  • Arm crashing is used as an element of entry to make contact with your opponent and create a path of contact to your opponent while simultaneously obstructing and changing the balance and structure of your opponent when done properly. While it may appear to be easy and simple, arm crashing is not a simple technique that is easy to use against a skilled and dedicated opponent. However, once mastered, arm crashing will completely change the way you fight and defend yourself due to the numerous benefits and opportunities that arise from the technique.
This video provides the basic applications of arm crashing used when entering against an attacker as a counterstrike method. Counterattacks typically require more skill and awareness initial strikes, and also demonstrate a method of self defense against an attacker. Bagua Kuntao Silat relies heavily on the principles behind arm crashing which are discussed at length in this video. In order for arm crashing to be successful, proper rooting, skeletal structure, control of your center and positioning relative to your opponent while issuing force must be executed. Hence, the arm crashing drill shown in my other video. It all begins with implementation of the fundamentals so the practitioner may utilize all the tools available at a high level against a resisting opponent. Start slowly but be consistent. Moving along too quickly may cause the practitioner to fall back on old habits resulting in a failure to stay relaxed with good structure while attempting to fluidly shift weight through the opponent when making contact. In other words, if you find yourself just throwing hands to make it work, you're not practicing Bagua Kuntao Silat.

I like the term arm-crashing. This is term that fundamentally defines the internal martial arts, where most people fail and end up trading strikes from afar, without being able to utilize the sticking skills.
Arm crashing is not about grabbing the arm, but rather making contact, sticking and manipulating the opponent's arm into a good position for further strikes and throws.

Exactly! Internal methods are not external oriented and vice versa.

I like everything that you on the. Lead right hand. So why can't you do. The same thing.on the left hand

Of course you can. It's just what I'm teaching right now. If you're left handed, you should be doing it that way as the lead. Dominant hand first is the method utilized due to weapons orientation.

It seems you're striking and blocking with the same motions!!!

It isn't a block as much as it's a deflection of the opponent's strike as you enter to make contact with the opponent with your own strike or grasp.
