My family (my mother, stepfather, and my four brothers) all moved to Okinawa Japan for two years (1973-1975) before my stepfather retired from the Air Force' , we only had one American TV station (for American military personnel and families) so sometimes we would watch the Japanese stations , we never learned full Japanese but it was fun to watch, this brings back memories..
Japanese commercials are totally out of this world. Way cool.
Maybe I’m wrong but Japan must be a frigging awesome place to be a kid.
Even with an ocean separating me from this, I can still feel and hear that vintage nostalgia vibing through each commercial. This were just different then (and that was a great thing)
Y'all thought American ads in the 90's were weird...
There really wasn't anything like '80s and '90s technology. I miss vhs, going to movie store and picking up a couple of movies and grabbing a box of pizza from Little Caesars. That was my weekend. I was very fortunate to grow up in the '90s. I miss those days.
Saturday morning and after school cartoon shows, going from wired to wireless TV remote controls... those were the days! I was also very fortunate to grow up in the 80's and 90's, it was a good time to be a kid and a teen. The last of the old generation that remembers the time before the internet.
Excellent touch beginning it with the "this message is brought to you by the following sponsors" message I remember from various anime opening songs 🤣
Also I could use that Sailor Moon game to teach me hiragana lol

wow! didn't expect to see a Japanese set show up here (although i probably should've given the random Twinbee for Gameboy ad that apparently snuck into one of the previous volumes) definitely subbed over there its always neat to see the way Japan does advertising!

Some of the first few commercials had some bops in them...but Japanese love dressing up so risque! This was a ride haha. What was up with CORN TEA?!
1:56 Sailor Moon Commercial for Playdia
Even Sailor Moon, and Dragon Ball Z could not save the Playdia, so by the end of the systems life they made a few adult games for it to try, and sell the remaining stock.

43 seconds in and I’m like omg Chaka Khan-I know that song!-I had the CD!!!! (Another I gotta ‘appropriate’ from YT since I decluttered my CD collection then Apple went ham on my music files😡...just cuz 1 or 2 had limewire extensions🤷🏼♀️😂-i bought the tape, cd or vinyl at one point-limewire was just helping me make a digital version...😄😂)

I saw one years ago, probably early in UA-cam's life, which was for bug spray. It showed the bug returning to its nest, pooping, and the whole bug family feasting on the poisoned poop. All within 3-4 seconds probably. I sure wish that I could find that one.

IMO, the highlight of this compilation is the commercial for Sonic the Hedgehog 3 Happy Meal toys at 2:13. I just have two questions about it, though. Why does the Game Boy startup sound effect play during gameplay and why doesn’t Tails have a toy like in the North American and European versions?

Say, have you seen some anime commercials from Japan that advertises a certain product, restaurant, food/drink any other business and not an advert for an anime film or TV show? Most likely around the 1980’s, 1990’s to the present day is my likely guess.

There was definitely a lot of computer and weird processor school commercials. I'm guessing Japan had a high demand for OL with new skills right around that time.
Speaking of OL, I'll be tuning in next week for that midnight cinema OL Dragon flick, I can't even read half of what it says but seems quite interesting.

Can someone explain the commercial where the girls call the guy in the phonebooth? Is this some kind of well wishes or positive words hotline? Like someone you would call (for a maximum of 3 mins) to hear someone say something nice to you? Just curious, cause that may be the only commercial where I really didn't understand what they were advertising.
