Thank you so much that was so clear and you demonstrated it so well. My garlic never worked but watching your video made me realise the mistakes I was making .
Sends hubby to supermarket for bulbs of garlic. Do you make garlic “pucks” Ivan? cook garlic till soft, mash to a pulp, use one of the tiny ice cream scoops to scoop uniform amounts onto a flat tray, open freeze, put into a bag, freeze, when you want to add garlic to a dish just thrown in a “puck”. Thanks Ivan. Stay safe x
Thanks Ivan. Last year I planted my smaller garlic bulbs in containers and harvested the greens. It's like cut & come again spring onion with a garlic twist!
Thanks Ivan for this brilliant update, I'll be planting my 'hard neck' garlic tomorrow as it's supposed to be another sunny day but a little bit warmer and they'll be going into containers. Take care and all the best. Stevie
I went out to get my garlic spot ready yesterday. I got the container all cleaned, fertilized, and ready to plant. Then I remembered I haven't plant any spinach yet and so I planted spinach in my garlic spot. Now I have to find another container for the garlic. I really like your idea of planting a quicker growing crop in the center of the garlic, I think I'll plant some lettuce with mine. Great thinking, Ivan.
Timed this nicely lol just sat down with a cuppa, call me thick but I didn't know you can grow garlic like that lol, guess what I'll be doing, I've got a couple of spare containers, thanks Ivan enjoyed watching & learning 😊
just harvested the last of the runner & dwarf beans from the containers lots of roots left in the compost what is the best way to recycle the compost the PH is 7.8 to 8 & dry is that to high for reusing and how do I adjust the PH to 7.4 will I need to sieve to soil to remove the roots than added more compost I note you use a lot of fish blood & bone meal what about horse manure or chicken manure how do you know which fertilise to use for different plants it all seams to be a science to me just been following you i have emptied the containers & put the compost into bags for now whilst i clean out the containers I have no garden & only use containers & have found that parsnip, beetroot, carrots, runner & French beans, onions, sweet corn, potatoes, chillies & peppers, tomatoes have the best success rate this season so will be looking to grow again (now with the addition of garlic nice video) but I would like to get better yields from the plants & feel this would be with better fertilisers & feeds can you help.
We're garlic lovers and we've already put our garlic in the ground Ivan but I'm going to give your container method a go and also grow it from a supermarket garlic bulb. We haven't done that before. Can never have to much garlic in our house. So here's my question, taking in to consideration that I've never grown anything in my life so forgive me if this sounds daft but...the garlic from the supermarket that I use usually originates from a warm country so, my daft question is... if the bulb I use is from Spain, thus used to warm conditions, will it still grow well in the British cool conditions?? Our greenhouses in the garden are a little bit shaded so don't stay as warm as they could through winter. You did say to put them in a sunny area so if you think they do need extra warmth then I'll stick my container in the conservatory. Love your container boxes by the way. Thanks Ivan.
I grow the spanish supermarket variety, grows fine, the chinese kind not so good. North scotland here, no problems. Keep a couple of your home grown bulbs aside for planting later, they improve that way.
@@ivans-gardening-allotment-uk Cheers Ivan. I wasn't sure about the garlic you buy in the supermarkets so thanks for that. Like I said, we've already put some garlic in the ground but I'm trying them in containers because it's saving on space. Think I'm getting the gardening bug. Growing in containers is perfect for me, no Hard digging or weeding or heavy garden tools involved. Not sure how long my pink gardening gloves will stay clean though. 🤣
