  • In this video I use Golden high flow in black, white and hansa yellow mixed with Liquitex pouring medium and GAC800. I pour the acrylic paint on a 12"x12" canvas and use a hair blow dryer on low to push around the paint.
    Remember every blow dryer is different! ;)
    Hope you enjoy!

    Hey MelyD! I have watched this probably a dozen times, sooooo beautiful!!!! I used your exact recipe, although I'm not able to get any of the "lacing/cells" showing up. It looks great, but was hoping for some of that puffiness with the lacing. I'm using a low setting too to make sure it doesn't get overworked.. thoughts? The only thing I can think of is that it's too thick, maybe a splash of water or more high flow to thin out the liquitex? Just thinking out loud at this point, ha!

  • @nalanihamby3710
    @nalanihamby3710 6 років тому +1

    I won’t ask if you used silicone lol, but I will ask why using it is a negative thing? Brand new to the acrylic pouring and binge watching lol.

    • @MelyDartist
      @MelyDartist  6 років тому

      Nalani Hamby good question and I'm sure others have different opinions but this is how I see it.
      The only truly negative thing about adding silicone to your paint is that I don't think anybody knows if your painting will withstand in time. The rest is by preference.
      If you're going to sell your peice, do you mind not knowing what it will look like in 20 years from now? Do you mind adding that extra chemical to your paint that isn't an artist product? (Although its become so popular DeSerre has starting selling their version). Do you mind all the clean-up that comes with it? And if not done properly will result in a failed varnish or resin coating?
      Just depends on what you prefer.

    • @MelyDartist

      Thank you! Because it reduces crazing since there is a lot of pouring medium used and I like the mix

  • @lynettefrohning3069
    @lynettefrohning3069 6 років тому +1

    Mely, this is gorgeous! I tried your recipe, and the paint, both times, became pretty congealed right away when I started to blow it with the dryer! Do you think this is because it's still too thick? I blew it with the dryer, and at first it's okay but then after a couple seconds of blowing it just seemed to start to harden up! I even tried to make sure the blow dryer was on the cool setting 😞 I've never had the paint do that before?!

    • @MelyDartist
      @MelyDartist  6 років тому +1

      Lynette Frohning that is because of the amount of pouring medium and yes it's normal. You gotta work fast and try not to have to blow on it again with the blow dryer. Try adding a little more paint into your mix, it will help with this :)

    • @lynettefrohning3069
      @lynettefrohning3069 6 років тому

      Hi Lynette :)). I just tried this and the same thing happen to me. The yellow part got really gooey. The more I used the blow dryer, the faster the yellow paint got worst. Have you tried it again?

    • @lynettefrohning3069
      @lynettefrohning3069 6 років тому

      @@norma9548 I tried it again and it did the same thing! I haven't tried to change anything yet. The one thing I do want to change though is the strength of my blow dryer! I want to get one that is over 2000 instead of 1800 like the one I have! I think that has a lot to do with it as well because the strength of the air would have to be powerful enough to get it to move in the first few seconds! LOL

    • @norma9548
      @norma9548 6 років тому +1

      I just got a reply from Mely and she said that if I used more paint that I would have more time to play with it. I will certainly try that eventually and let you know :))).

    @norma9548 6 років тому

    Hi Mely. I tried this, but I tried it with the Golden Acrylic tubes (it's what I have) but I do have the yellow high flow. So everything went well until I used the blow dryer on the yellow and it turned gooey fast lol. Not sure what went wrong. Could it have been the blow dryer was to high? Watcha think?

    • @MelyDartist
      @MelyDartist  6 років тому

      If you used the same mix I did (or close) then yes it hardens really fast. You don't have much play around time. Its the pouring medium that does that. If you use more paint you'll have more playing time. Does this make sense to you? It's not the blow dryer I don't think. Also, if you used high flow only for the yellow, maybe its the mix of both paints? Haven't tried rhe tube ones...

  • @peterhoareartist
    @peterhoareartist 6 років тому

    I LOVE this painting. Am impressed by you seemingly adding only a relatively (very) small amount of GAC 800. Is that sufficient to eliminate cracking/crazing? This is the one thing which bugs me enormously and I just confined a lovely, dried painting to the trash can yesterday out of frustration because the thicker paint areas had cracked open.
    Also, you appear in the video to add the Golden High Flow only to the large cup containing white paint and not the black or yellow paint cups... Does that mean the white paint will act more like ink consistency whilst the black and yellow will behave like regular acrylic?
    It's not clear from Golden's website whether this new High Flow acrylic paint is used as a standalone paint or whether it is an additive to normal acrylic paints. It seems to be packaged in small bottles, thereby suggesting it is an additive... But then again it is produced in an increased range of colours, this in turn suggests it is a standalone product...

    • @MelyDartist
      @MelyDartist  6 років тому

      Peter Hoare Golden High Flow is an extremely fluid brand of acrylic paint. I used white, black and yellow here and each color was added into each cup which had pouring medium in it first.
      I know cracking is very discouraging but it only happened to me when I started out and wasn't preparing my paints properly. It has not happened to me for a very long time unless the temperature is VERY dry. Like this winter for example was horrible. Maybe try making your paint less thick and not having too much of it on the canvas.

    • @peterhoareartist
      @peterhoareartist 6 років тому

      MelyD.artist Thanks for the response. You didn't address my question about GAC 800 😀... I am finding that the consistency ie viscosity of the paint is crucial in minimising cracking. And I have now devised a very simple, instant, no tools required method for checking the viscosity of all the paints as I mix them, this ensures all the colours are of the same viscosity, and this method is hugely effective, resulting in minimal, if any at all, cracking and crazing. Putting the paintings in thin plastic sheet covered enclosures slows the drying process very effectively. Thank you!

    Mely, when you resin your paintings is there a board behind in the center or is it just a canvas. I would like to resin some of mine but scared it may be to heavy in the center and may sag. What do you think . Your amazing girl, could watch you all day but my husband thinks I'm on to long . Thanks

    • @MelyDartist
      @MelyDartist  6 років тому

      Marlaine Gillis depending on the size of your canvas and the brand of resin you use you will probably have to do 2 coats for a perfect finish because the weight of the resin wipl bring it to the center. It will not look like it's sagging at all. Thank you so much :) x

    Mely, would you say that your paint consistancy is a little thinner than those that do the flip cup pours? When I watch your videos the paint seems to run a little faster. I tried to do one like yours and it turned out pretty but didnt look like yours at all. I think my paint was thicker than yours.

    You should get sponsors. Especially Golden now. There's a great many of your followers that are buying Golden because you've been teaching so many of us about it.
