You guys are amazing. Thank you so much!!
OHHH YURRRRRR!!!
#drums
I found a Joey signature snare with the tribal "S" on it just over a year ago at my local Guitar Center. I'm so happy I picked it up when I did. I love it 🖤🤘🏻
I'm playing this for years, it's awesome
@@experimetalfan8851 I agree. I love how it looks and how it sounds.
What is that snare made of?
@@alyxl4mb904 its a steel snare. if you want a snare that sounds good when you crank the shit out of it then it's a pretty good option
Ive been using it since the time it came out and sold a lot of them through our guitar center drum department. Still love it.
Alternate title: Sam preaches about how much he loves pearl all video 😂😂
Drumeo is awesome! The Drumeo community is very supportive and encouraging. The instructors are amazing and are accessible. A valuable asset for any drummer! Excellent drum gear suggestions.
I'm so glad to read this. I bought a kit a few weeks ago and I'm working through their free lessons before I sign up. I'm hoping to get insight on which heads to buy, lol.... isn't that always the way.
The Roland TD17KVX is also a fantastic mid-range smaller sized e-drumkit. Lovely mesh heads all around, 3 zone ride and a really nice hi-hat (which you can get a proper stand for)!
I have a bunch of videos up using one - i can trigger my tom rims to splashes also, so sick!
I wonder why he chose Alesis kits because i've heard much better reviews on the roland ones.
@@jonnel4038 some people fund the Roland heads too springy. Matt Gartska hates them!
@@jonnel4038 Alesis seems to be a bit more popular in the midrange these days. Love my Td17kvx to death though.
@@spooty75 that's interesting. I wonder which he prefers.
I use to play drums when i was 14 but had to sell them when i moved when i was 16. Finally bought another kit. The 5pc pearl roadshow kit with everything included for 900 bucks. Not a bad deal. Upgraded the pedal to dw 2000 double pedal and im having a blast. Your videos definitely got me back into playing again
I converted an acoustic snare from Griffin over Christmas weekend! I was able to snag one of their limited run designs they only did 1,000 of (screaming spray paint cans for a really cool graphic on the shell) and I threw a 2 play mesh head on with a ddrum red shot trigger and it was a great snare replacement for my Alesis kit to help not look so tiny! Really not a bad little snare if you're planning on using it on an ekit anyway
How good does that snare drum sound acoustically? I was looking at it and wondered if it could pair nicely with an intermediate level drum set.
@@IRLguy777 It's definitely nothing to write home about - but it's not a "st. Anger" trash can snare either haha. I would toss this on a beginner/intermediate kit, sure. I wouldn't keep the heads it ships with though, they just feel cheap
So you snagged it huh?
Going back to the kick pedals for the bass drum, I got lucky a few years back and scored a badass deal (damn near $125 give or take off of Guitar Center at the time) on a Gibraltar direct drive double kick pedal. I honestly wish I knew what model it is that I have right now... but I saved both hard plastic beaters from an old, El Cheapo ass PDP double kick pedal I bought before going Gibraltar. So far I love these Gibraltar double kicks. But if the time comes where I have enough to buy an Axis Double kick pedal for my kit, I'll give you my honest opinion about them. Cheers from Texas and
Chad
Now this is what I need to hear for a drum wishlist for 2022 thanks 66Samus OHHHHHHHH YURRRRRRRRRR
I'm 28 and just started learning drums a few weeks ago. I bought the Donner 200 on a friend's recommendation and for my needs I love it! Had some difficulty getting everything adjusted to where I feel comfortable but I'm having a blast with it so far
Wow, thanks for this awesome list! So awesome you have it from cheapest to most expensive, instead of just here's the most expensive option!
Shit, I didn't think drum mics would be that costly, I figured overhead or room mics would be, but wooo!
Thanks Samus!
I see the custom duals in the thumbnail and I am just in 100% agreement on that one
Very easy. Czarcie Kopyto pedals. Tama b/b kit. Bell brass snare. Promark TX5AN sticks. Sabian HHX and AAX and AA and HH cymbals. Tm2 with footblasters. Coated Remo Heads.... 2 of everything except snare. 2 of all cymbals and all toms
Thank you Bahee Bro! This is perfect.
Thanks for all the "new to me" gear tips
Love Pearl hardware. When I was playing shows I used a Pearl free floating brass snare live cus it was sooooo loud the club didn’t need to mic it and the audience could still hear it.
I have a pearl prestige session select. bought it for about $1400 about 10 years ago with some meinl custom classics. im loving the shit out of it. good deal for a very good drum set. keep up the good videos and greetings from the Netherlands.
Huge fan of your videos man
I started out with Pearl and ended up going to Sonor, but after playing a Reference Pure i think i'm going back!! They're so damn nice
nooooo!!!! dont do it.....Sonor is life :)
@@paulkazoullis2942 sonor SQ1and SQ2 for me
Wow! Owning a drum kit and maintaining it is definitely expensive as hell.
Well i just finished completing my already obsolete Pearl masters custom mmx maple in diamond burst with blk hardware. Took me 3 yrs of ebay, kijiji and reverb search to find it but all done and ready for 2022
Watching this and knowing the prices for me are going to be in Canadian makes me wana cry.
got myself the 2nd joey snare about a year or two ago, best snare ever!!
I have a Donner DED-200 with an acoustic bass drum and mesh head using a Roland Kick Trigger. Super happy.
This is the Year of Samus! 22!!!!!
1:27 is the drum kit I’ve wanted for a while.
You aren't allowed to purchase a masterwork level kit until you are a masterwork level drummer! All drummers should learn on an entery level nice kit.
I can recommend going the e-kit route as a beginner. It actually safes you quite some money. For about 800 bucks you get a decent kit, you don't need to replace heads, cymbals and for sure no sticks. And if you buy a little better kit from the beginning, they are very stable if it comes to reselling it. My Roland TD-17 was about 1700 € in 2018 and I could still get around 1500 for it now.
The Evans Hybrid snare head is amazing.
6:20 I got a Jordison snare for Christmas. It's the most favourite gift I've ever received. I miss him.
Normally, they only time i can understand drummers is when they ask me to help move their kit into the practice space, venue, etc. With this vid, i can effectively nip it at the bud and tell them to stfu when they start talking about sick gear they cant afford. Thanks samus!
I started out with a simple Ludwig drum kit back in the 70's, this stuff is a whole 'nother level!
i was at sweetwater a few days ago, the kit they set up there put me in a total garth moment. im still thinking about selling some organs...
was it the funky looking pearl kit?
I just bought the Roland TD 50x with 3 additional cymbals.. Just played my first gig with it Saturday and it was awesome and the sound tech was able to get a dam near perfect mix with the Bass drum going out via a 2000 watt sub..😮
I got 2 snares. One came with the kit, Mapex Armory Tomahawk. And I have the Mapex Warbird, Chris Adlers signature snare 🔥 Aquarian are my go to heads
Yeah drums are definitely one of the most expensive instruments especially with maintenance and needing to replace heads, cymbals and sticks frequently LOL
For electronic kits also look at Roland, I have the TD-17kvx and it's amazing.
Damn, you really covered all the bases here
This Is Definitely Gonna Be Samus’s Favorite Year… And I Think We All Know Why.
I love these drum gear videos even tho I'm not a drummer. Haha.
I went from a 1984 Tama Rockstar kit to a Roland TD-5 electric setup and back to an acoustic kit with a Mapex m birch 10 piece double bass kit with lots of shiny things. Easy to spend upwards of 4 grand if you want to. Or keep things simple.
I went with the export with the expansion kit. I used the 30 day drumeo coupon. Two days into it and I went with the 1 year subscription. It's like Netflix for drummers except I don't spend two hours looking for something to watch.
Classics custom duals sound insanely gooooood!!! Just added a 18 in China from that series and it is hellish!! Meinl is making a run for number 2 in the cymbal industry. Zildjian is a tough one to beat at number 1 but meinl is well on there way to being right up there with them.
Paiste just… doesn’t exist?
@@Jasper_Drummer I actually love the sound of paiste cymbals!!! It’s very unique.
Check out Eugene Ryabchenko if u want to hear the quality of them in studio.
My local drum shop is a paiste dealer and I’ve been wanting to get an entire paiste set up for my kit but I just haven’t pulled the trigger cuz of how much I’d have to spend hahaha 😝 but yea they are fire too!
I have a trick dominator pedal and I can confirm it’s smoother and faster than axis
Thank you samus! now I can become a pearl drummer!
Thanks drum Santa! You know where I live.
I want to see you create your own drum kit with pearl masterworks!
BUY USED! You would be shocked how cheap you can get certain things that are in near perfect condition. I usually pay like half price cymbals compared to what they are new and I've gotten a lot of other hardware and stuff for stupid cheap.
The Chris Adler Mapex Warbird Snare pops!!
Well honestly, I'm ten grand in on bass shit. So, playing music in general is expensive.
Hey I just got that Pearl kit for my 2 year old! Sweeet! Will upgrade the heads once he’s done beating it up.
@1.48 "🤘..Nice 🤘"
lol someone's gotta work this into a meme or someshit, absolutely worthy
I am 50 now. Last gig November 1998. I want to buy my dream drum kit. The world has changed, it’s crazy. Watching you and buy a Varus Drum from spain because of your reaction video of EL Estepario. You use Meinl cymbals, i will probably buy this brand. On top of that, buy on the the internet and it will all be delivered to my house 😂 crazy. Thanks for everything 66Samus Metalhead forever 🤘🏻☠️🤘🏻☠️ hello from Québec.
What do you think of the custom Dark ? Good choice ?
I play the Joey Jordison Signature Snare for years. its amazing!
That meinl dual!!!!
i got a joey signature for $150 at a local shop. it was a steal!
i'm curious, have you tried the Mapex Black Panther Wraith Matt Halpern signature snare drum?
Please do a part 2
You and i have alot of similar taste. My pearl vision set with a sensitone snare is my favorite set out of all the drums ive had, but its more so the heads and the way i tune them. I played around for years with heads and evans is the way i go for toms and aquarian for snare and my kick. I havent played super expensive drums but if you get the sound and feel you want for less, then theres no need. Cymbals and pedals are where the big bucks come in..
for this new year I decided to go for an Odery cafekit drum kit with a 14" deep bass sound small drums huge sound I have an 18" Tama stagestar. I am a Gretsch drummer and I have a Gretsch catalina club street drum kit with a 16" bass drum I agree with the choices of Cymbals as I have a 20" special dry ride and the 8" dual crash I have 17" Istanbul agop dark dry Xist high hats very dark hats by the way. very the Odery cafekit was $275 new. the Gretch street kit was $325 new. the Tame was $399 new. I love the fact that my small bass drums sound like they are 20" bass drums
i own trick pro 1v bigfoot pedals. but i've heard you aren't a fan of Trick pedals and i was wondering why because i LOVE them.
Bet this is Samus's favorite year
so helpful purchased my first bass drum pedal months ago the iron cobra 200 would reccomend
Im a guitar player, not a drummer but still love samus's channel. Ohhh yurrrrr
6 months of drum lessons.
Right right ,left left, learn to read music! Honestly the HCS sound terrible.
They’re so cheap though it’s hard to not recommend them to a beginner.
This was great! Wish i saw it sooner!
When are you expanding your emerge kit?
also i use the alesis sample rack to trigger all my drums with the red Ddrum triggers and 2 roland kick triggers but that module has been discontinued sadly because its easily the best and affordable that they made. luckily i still got mine.
OMG, also a Meinl fan, should keep this video as a reference for future purchases 😂🤚
The first cymbals I bought were a pair of HCS 13” Hihats. They’re really nice, especially for like $100 or under.
I think you can use a y cable on the roland tm-2 in order to trigger 4 drums (or 2 2-zone). For under three-hundo, not bad.
When you change out the top heads what do you do with the bottom heads? I have a cheap PDP Z5 drum set and want to get Evans UV2 coated heads but I don’t know if I need to buy 2 heads per drum or if there are specific heads for the bottom.. I would keep the bottom heads that came on it but I’m guessing they are trash lol
usually its good to change the bottom heads yes. definitely not as often as top heads though
I wanted to live there. I live in Brazil and here things cost at least 6x more.
14:10 dj stands for drum junkie
Nice Video samus like always
Bought the Bayerdynamic 770 Studio Headphones for christmas. Do you guys know if they are as good as the ddrum headphones for 129 bucks?
13:40 I had a dude in guitar center laugh when I told him I use the same ear protection I use to shoot as I do to play drums lol Ill say one thing though, Putting your earbuds underneath the earmuffs is a great economic choice, sure you might get better sound quality from the more expensive set but it's not necessary
The one thing I would have liked to have seen touched on is recording software, but otherwise this was a great video.
To be honest, I had absolutely no idea how much drum kits cost. But to afford some of the high-end stuff, I'd have to sell all of my internal organs, and my granny's cat :P Great video as usual. Keep up the good work. :-)
One thing - hybrid snare heads - no good with flange hoops I heard. Need die cast or S hoops?
Twenty Twenty Twoooooooo.
Sam: 2nd of February is a Tuesday this year!.....2 2 2022..... :-D
pearl is the only way to go. ive been playing a pearl session custom for almost 15 years. trick pro v1 longboard pedals and paiste cymbals.
So here's where I am. Can someone please give a opinion to help me?
My practice acoustic set has a Pearl Icon Rack and I currently have a 2up 2down setup. I want to do something close to what Samus has by using my acoustic cymbals with electronics.
My question is concerning price and efficiency, should I purchase mesh drumheads trigger my drums and mic the cymbals overhead? OR Should I buy some mesh pads, and an affordable module?
** I plan on using EzDrummer either way. My goals is to hear myself, hear tracks/metronome, etc. I don't have to be quiet in my garage but out of consideration I would like to cut my ambient noise down some (my snare and kick drum are the loudest).
Woo for Pearl Shilling!! :D
Samus, how do you post songs you cover without receiving a copyright claim being attached to a song? I've recently started playing along with songs in the background with my drumming. They're just for me, I don't monetize them, it's just a fun hobby. However, each one of them received a copyright notice, and I'm not sure how one avoids that particular pitfall. Is there any advice you could share?
Capt Bahee wants Al for the new year
"Drumming can be expensive" - yer not fooking wrong! I seem to be on an endless cycle of replacing cymbals. I usually buy near top-of-the-range Sabian or Zildjan, I'm not a huge hitter and I'm very careful about the angle I hit them at, also using "graphite" sticks for practising, but they just seem to keep splitting every few months or so. Yet my drum heads last for years with barely a mark, apart from my snare.
Samus turns Slayer shirts into "Aye!" shirts. Haha!
Mine is just a damn room I can play in for hours at any hour and not have noise control knocking on the door
For a nice, cool, edrum you can go with the Roland TD17KVX or, if you want to go up notch, you can get the Roland VAD306 which looks sweet and also portable. Or you can get the Yamaha DTX8K. Looks super sweet.
For triggers, again, the Roland RT30 series and for a nice, good priced module, depending on your budget, the Roland TD07, which is nice and cheap, the TD17 por the TD27. I agree with the Alesis kits, except, for the Command. I think for the extra bucks, the Crimson II SE is way better, even better the the DM10. Of course, the Strike and Pro SE are top of the line.
Oh yourrrrrr!!!!
I saw pearl stuff and "wishlist" and was like "yes" 😂
I have an Alesis Strike Pro. Any rack systems that work with that. The stock one is a little small…
Its strange that drum prices have stayed relatively level over the years except drum pedals... suddenly drum pedals cost as much as the kit...
everything has gone up in price at least 10% since 2019.... some stuff almost double. I feel like the industry as a-whole is taking advantage of the "supply-chain" issues. I call BS.
My favorite ride cymbal is the hcs 20 inch ride… It sounds good as a ride and it sounds good to crash on
Wow, so for between 40 and 90 thousand dollars you can have it all and get started today! \m/
I have two of the Joey snares.
I have a DM10 MK2. They're pretty decent BUT They're not very durable if you have heavy hands. I've broken two of the pads so far because they have a flimsy plastic thingy that the peizo sensor things are attached to. If you snap one part of it, it stops registering the skin hits 🤷 other than that it's pretty good! Wrote an album on it so I can't complain too much I guess 😂
are we gonna see a 66samus signature snare
Hi Man, how can you manage the Acoustic cymbals sound (with Mics) and the electronic drums. I assume that the Cymbals Mics can also catch the sound of the Electronics Pads ? How can you manage this issue ? Thanks in advance for your help
Yes you can use an Equalizer to carve out some of the frequencies from the pads :)
@@66Samus Thanks Man, it would be interesting to make a Video of how you handle this with your drum. Very Curious about it :-)
Holy crap! How have I just realised!? Well I mean obviously I know it’s 2022 but apart from that it’s 2022 so ya know what that means…22!!!!
I'm looking for that Vintage Lars Ulrich signature snare he used on St, Anger 😏
Hey samus how many tune keys do you have
