OH LORD I MISS THAT PHIL COLLINS CD RELEASE DAYS ! Why do we all get old? Damn it all to HELL, I miss PHIL COLLINS's VOICE ! It's now 2012 and all I get are the some odd 150 songs I play over and over again. PS - Phil, your song Illegal Alien, is the worst one ever. I've never been able to hear the entire song. Regardless you are the soundtrack to my life and I LOVE YOU SO MUCH for bringing this music to me ! Thank you SIR COLLINS !
the ENTIRE 1980's was PHIL COLLINS ! and TODAY his music stand TRUE< HONEST and GENUINE. PHIL never caved to the pressure to sound like everyone else in that era. I used to wait and countdown the days until a new release of music would hit stores. I was always there on day one. I would take my LP, then CD home and listen to the first 20 seconds of each song..then I would go back and play my favorites, usualy 3-4 songs. All those songs hit the top of the charts later on. I LOVE YOU PHIL !
THIS IS A BRILLIANT TUNE FROM GENESIS !!!!... - WAS 16 YEARS OLD WHEN THIS WAS PERFORMED BY THE LADS OF GENESIS 😁😁😁!!!!... & WHEN I WAS 23, I MET MY LATE PARTNER WHOM I WAS WITH FOR 19 YEARS 😍😍😍💓💓💓💖💖💖!!!!... & HE HADN'T HEARD OF GENESIS !!!!... AND HE LOVED THIS TUNE, & WE LIVED IN A BEAUTIFUL SPLIT LEVEL THREE BEDROOM FLAT BY THE SEA IN DORSET 😁😁😁!!!!... & HE ASKED FOR BOTH PARTS OF THIS TUNE, TO BE PLAYED AT HIS FUNERAL !!!!... SO I'LL ALWAYS HAVE A NICE MEMORY BECAUSE OF BOTH PARTS OF THIS TUNE 😁😁😁!!!!...
Let me tell you about the time, The time I spent by the sea, All over tingling, and excited, Emotion rendezvous all over me, I can remember, I recall it all, I can feel the warmth, on my skin in the fall, The harmony and life, I just held in my hands, The love I could feel, with my fingers through the sands Ian Ashford 2013
That wall of sound they create in _Second Home By The Sea_ is so powerful. Back in the day, I saw my fair share of Genesis concerts and you can feel their music in the pit of your stomach. The whole arena shakes when Mike Rutherford steps on his bass pedals. It was an awesome experience to behold.
THE REAPER MAN - Hey Reaper Man my name is William Jacobs and you are so right because I've been and seen Genesis twice and they rocked the hole call a Cena. The first time I went I was 13 years old then I went and saw them again when I was 16 and that one was alot better because my parents wasn't with me that time. I really had a great time and I got fucked up. I wish they were still Turing so I can take my son and give him a good time.
Mubble, I can relate to your Genesis experience. I had that when I heard their 1st album. And being a musician I had to play every cool Genesis song that came along, including home by the sea. However club owners didn't like it. Best insult we ever got from a Dallas club owner after playing "Watcher" and "Firth of Fifth" was, "I hired you guys to entertain my patrons, not educate them!" Best damn insult we ever got.
People will still be listening to music like this as well as tunes from the 60s, 70s, 80's well into the distant future. Most current music will fade away, sans a very few talented artists, never to be heard from again.
Fantastic, these guys were so talented! It's such a shame that age finally caught up with Phil, Mike and Tony, they were the BEST Prog-rock band of all time, period!
I am very glad I did not know the four people totally tasteless musical clicked on the little hand down. This band is and always will be one of the best of all time!!
The instrumental on this performance is mind-blowing. It's like Tangerine Dream on steroids. I only wanted to check out some youtube before bedtime, and now I'm kicking myself for never having seen Genesis live back in the day.
èn nsgyon szeretem a genesist, mert a zene amit alkotnak, az tökèletesen visszatükrözi azt a belső èrzèsvilágot, ami jellemez engem!!!! zseniálisan jò zene!!!!!!!!@
I feel bless to have grown up with true rocken roll and when rock was at its finest hour with real and true artist with real talent and skill. This song will all by my favorite, and was the first rock song i heard at 2 yrs old rocking out with a broom. Wish there where more monder day real talent true artist out there.
Let me tell you about the time, The time I spent by the sea, All over tingling, and excited, Emotion rendezvous all over me, I can remember, I recall it all, I can feel the warmth, on my skin in the fall, The harmony and life, I just held in my hands, The love I could feel, with my fingers through the sands
This is a great song and I could listen to this the rest of my life. Just one of those songs that you listen too after work while drinking a few beers and waiting on dinner to finish. Then it's time to take a shower and go to bed so you can do it again tomorrow. This is life for me.
Someone had the nerve to comment that the first drummer was a "runaway train" until Phil took over & slowed down the tempo. If anyone knows anything about this combo of tunes "Home By The Sea", was a faster paced song and "Second Home" was a slower driving beat, just as they played it here. And by the way, that "first drummer" is none other than the BRILLIANT Chester Thompson, and he is a drummer who knows exactly what he's doing, as Phil would be the very first to tell you!!
Yes 💯 Mr. Chester is an Awwwwseme Drummer for Earth Wind Fire & Phil Tours with their Horn Section, "Tower of Power" & of course Phil Bailey, also from EW&F, 1985'S Best Tune in Easy Lover 🎶🎵🩵💙🙌👏👏👏😁
I used Mike's guitar riff (at 8:56) as an answering machine opening for a year. (Yes I am that old) Love the back half - tell me how many songs hit that zone....for 1:30. Not many - and we the grew up with real music know those songs.
A brilliant musician who delivered some of the greatest songs and gave everything in performances. Didn't tolerate anything second rate. Thank you Phil.
My first concert was in 1984 I seen the Eagles my second concert was the same year and that's when I seen Genesis. I seen several more concerts in my life and everyone was so good. I truly had a blast growing up and seeing something like that is something you never forget.
This is true rockin roll at its finest. I truly love growing up with type of music of real and true artist. And will always be my favorite song and my firsy rock song i heard at two years old rocking out with a broom lol
Lads, 30 years after, you're just amazing ! I'm crying listening to your late albums. Well, I'm not that old, 48, but as a frenchie, I really feel something has f...... changed in this country, not in a nice way. Lands of confusion, you were so right... Semper !
Fabulous performance.....such great talent on one stage! Brilliant bass line by Daryl. An awesome song played to perfection. A great band, sadly missed.
This was my first concert, I can't remember the year. My big brother took me, I thought I was king shit. This is the one I'll never forget. I'm a drummer too. So Phil was a god to me at that time. He has great skills on the skins.
Let me tell you about the time, The time I spent by the sea, All over tingling, and excited, Emotion rendezvous all over me, I can remember, I recall it all, I can feel the warmth, on my skin in the fall, The harmony and life, I just held in my hands, The love I could feel, with my fingers through the sands........
My boy Phil is utterly above and beyond epic, and he once again shamelessly demonstrates it, this time during one the "Genesis' finest." Yes indeed, it was no surprise that the boys had been dominated that year for Grammy award for "The Best Instrumental Performance by Band." They did not win only because the committee members' purely personal opinion. Genesis, in MY PERSONAL OPINION, is the most well-rounded music band of all time. Its instrumental chemistry, which includes crystal clear clarity to the point, where the audience is able to recognize virtually each and every nuance of the members' instruments, the unique sounds, melodies and tones, and with undoubtedly many moments of pure improvisation, particularly on the part of Phil, who has been famous for having played during his career by ear and his feeling for the music at the particular moment and not by following music notes, such "musical tightness" has never been matched, has been unparalleled and is without a question pinnacle of instrumental genius. When one adds to all of the above description the visually spectacular, flawlessly coordinated and executed laser and lighting effects, invented and pioneered by Genesis, then one is able to become a witness to a pure masterpiece. "Phily" makes his sublime drumming look so easy, that I always tend to wait for the moment where he pulls out a cigar and starts smoking it, all while playing drums with one hand. That is how "ridiculous" his performance appears.
I've been rockin' out to this since I bought the concert video waaay back in the late 80's. Used to drive my apartment neighbors crazy cuz I cranked it up so high. Haha. And I still get just as excited listening to it today as I did back in my late teens. Anyway, this is an epic performance & my fav live version of this classic song.
good point; the production combined by the sheer virtuosity of the band always gave the possibility that better; and even more tighter versions of their songs would be performed live.
Went to see Phil Collins play in Auckland in the 80's, he's as good live. Wish they'd tour again. Sound system in the 80s venue was terrible, now we have Vector arena.
during the eighties, I was not sure of music, I liked it and it was compelling, but it wasn't until after, that I realized I had lived during a very special musical period!
+flinx &pip Ive lived through the 60's(Beatle Mania),70's(punk,Jam),80's as here. Each generation has good and dire bands, but this music endures and grows, and this particular work is astonishingly good every time you play the track.Love Heat of the Night too, unparelled imagery
💜 Creeping up the blind side, shinning up the wall stealing thru the dark of night Climbing thru a window, stepping to the floor checking to the left and the right Picking up the pieces, putting them away something doesn't feel quite right Help me someone, let me out of here then out of the dark was suddenly heard welcome to the Home by the Sea Coming out the woodwork, thru the open door pushing from above and below shadows but no substance, in the shape of men round and down and sideways they go adrift without direction, eyes that hold despair then as one they sign and they moan Help us someone, let us out of here living here so long undisturbed dreaming of the time we were free so many years ago before the time when we first heard welcome to the Home by the Sea Sit down Sit down as we relive our lives in what we tell you Images of sorrow, pictures of delight things that go to make up a life endless days of summer longer nights of gloom waiting for the morning light scenes of unimportance, photos in a frame things that go to make up a life Help us someone, let us out of here cos living here so long undisturbed dreaming of the time we were free so many years ago before the time when we first heard welcome to the Home by the Sea Sit down Sit down as we relive out lives in what we tell you let us relive out lives in what we tell you Sit down Sit down cos you won't get away no with us you will stay for the rest of your days - Sit down As we relive our lives in what we tell you Let us relive our lives in what we tell you
To think phil never wanted to sing, that he refused it, for all he wamted was to just play his drums he loved so much, that he made many drums solos lol. Until one day he had no choice to sing to save the band. And he sang this song to be legend. Still refused to give up the drums. Lol that a true artist.
Aye Sarita I was fortunate enough to see them in concert about 10 years ago and I can tell you Phil Collins is one of the best drummers I’ve ever seen. His work is amazing.
I like how everyone dogs 80's Genesis saying it was adult contemporary and lacked in content; yet they had masterful pieces like this. I don't think Genesis was trying to be more accessible but that is how they evolved. They didn't really want to go on being an obscure prog rock band. These guys show off their massive talent here.
I honestly don't think they were trying to be anything but Genesis and they wrote what they wrote. I believe it was Mike R. who said "we always TRIED to write pop songs, but weren't any good at it." They just got better at it as they got older, at being able to say more in a four-minute song than a seven-minute song. I'll argue with anyone who says Genesis ever "lacked content".
Creeping up the blind side, shinning up the wall stealing thru the dark of night Climbing thru a window, stepping to the floor checking to the left and the right Picking up the pieces, putting them away something doesn't feel quite right Help me someone, let me out of here then out of the dark was suddenly heard welcome to the Home by the Sea Coming out the woodwork, thru the open door pushing from above and below shadows but no substance, in the shape of men round and down and sideways they go adrift without direction, eyes that hold despair then as one they sign and they moan Help us someone, let us out of here living here so long undisturbed dreaming of the time we were free so many years ago before the time when we first heard welcome to the Home by the Sea Sit down Sit down as we relive our lives in what we tell you Images of sorrow, pictures of delight things that go to make up a life endless days of summer longer nights of gloom waiting for the morning light scenes of unimportance, photos in a frame things that go to make up a life Help us someone, let us out of here cos living here so long undisturbed dreaming of the time we were free so many years ago before the time when we first heard welcome to the Home by the Sea Sit down Sit down as we relive out lives in what we tell you let us relive out lives in what we tell you Sit down Sit down cos you won't get away no with us you will stay for the rest of your days - Sit down As we relive our lives in what we tell you Let us relive our lives in what we tell you
When they came to my area on this tour, I didn't get to go see them. But an acquaintance did. He was one of those guys who regularly went to whatever rock concert came to town. Anyway, when he came back he was raving about the Genesis concert. Especially the lights. He kept saying, in awe. that he'd never seen lights anything like that, and that he had no idea that Genesis could jam as hard as they did. So no, the Collins era Genesis was not a pop sell out failure, or whatever it is that people say. I suspect their concerts won over a whole lot of people who had no idea that Genesis were as good as they were. The 1980's era Genesis did it's job and did it well.
You know that this song is based on a true story about a man who breaks in a house but come to find out, it was a small prison and everyone there died and there souls are wondering all through the house and will not let the man leave until they tell him there storys of what they done and how they were killed. There they were killed by different ways and most of them were there to die anyway. This is true so those who don't believe me look it up and read it yourself.
The "pop" songs and Gabriel era songs are two parts of the group's history. You have T of the Tail and Wind and Wuthering too. Everybody has their preference. I liked this song, both parts. I like it all,. Right now I'm enjoying Hackett's revisited DVD. These guys don't play around. I guess they do have that respect for the material and each other.
yes for sure the best band i ever seen and ever listened ...but for me the best line up ever is .GABRIEL HACKETT COLLINS RUTHERFORD BANK...hackett gabriel was really 2 genious

GENESIS= a powerful band with gifted and sensitive musicians. No more, no less.

Adoro essa banda Gênesis ..Eles têm umas músicas muito legais !!
This song has been with me since it came out and I still love it to this day. I used to play it so loud I got noise complaints
Excellent song and album. I am glad I lived the 80's, Genesis shared so many emotions and talent. Thank you guys !
I am very glad I did not know the four people totally tasteless musical clicked on the little hand down. This band is and always will be one of the best of all time!!
Mr Phill Collins and his incredible voice.
The instrumental on this performance is mind-blowing. It's like Tangerine Dream on steroids. I only wanted to check out some youtube before bedtime, and now I'm kicking myself for never having seen Genesis live back in the day.
had the privilege of meeting Phil, great song after all these years
I wish I could have met him.💜💜💜💜💜🙏
MARAVILHOSA - UMA DAS MUSICAS MAIS LINDAS DESTE FENOMENAL GRUPO, SAUDADES, MUITAS SAUDADES...VALEU PHIL!
Usually I don't like those E-Drums, but in this song they somehow fit in well.
My, what a voice.

This is one of the most incredible things I have ever heard! D:
I've always loved Pink Floyd, but no words can describe the amazing talent and style that only Genesis has!
I feel bless to have grown up with true rocken roll and when rock was at its finest hour with real and true artist with real talent and skill. This song will all by my favorite, and was the first rock song i heard at 2 yrs old rocking out with a broom. Wish there where more monder day real talent true artist out there.

This is a great song and I could listen to this the rest of my life. Just one of those songs that you listen too after work while drinking a few beers and waiting on dinner to finish. Then it's time to take a shower and go to bed so you can do it again tomorrow. This is life for me.

Uma das melhores bandas de Rock pop que o mundo ja viu.....show Genesis vocal Phill collins.....
A brilliant musician who delivered some of the greatest songs and gave everything in performances. Didn't tolerate anything second rate. Thank you Phil.
Una de las mejores bandas de todos los tiempos ejecutando una de las mejores canciones de todos los tiempos.
lindisima música 👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏sei palavras
My first concert was in 1984 I seen the Eagles my second concert was the same year and that's when I seen Genesis. I seen several more concerts in my life and everyone was so good. I truly had a blast growing up and seeing something like that is something you never forget.
One of my favorite songs of all time! The song is cinematic, you can create a movie around it no doubt.
Excellent comment
Great band. Phil Collins fantastic drummer and fantastic voice...
Semper !
simply masterful, where have I been, I have so much appreciation for their music now
I'm still jamming out with Genesis in 2018. Rock on and hope everyone has a great year ahead.
I discovered Genesis while serving in Japan in 77-80. I liked them right away. The music helped me get through some tough times.
Fabulous performance.....such great talent on one stage! Brilliant bass line by Daryl. An awesome song played to perfection. A great band, sadly missed.
This is so good it gives me chills! Turbo kicked in at 8:55.
This was my first concert, I can't remember the year. My big brother took me, I thought I was king shit. This is the one I'll never forget. I'm a drummer too. So Phil was a god to me at that time. He has great skills on the skins.
Frank Drummond It was 1983 or 1984. I also went ot this concert.
sysco727 This was actually filmed in 1987. It's from the Invisible Touch tour.

Oh what a lovely show. What a show ! Where are we gonna get such lively groups to
bring back that "Joy" we used to have ? I love that.
I've been rockin' out to this since I bought the concert video waaay back in the late 80's. Used to drive my apartment neighbors crazy cuz I cranked it up so high. Haha. Haunting and absolutely brilliant!
Times change. Now Genesis is no more. Just Ray Willson keeping their songs alive. And I'm really grateful he does.
im addicted to this song
This song is just brilliance personified, better live than the album version also, a rare quality for a band. Phil Collins is an absolute hero.
good point; the production combined by the sheer virtuosity of the band always gave the possibility that better; and even more tighter versions of their songs would be performed live.
Agreed, I prefer the live version to the album track. Same with Abacab, the half-time feel just cooks, & the whole band gives a virtuoso performance!
BitterBosh Duchess is much better on the album though , as they left out all the background synthpads (it isn't really possible to play it live...)
roflBruderLp I agree. They did a nice version for, I think, Three Sides Live, but yeah, it lacks all the elements that it had on the album.
one of genesis best song ,funny how great songs and great bands age slowly.
Went to see Phil Collins play in Auckland in the 80's, he's as good live. Wish they'd tour again. Sound system in the 80s venue was terrible, now we have Vector arena.
Una obra de arte musical! han pasado los años y me sigue conmoviendo este tema! Genial!
Oh Phil, your soooo loved!
Me hace volar este tema ........felicitaciones Phill Collins !! winner
Anda Urrutia re hace volar jajaja
Dani nos vemos en un rato

Predivna i magicna muzika nekadasnjih majstora.
I used to listen to it over and over and imagine the smell of the salty water
This is his best one.
Soooo EPIC!! I wish i was there, and puffin a fat joint!

Oh hell yeah! Phil is rocking that Gallagher mullet! Doesn't get anymore 80s than that.
💜
Creeping up the blind side, shinning up the wall
stealing thru the dark of night
Climbing thru a window, stepping to the floor
checking to the left and the right
Picking up the pieces, putting them away
something doesn't feel quite right
Help me someone, let me out of here
then out of the dark was suddenly heard
welcome to the Home by the Sea
Coming out the woodwork, thru the open door
pushing from above and below
shadows but no substance, in the shape of men
round and down and sideways they go
adrift without direction, eyes that hold despair
then as one they sign and they moan
Help us someone, let us out of here
living here so long undisturbed
dreaming of the time we were free
so many years ago
before the time when we first heard
welcome to the Home by the Sea
Sit down Sit down
as we relive our lives in what we tell you
Images of sorrow, pictures of delight
things that go to make up a life
endless days of summer longer nights of gloom
waiting for the morning light
scenes of unimportance, photos in a frame
things that go to make up a life
Help us someone, let us out of here
cos living here so long undisturbed
dreaming of the time we were free
so many years ago
before the time when we first heard
welcome to the Home by the Sea
Sit down Sit down
as we relive out lives in what we tell you
let us relive out lives in what we tell you
Sit down Sit down
cos you won't get away
no with us you will stay
for the rest of your days - Sit down
As we relive our lives in what we tell you
Let us relive our lives in what we tell you
Still love this band...
This is one example of fine music. I love the aura of mystic that generated from the song.
Thanks, Mas Kunto, for uploading the video.
Un genio de una época! Gracias por tanto!!!!
I'll argue with anyone who says Genesis ever "lacked content".
me too bro...Genesis did have MASSIVE talent as Vista 7 said...i like the wording
Amazing live version of HBS! Phil's vocals bang on. Instrumental section powerful and accurate. Brilliant!
Always liked the full version of "Second Home" they did live with the longer guitar solo.
Phil...Awsome ❤❤❤❤
EXCELENTE!!!!!
ingat wkt kecil jaman sd pertama kli mengenal musik fans berat genesis
8:07 that bass run, woweeeeee
Creeping up the blind side, shinning up the wall
stealing thru the dark of night
Climbing thru a window, stepping to the floor
checking to the left and the right
Picking up the pieces, putting them away
something doesn't feel quite right
Help me someone, let me out of here
then out of the dark was suddenly heard
welcome to the Home by the Sea
Coming out the woodwork, thru the open door
pushing from above and below
shadows but no substance, in the shape of men
round and down and sideways they go
adrift without direction, eyes that hold despair
then as one they sign and they moan
Help us someone, let us out of here
living here so long undisturbed
dreaming of the time we were free
so many years ago
before the time when we first heard
welcome to the Home by the Sea
Sit down Sit down
as we relive our lives in what we tell you
Images of sorrow, pictures of delight
things that go to make up a life
endless days of summer longer nights of gloom
waiting for the morning light
scenes of unimportance, photos in a frame
things that go to make up a life
Help us someone, let us out of here
cos living here so long undisturbed
dreaming of the time we were free
so many years ago
before the time when we first heard
welcome to the Home by the Sea
Sit down Sit down
as we relive out lives in what we tell you
let us relive out lives in what we tell you
Sit down Sit down
cos you won't get away
no with us you will stay
for the rest of your days - Sit down
As we relive our lives in what we tell you
Let us relive our lives in what we tell you
Hoje em dia não surgem mais bandas como estaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa.
QUE GRAN BANDA GENESIS !!! AMOR ETERNO.
Second half is funky all day
You know that this song is based on a true story about a man who breaks in a house but come to find out, it was a small prison and everyone there died and there souls are wondering all through the house and will not let the man leave until they tell him there storys of what they done and how they were killed. There they were killed by different ways and most of them were there to die anyway. This is true so those who don't believe me look it up and read it yourself.
just cool!!!
Impresiona, y en vivo, la coordinación entre los músicos, parece un solo instrumento.
+1
