I think it is always good to learn from people living in different cultures while recognizing and embracing our common humanity.
One of the things that so engaging about AJ is her calm acknowledgement and execution of her own enormous talent while remaining humble and compassionate at the same time. As I've been told, this is very Norwegian: persue your dreams but don't go brag about it. Many in the world could learn from this. Don't seek adulation, but give it freely to others. ❤

For many of us in the UK, Norway is role model... I have been a couple of times, once to Svalbard which really is near the North Pole (closer than where Angelina had that concert actualy :) ), and the other to Trondheim (someone I know there is American but his Norwegian wife is from the island where that concert took place ). I love the country. It is our northeasterly neighbour and we have a border in the North Sea between which were divided the places for oil rigs... Norway was so sensible in the way they handled the revenue from North Sea oil for the long-term good of the country... quite a contrast to the way UK squandered its revenue... There are many other things to admire - just one being their prison system which is a model for all the world I think: ua-cam.com/video/zNpehw-Yjvs/v-deo.html

In the Nordic countries (Norway, Sweden, Finland, Island, Denmark) people are a little bit more reserved in my opinion compared with many other countries. There are also some differences between different Nordic countries. I am from Finland myself so to me this is very natural but maybe from the American perspective it may seem a little bit strange..

    • @stevecallaway1

Thanks Hannu , I don't think of reserved as strange . I rather respect it mostly. Seems to be a more thoughtful and deliberate way to conduct oneself. More honest so it seems. The way it manifests itself in interviews is interesting the way questions are asked and answers given. More sincere and direct, in my opinion. I Like that myself. It's different here in the US , I'm not sure I can articulate it but it's almost as if you can find it difficult to trust an Interviewer . They seem to have ulterior motives sometimes asking leading questions , things like that . If everyone everywhere were more honest with themselves and others we would become more respectful of each other and improve ourselves too. Thanks Hannu Love and Kindness My Friend

When you are rambling, I will share some if my thoughts too😊
Norway is NOT a socialist country, but foremost a democratic country.
After the war the country has been lead by a social democratic government for 30 years, but after that there has been a mix of the left and the right.
All people have a saying, there is a wide political landscape (parliamentarism), so the political decisions are not made by 2 right wing elite parties, but by most interests in the country (the business owners, the workers, the farmers, the Christian, the socialists etc). Laws, rules and regulations are mostly made for the benefit of all the people, not by the benefit of the few rich people that has got the means to pay for lobbying.
In this way we have been able to use the extreme income from the oil to make the country a better place for most of the 5 million inhabitants of Norway. Free Healthcare, free education (all the way to university degrees), and help for development in culture and sport. One if the most important things is what we call the "cultural school". All municipality are obligated to provide a descent after school education in music, theater for a cheap payment (about 200 usd a year). This has created a lot of talent in Norway. Angelina is not a direct product of this as much as Aurora, Sigrid, Astrid D, becsuseshe wax so young, but she has benefitted from this. Same thing with the (extreme) sport results the last year. Some of the best soccer players in the world, track runners, golf players and tennis players. (I don't mention winter sports because that is mostly Norwegian anyway).
So Angelina is not a product of the political system, but she has been able to develop her talent without big economic frustrations.

Thats very interesting Geir . In the US The government is supposed to work for the people and the well being of all but instead corruption rules the system and unelected persons in high powered positions . It's a Mess. Not what our founders envisioned. Norways' System seems to be a better way to function for the benefit of all the people. Because your system provides a certain amount of financial security that would explain why your people seem more relaxed and at ease generally speaking , I view Norwegian people to have a high level of integrity too. Just my personal observations . These are all great qualities as far as I'm concerned. I Like and enjoy our free enterprise system but greed and hunger for power ruin even the best intentions. The politics of Norway take place in the framework of a parliamentary, representative democratic constitutional monarchy. The term "socialism" refers to the economic system, not the form of government. In economics. In economics Norway seems to be what is often referred to as Social Democracy, which means there is private enterprise, but with much more governmental control than in the US. It is also semi-socialist. Wikipedia states "Norway maintains the Nordic welfare model with universal health care and a comprehensive social security system, and its values are rooted in egalitarian ideals.[20] The Norwegian state has large ownership positions in key industrial sectors, having extensive reserves of petroleum, natural gas, minerals, lumber, seafood, and fresh water."

Angelinas Birthday is January 10th , 2006 I believe . So Angelina would have been 13 during the competition and may have been just turned 14 When the show aired. Confusing Right . This topic has been covered by others, but here is my opinion having lived in Norway.
Norway is not a socialist country in the traditional sense. It is a social democracy, which combines elements of both capitalism and socialism. Norway has a mixed economy with a strong welfare state and a high degree of social and economic equality.
Norway's economic system is characterized by a market-based economy, private ownership of businesses, and a well-functioning welfare state. The country has a strong emphasis on social welfare, including universal healthcare, generous social benefits, and a comprehensive social safety net.
The means of production in Norway are primarily owned and controlled by private individuals and corporations. The government intervenes in the economy through regulations, taxation, and public ownership of certain industries, but the overall economic system is based on free market principles.
It's important to note that the term "socialism" can have different meanings depending on the context. In some countries, socialism refers to a system where the government controls the means of production and distribution of goods and services. In this sense, Norway does not fit the definition of a socialist country. However, if socialism is understood as a system that emphasizes social welfare, equality, and a strong welfare state, then Norway can be considered socialist to some extent.

Interesting reaction. But the reason why several artists were mentioned in this news segment has nothing to do with socialism. Norway is a capitalist country, but in the Nordics, we have something called a mixed economy. The state, meaning the people, owns some larger institutions like the oil industry, telephone networks, power grids, etc., mostly related to infrastructure. The background for this is that these started as projects that only the public sector had enough funds to initiate at the time. Today, however, large portions of these companies are owned by private entities. But this is not primarily where the mixed economy comes in. Because everything else is owned and operated by private individuals. There are also private schools and health companies, but the largest player there is also the public sector. In other words, we the people invest in the form of taxes and fees, and in return, we have the right to use these institutions almost entirely for free. The value creation in this focuses solely on better health, quality of life, culture, sports, and spreading knowledge to the people. Not just for ourselves, but also for the generations that follow us.
So back to the end of the segment where several artists were mentioned. It's far from common for other artists to be mentioned when individual artists do well. But at this particular time, several Norwegian artists were making it big. Is it so strange that, for example, Aurora's participation in the Oscar ceremony was mentioned? We are a nation of less than 6 million people, and it's not so normal for Norwegians to be nominated or participate in such international venues, even though it has happened a few times before. They were mentioned because the topic was brought up, and because the artists are doing phenomenally well, especially at this point in time. It has nothing to do with any forced or expected inclusion. Admittedly, this channel is state-owned and has its statutes to follow. Some of these are that they should function as a politically independent channel, operate completely independently from government officials, but rather act as a watchdog over the other three branches of government we have here in Norway. There are no more socialist countries in Europe. That's something you Americans need to learn soon 🧐😃 If it's because we have public hospitals and schools that you use the term, I don't know, but if so, then the USA is also socialist. The main difference is primarily that the population in Europe has fought several battles against the authorities. The public goods are distributed more fairly. You've also had such battles in the USA, but they've been harshly suppressed by the American authorities themselves. They're not even willing to allow more parties into their three branches of government. In the Nordics, it's not political stance that's most important when appointing judges. If the American system were introduced here, it would be seen as a form of dictatorship. A kind of semi-variant.
Well, it was not at all my intention to talk down the USA or start any political debate, but to show that the reason might be more natural than how individual events or coincidences might seem. But I would argue that you kind of started it all by stepping on others' toes without meaning to.

I Don't know much about the politics or governing systems around the world , heck I don't even think I understand it here that well. I Do appreciate your concise description of the Norwegian system . It's interesting. In the main after posting over 1000 videos here since March 3 2023 and this being my first foray into social media , I have only stepped on political ground 3 times that I can recall. I may have misspoke or poorly assumed things in other instances , but largely I'd prefer to present my channel as a sanctuary to Listen To Angelina who has impacted my life and is the Best Singer I have ever heard and perhaps even a better person in addition to her talent. There are many hundreds maybe thousands of places to go for politics. I'm not one of them by choice. This Video was an attempt to explore why Angelina seemed connected in a more sensitive and emotional way , different than the other versions of this song she has done. I thought I'd like to understand more. As is often the case the more you know the more you realize you know very little really. I know you didn’t want to make any political issues. I do usually not respond to misunderstanding, or in this case, indecent thoughts. If I didn’t see you as a reflected reasonable humble person, I wouldn’t use any time on this. It was done in love and respect. And I still love your channel 👍

Remember Norway is a much smaller country than the U.S., it would be most difficult to try and operate under a one size fits all type arrangement. Plus our country wasn't set up that way. In our country the INDIVIDUAL freedom is revered. If it is a socialist setup the individual is controlled by the state. The Norwegians have consented to give up some personal rights to be "taken care of" by their government. If you take both governments to extremes where does the central government stop growing, meaning taking more rights away from the individual. That is something we fight against in the U.S because the more the individual does for themselves the less government is necessary. So the question you must ask yourself is which do you want a more invasive government whose natural end would be a country like China who at a moments notice can shut down any individual or group by any means they need to employ. I refer you to Hong Kong which the use of force changed that city forever as long as China remains a Communist totalitarian government. Right now we are trying to stop that from happening here in the United States.

David, I've read your comments often - and thanks so much for them. Yes, how much do we 'give up our personal rights to be "taken are of" by our government. I'm always thinking about that! A note about Hong Kong: the place was 'taken' by the UK and they and China then made a lease - which expired - and then the Communist Govt gave them more years - no hurry to absorb it into the mainland. That was kind of them - and of course suitable to all. Then some folk - prompted by whom? - decided it should be a separate country. I thought that was not very kind. As they would not reason and be kind, what else but to use some force? They were creating a lot of chaos. I may have this not quite right - . I also think a great deal about the US China relationship - over the years and the current fiasco. I think it's so important to get the facts as right as possible. There's a very good book indeed: The China Mirage, by James Bradley. That sets so much of the historical background to today's conflict. I've rambled on a bit! Oh, how I love Angelina and all she does. We are SO blessed. If I should ever come to Norway, I'll try and find you! I'm in NZ - down the other end of our dear planet. Find me if you get down here. There're not many of us here! All the best, j

That seems to be the age old struggle , who ultimately holds the power to control . The direction of the individual , The policies and execution of policy, which other people or countries are friend or foe, War or Peace, Etc. Democracy in general would seem to favor personal control over the individuals Destiny with Government working to implement the will of the Majority of the citizens . The Political parties offer the big government ( loss of personal freedoms and reliance on Government) vs less government involvement in the individuals lives and focus on essential services such as Military, Infrastructure . And much more of course. Judicial , Laws , administration for example. The Genius of The US formation and the Constitution is the great care in creating checks and balances so that the people could reign in the government if they tried to take too much power or control. Unfortunately the political parties have been using their positions of power to seized more and more power to the point the citizenry is subjugated without being aware . Who doesn't want free everything right? Anyone who takes pride in themselves and accepts personal responsibility for their own choices. That's who. As you have clearly said here David . For the First 150 Years , give or take, The US seemed controlled more by the people , since shortly after WW2 The Government has lured power away with free stuff at the cost of personal freedoms , responsibilities rewards and consequences . I don't want to get political on this channel , This is an entertainment channel. I have considered a channel for political debate , Maybe sometime. I Very much Enjoy this channel and it's overall positivity . The other channel would likely be the opposite. HaHa Love and Kindness David My Friend Steve
