I enjoy the refreshing retro look to Otter Messer. I have several and the fit and finish is quite good…and how long have traditional like that been around? Tried and tested, right?
Thanks for the great review. I own the knife and love it. The 3 rivets where a bit shiney when new, but a little pocket time fixed that. Mine is smoked oak also and blade center was perfect for what thats worth. Love the scalloped bolster. Very comfortable in pocket. It is also pinch open, the nail nick is just traction. It is a bargin.
The action on mine is just like yours but it's getting better. I had to file the kick as the tip was proud. I do like the look, size and feel of the knife so I can live the little imperfections.
Case knives doesn't come anywhere near the quality of otter, and my EDC is a CV case trapper lol but I also carry an otter carbon steel pen knife along side it, and when going out in the woods I add a Lars falt slip joint to the mix as well lol as much as it bugs me case quality control is just half assed-non existent. My one trapper came with a fully rolled edge (on both blades), what appeared to be 80 grit sandpaper scratches all at the bottom of the bolster and backsprings, had gaps between liners and both blades not center.. never seen a single otter knife with even half that many issues lol. Shit, rough riders aren't even thrown together that poorly and they cost less than a quarter of the price. I literally took the knife apart and rebuilt it correctly with new bone scales, one new backspring (because one was so poorly ground I refused to put it back in) and no shield inlay on the new scales (because the shield of course fell out almost immediately), I only did all that because it would cost me more than the value of the knife to send it back to case USA from the UK. I love the knife but case as a company/who they employ IMO are a joke even sending that out the door with their name on it. There's no excuse for that as far as I'm concerned. Other manufacturers manage to stop defective products reaching the consumer quite effectively so this can only mean case simply doesn't give a shit about its customers/reputation because it's already well established and blindly followed by thousands.
The bolsters and liners should be plain carbon steel as they're are on mine (i have the African black wood and brass rivet/pin version) which you can't get as they're only available in Europe.
Although I prefer small fixed blades I like this one and often was close to getting one of these. Especially as I just do not like the opinels 😂🙋🏻♀️Anna
Bravo! Excellent grunt knife, I too got my carbon steel, smoked oak version from Atlantic & love it.
well worth the cost.
This is a classic German men's knife. Handmade since 1840

That is a beautiful knife!! It is simplicity at its finest!
Ive got one of those and the weaver knife on the wish list, otter makes an awesome knife for the price

I have almost purchased this knife a few times.
Sweet piece, personally I've been looking at getting Otter's Bee keeper knife that seems pretty cool
it has double the price while only difference is brass construction. dont think that its worth it

It really is about the perfect size.
That is a great knife. Like you I think that it would be better if there were 3 rivets on the other side as well - I like symmetry.
Then they would have to change the name to 6 rivet knife.
Great piece I love mine!!!! Put oil on the wood covers
Pretty sure Case quality varies much more than Otter Messer.

I believe you're right. My bolsters have definitely darkened.

Well i like opinels too, but this knife is great.
3 weeks ago, so
Ain't you digging it?
I have, and would recommend, their version of the sodbuster in spalted oak
Yeah, I carried it for more than a week straight.
The rivets on this model are aluminum.
But it's actually 6 rivets🤔
They're pins that hold the knife together.
