  • The majority of structural framing elements in a mass timber building will be mass timber (beams, columns, floor, and roof panels) left exposed to view on the interior. However, partition walls such as unit demising walls, corridor walls, occupancy separation walls and shafts are often constructed with other materials. The code allowances for which materials can be used for interior partition construction, as well as the required fire-resistance ratings (FRR) of these partitions, vary from one construction type to the next. This videos discusses the code provisions and common applications for interior partitions on completed mass timber projects, as well as design implications.
