    Hi SCG, I just want to say, that you guys are so awesome! I live in Sydney, Australia and follow all your videos! I had a basic espresso machine before (with pressurised portafilters! which I know thanks to you) I now own a Rancilio Silvia v4 + Rocky doserless since about a month. Initially, I wasn't getting the coffee like you guys on your videos. The shop where I bought it recommended a Barista Learning course.. Instead I did the "SCG UA-cam course" and 1 month later, here I am making the perfect shot with latte art to boot! Thanks a lot, guys and Happy Holidays!!

      +Seattle Coffee Gear Thanks... my humble learning experience... The 2 essential accessories for a Silvia are.. a good quality tamper (the one that comes with the machine sucks!!) and a good digital weighing scale ( i bought a good one in Aus for 16 bucks). Armed with these 2 and SCG's vlogs, you are on your way to mastering the perfect espresso coffee!!

    I am in the process of deciding what model to upgrade ( from 10 yr old sunbeam cafe) and have narrowed it down to a few models under $1,000. After seeing this video, if I was still single I would probably get this machine based on its quality components. However seeing how long it takes for the steam temp to drop to the extraction temperature, this in my opinion is such an unrealistic machine to be brewing on for multiple people if you want them to have a coffee at a similar time. I think my choice is going to be a breville 920, with the built in timer feature as I get up at 5am!! Thanks for your in depth reviews, from Wes. ( Melbourne Australia )

    On the 2020 model black one do I have to wait after the light goes off or is the heating element better on this ? I always seem to get caught waiting too long then the light goes on in middle of brewing.

  • @JonathanNelsonOfficial
    @JonathanNelsonOfficial 3 роки тому

    Don’t stretch before you brew. You’re losing the temp of your beverage and the whole idea of micro foam is consistency. That’s why latte art didn’t arrive in her pour. A shot can live for up to a minute. So pull that shot then quickly stretch and immediately pour. Your drink will be better.

    Hi from Aus. I bought my Silvia in 2010 and the steamer has never been that great. Takes ages to build up pressure and with a full jug it rapidly loses pressure before milk has been streamed. It can do half a 1L jug just.

    • @SeattleCoffeeGear
      @SeattleCoffeeGear  9 років тому

      +TheForge10 Even 500ml of milk is a lot to steam on a single boiler machine. Ideally you will want to steam about 200ml for the best results. How is your machine otherwise?

    • @TheForge10
      @TheForge10 9 років тому

      +Seattle Coffee Gear Its been a great machine . Yes I do get good results with less than 500ml for steaming but i sometimes make multiple lattes for friends and family so i sometimes try and do more milk to save time.Ill go for 200ml from now on. Other than that its never missed a beat.Makes a great cup.

    Why don't you pull the shot, then froth the milk? Surely that makes things easier and you don't need to wait for the machine to cool down?

    • @nelldores
      @nelldores 9 років тому

      +Greg 'Meltdown' Quinn I think it's a matter of taste. For me, it tastes better if you pour the milk into the espresso, when it's just brewed, rather than making it first and letting it get cold.. For better latte art, I think you can do the espresso shot first and milk later...

    • @SeattleCoffeeGear
      @SeattleCoffeeGear  7 років тому +2

      Hi John, the shot isn't as stable as the milk (due to temp loss and oxidation), so we like to do it in this order so the shot isn't sitting around losing flavor. Thanks for watching!

    • @LoveUniqueStudios
      @LoveUniqueStudios 7 років тому

      Seattle Coffee Gear I also thought you do the shot last to prevent burning out the boiler. Is this have any truth to it and if so why?

    • @alylyshua74937
      @alylyshua74937 5 років тому

      Love Unique Studios | This is kind of a late reply, but yes, it has to do with not burning out the boiler. Because this machine doesn't have what we call an E61 brew group that constantly circulates water into the boiler to keep it full, this boiler is at risk of running dry, which is bad for it.
      Thing is, when you steam milk, the pump doesn't work, so the boiler empties ever so slightly. By dispensing hot water, Gail refills the boiler with water again, preventing the heating element in the boiler to run without water touching it.
      If you steam your milk last, it lets the heating element) cool down with some parts of it not touching water.
      Hope this helped !

    I just bought this machine(to be gifted) expecting it to be at least as good as my Saeco Aroma. So far so bad, a bitter brew seems to be all it can do. Thinking it must be me, I tried less coffee, more coffee, tamp hard, light or not at all, run less water through it, then fill cup with water from the wand... lousy bitter coffee is all I get.

    How long does it take to go from brew temp to steam temp?

    • @ascosta
      @ascosta 9 років тому +2

      Jonatan Beauchamp, it takes about 2 minutes after brewing for me. The timing is just enough for me to clean the screen and wash my portafilter and basket while I wait it to get up to steam temp, so very convenient. In my opinion, this is better than steaming first like Gail is doing. After steaming, it gets a little messy to run water because you get a few seconds of very turbulent steam+water from the wand. Also, you can overcool it too much, then you need to wait a little more to get it back up to brew temp. If you don't have the PID version, you also risk inconsistent brew temps across shots.
