This is absolutely gorgeous, the lyrics hit so hard and the creative metaphors and visuals really land. I love the detail of him having roses on his sweater, but Illy being eventually hurt by the seemingly beautiful and harmless rose he gave her, it's genius symbolism. brb gonna go spam the replay button

The ukulele at the end sounds just like accepting that you're not in a relationship anymore, and you're only getting comfort from yourself. And finally it's enough.
It's also proof that this song is referring to Illy's relationship with Kris Tannimato. That ukulele solo at the end is near identical to the one in the song Illy made for their 1 year anniversary a few years ago.

@@Mixedemotions-aaaah8766 Upon further inspection, I don't think this song is about Chris. In Illy's video about breakups, she mentions letting a person go to pursue a better career somewhere else. I have a feeling that this is what happened with Chris. He probably got a job animating for a big studio or something, and had to move away. The only reason I thought it was Chris was because of the ukulele at the end.

Well... that's a coincidence. Two days ago my ex and I stopped talking, even after we became friends. She changed a lot and we weren't really able to stay on the same page anymore, even as colleagues. This song coming out today is quite fitting. I mean, we still liked each other, just realized we are not a great match as lovers - we both had our issues and traumas to work out and so those had a big impact. Plus I was a person, who wanted more contact and she wanted to have the ability to go silent for a couple of days. We have been friends for 2 months, before becoming partners for 1 and a half years and then had spent another 6-7 months being friends again. I have a lot to thank her for, some stuff I have not been as happy with, but overall, we had a good run. It still hurts, but the way she is currently acting is a bit like going from one extreme to the other. Having told her my fears, she told me, that she doesn't want to keep in touch with people, who think, that there is something going wrong with her behaviour and that she truly feels happier now and so, after some false accusations, I knew it was the time to call it quits. It's sad I wasn't able to end it with the contact just gradually fizzling out over time and us still being on decent terms, like I have been in some cases earlier on in my life. Still, I wish her the best and thank her for the time we have spent together.

I've never been in a romantic relationship but I haven't talked to my dad since March. Basically, he's not the perfect dad I thought he was and I've cut him out of my life for personal reasons. I still think about the fun we used to have and sometimes I still miss him. But I know being away from him is for the best. This song's really helping me get through it, so thank you Illy.
im in a similar situation. my mum and dad have always been divorced but he was still in my life. he moved further away in 2020 and i confronted him about things he's said and done to me, and he insulted me and my mum and blocked me. i know that not talking to him or seeing him is better for me and my mental health, but i still miss when he wouldnt be the total worst.

I love this song. And I mean, LOVE IT. There really isn’t songs on the radio that hit as hard as this one.
The instrumentation makes the whole song feel like an album. From the beautiful piano and synths to the crashing Melodies. I can get lost in these Melodies. It honestly feels like a shooting star passing by.
While I have never been in a toxic relationship, I know what toxic people are like. I know how they can affect you. And the crushing reality is hard to grasp.
So these lyrics cut really deep for me. To see Illy put these together is super brace, and I commend her deeply.
Finally, Illy sounds genuinely broken here. Like she wants to cry on this track. It’s heartbreaking to listen to.

I think it depends how both break up, otherwise, you’ll only see the negative in your ex
I loved this. I genuinely loved this. The lyrics are simple yet deep, and really hit home, even if you've never had this kind of experience, this kind of back and forth, this emotional manipulation that keeps you hopeful and lets you down every time. Plus, the creativity in this was really something special. From the ice always breaking under animated Illy's feet, to the lonely walk through the snow, following footprints that lead nowhere, to the final decision of burning that pile of memories, memories so cold and painful they kept her from finding a place, and a way, of course, to stay warm. Really brings meaning to the phrase: I burnt that bridge. Because that's what those memories were. Wonderful, yes, but only in the beginning, back when everything seemed perfect. And seemed is a key word here, too, but I'm just glad she matured and moved on from all of this, even if it hurt, burned or left her hands bleeding as she clutched the roses, a universal symbol of romantic love. Here's hoping someone will really see her and love her for her sweet, honest, kind, emotional, true self. Great job, can't wait to hear Neverland as a whole. For now, though, big thumbs up ❤💯
I did feel those things, but I googled it and found out that some people just forget people and move on in an unhealthy seeming way. I’m not saying people who are sad because of someone leaving are weak, those people have a right to be sad and feel those emotions, *i just don’t.* I felt like a bad person for years because of how I handled leaving someone.

This song really encapsulated how freaking awesome the rose tinted glasses of having a crush you think likes you back or dating someone has. They are the thing you look forward to the thing you center your life around because they make you so happy and when they leave not only did you loose something that made you happy, you lost THE thing which makes it so much worse.

Love the use of almost groovy bass lines and a more spacey atmosphere to portray the “cloud nine” of romance all while the imagery of shattering grounds, thorns vines hidden replacing roses, disappearing “jock with glasses” boy, and the cold wintery forest and shed showing the cracks in this seemingly perfect reality, the flaws that grow until they can’t be ignored for the sake of keeping the happy times going forever. And then finally to end it with less editing and simpler ukelele and vocals to single the end of the illusion and the path to better times was the cherry on top.
While I’ve not had any major romantic entanglements, I’ve been in relationships that felt like gilded cages the longer I was in them. But once I got out, I was all the better and freer for it.
