  • This mod for the Amiga adds 1080p HDMI video output without sacrificing a Raspberry Pi permanently in the process. This mod should work for the A1000 through the early A3000s including the CDTV. *Extra bodge wires will be required for older systems.*

    Gotta love those crisp, perfect beautiful pixels.

      I certainly like it that way, but you can turn up the fuzz if you want to emulate the CRT look more closely.

    Good content! I have an A1000 to restore some day, but the 1084 got repurposed and gave up the ghost long before I ever thought I'd learn to repair such things (or even want to). I can see myself making use of this in the future.

    i remember there being a tool on original workbench settings to adjust (and save) overscan and position of the workbench to align it perfectly on screen.
    Thanx for the detailed video, still wanna do this mod myself for one of my A500's

    Nice. The direct captures look great. And yeah that MicroProse game is the PAL version. You can tell by the address on the label too. I have found that the US version of games tended more to use actual labels while the Euro games tended more to use direct printing on the disk. At least that is how it is with my games.

    Good stuff, Aaron. I don't own an Amiga, but am considering a serial terminal to HDMI output for another machine. The Pi Zero or other small SBC might be the way for me to go.

    good stuff. seems a bit fidly compared to other scandoublers I have tried, but a lot cheeper. Did you test how the latency is?

    • @RetroHackShack
      @RetroHackShack  Рік тому +1

      I did not test it, but typically it is about a quarter of a frame.

    Strangely i got one of my amiga500s out for a spin and used the rf modulator with my smart television and the picture was crystal clear...i was quite surprised as i was expecting issues.

    If you’d welcome a little completely unsolicited script advice, just prior to the finger-snap transition section (to an LCD monitor) in the intro, I reckon rather than saying “what if we could”, since it’s immediately answered by showing it, something like “how about we” or “so today let’s” would flow a little better to introduce the product.
    I used to make videos about old computers in like 2008 2009 so I just can’t turn that part of my brain off lol. Even though I was kinda rubbish at actual production quality (at least so was everyone else) and the audience was a lot smaller! Anyway! Feel free to ignore this lol

    Time stamp correction for the description: 13:20 for "Older Amigas". Also, since the beloved Raspberry Pis are being scalped, I'm left wondering if any alternatives will work 100% in place of them in the RGB to HDMI device.

    • @RetroHackShack
      @RetroHackShack  Рік тому +1

      Thanks for catching that fat finger. At present, other alternatives will not work since the firmware is specific to the CPU on the RPi.

    Just wondering if there will be a way to digitize the the audio and inject it into the HDMI Data stream like what is done on the AUSTEK EN9500GT or on an AMD/ATI RADEON Graphics card which can add the audio to the HDMI Data Stream.

    For me the fact that you would feel the need to have to inform people that you "like CRTs" means at least some people have... a little too much time on their hands, or not enough scruples.

    Very interesting. I'm wondering if there is a benefit to connecting directly to the Denise chip as opposed to just connecting to the 23 pin RGB out on the back of the machine. But I completely agree, with the availability of the Raspberry Pi, using the video slot is not ideal. I have a USB4VC which took forever to grab a Pi for it. And I have multiple computers it works with. I'm not buying a separate one for each of them!

    Maybe do an update report on how the screen position is with WHDLoad when you get a hard drive in the 2000.

    I like the snapping of the fingers... Wonder if that will work for me.
    Ideally, i reckon upscaling/zooming..
    You can' t add pixels that ain't there. Since the original signal would be
    Low-Res: 320x200 or High-Res 640x200 (NTSC) or
    Low-Res: 320x256 or 640x256 (PAL)
    Therefore, the it would be upscale to 16:9 which would look crap. 4:3 would be ok, but black bars. and defeats the purpose anyway of the use of 16:9..
    May as well stick with classic CRT.

    It looks amazing :) BUT.. the Audio is still separate which isn't particularly convenient. Its a shame there isn't a way of mixing the Audio in to the HDMI output.

    • @RetroHackShack
      @RetroHackShack  Рік тому

      Yeah. The only way right now is to buy a separate HDMI mixer which adds to the cost.

    My guess is that they hunted down a cracked copy and saved it over the original disk just so they wouldn't have to deal with looking up the copy protection stuff in the manual every time.
