Great Find with the big spoon. Definitely a WWII-Korea-Vietnam era mess kit spoon. The big hole at the end fit over the folding handle along with the folding clip on the top. You put all the utensils and the top over the handle then could dip the whole thing in a big tub of boiling soapy water and then a boiling rinse tub and clean and sterilize it. The bottom of the mess kit also served as a frying pan. Used them both as a Boy Scout (lots of them available army surplus) and in the army. Sometimes they are dated.

I had my brothers mess kit and lost it when we had a house fire. It had a spoon a knife and a fork and to half's that served as a plate and a container to carry the utensils.

Harmonicas must have been very popular back in the day, I find the reed plates quite often, even out in the middle of fields out in the middle of no where and makeup compacts I have found in places you wouldn't think you'd find one, my strangest find so far has got to be a shoe makers thing, it was iron and the shape of a shoe my grandfather told me they used those to nail on new soles when the nails hit the iron insert they would bend over and hold the sole on it was very interesting

The US spoon was a great find, but I definitely love hearing the story about Mary...I'm a firm believer that we learn something new everyday if you realize it or not. I liked the car. Lol. I have the white version of that same one still in its package on my wall. When I was a kid I had that blue one though. The Irish coin is a good story. How it got there. Lol. And I agree with this ridiculous heat and humidity. Ya can't do anything outside for too long lately. I'm ready for Fall. I found the brown version of that little bottle in my yard. 😊

Nice work Greg!! I’ve been to one of my farm permissions and had to dig in the roads due to the hay being pretty high and it was like cement, I only lasted 2 or 3 hours. ATB
