  • What can the Festool ExoActive exoskeleton do for you? Is it worth the money? If you want to get that question answered, you should watch this video in which I put the Festool ExoActive to the test in a series of side by side comparisons, with and without the exoskeleton on! The results of these challenges might shock you! If you want to see more videos about the Festool ExoActive, check out my channel and there are more videos coming, so make sure to subscribe!
In this video I do an endurance test, how long can I hold a weight above my head with the ExoActive exoskeleton on, and without the exoskeleton. I also do a repetition test, how many times can I lift a weight with the Festool ExoActive on, and without the exoskeleton on!

I am considering these for my guys. We build houses, drywall, painting, you name it, lots of overhead work. While the video of a heavy weight was interesting and informative, I suspect a graph of the percentage change in productivity/strength/reps/endurance slopes upward as weight is decreased. Said another way, we lift heavy things, but that's not the issue - it's using a 5 lb. impact driver to drive 1000 screws overhead that I'd like to see a big productivity boost for. So would you please test light weight applications with more reps?

Hey a fellow trades man, would you like to tell him his workout toy is highly toxic and causes brain damage or should we just let him keep playing with it until he’s tying his name and spelling his shoelaces backwards…. I think I learned that around the same time I learned fire is hot and sticking stuff in those lil holes in the wall that are just begging to have stuff stuck in them will hurt like hell…. By the way that’s not an accent he from Utah he’s just been playin with that brick for too long…

Also, I didn’t even think of this before, but cameramen for Cinema rigs carry heavy camera rigs for hours at arms length. A lot of times it’s a $50k-$100k rig when it’s kitted out with an Arri or RED with cinema primes and all. So keeping that up and at shoulder height all day would be ideal (without the compressor noise of course). But the concept is solid. Plus the director gives two shits what you look like while you’re shooting. As long as you get the shot, you’re good. Another professional industry that exo suits will thrive in.

That’s thinking out of the box! Nice I didn’t even think of this!

At the price this thing is 10 seconds of extra work or 10 more passes with a tool above your head doesn’t seem like it’s game changing. I found this after having to stop working full time due to an injury to my shoulder and had hoped this might see me able to do more but I just don’t think it would. Happy for festool to let me have one to find out though obviously 😂

interesting! my workplace uses a Graco plural component spray rig for polyurea coatings, also known as "truck bedliner". The spraynozzle is heavy and has a thick supply hose bundled in an electrically heated jacket. It is considerable weight to carry with one arm, the hose slung over the other shoulder for balance of this weight. this becomes strenuous pretty quick, and the guys who operate that equipment all have messed up shoulders before long. they tried a boom crane type thing. to act as a support but it is simply not practical in the way we have to move around to coat complex shaped sculptures. I have been looking into steadicam gimbal type support vest used in photography but this is a real possible solution too!

Yeah, you should really check it out, it's great for lifting things that are quite heavy. I can imagine a spray nozzle and a heavy hose is quite heavy to lift during a longer period and the Festool ExoActive might be a great solution!

For all the naysayers, I imagine infantry carrying around a 100 lb minigun like Arnold in Terminator 2 might be an easier task. Being mobile with a giant apparatus would be a ton easier with that rig. New tech comes a lot easier to the public after they see the military using it in vehicles and infantry. Plus the US Military has a lot of cash to spend for expensive toys like this.

You needed to start without the exo. Otherwise you’ve pre-exhausted yourself and the second test is not the same as the first because your body is already weakened.

What do you expect he’s working out with Lead, I give him 3 months before he’s wearing a cape and a helmet with that suit making the same video all day everyday until peanut butter:30 time

    • @FennahMakes

This is an extreme test, for example, the planex is much lighter than the brick of lead and you move your arms around, using more muscles, making it easier. Pricew wise, it wil retail for about 3000. What’s your opinion? Keep in mind you’ll be able to use it everyday and also mind the health benefits, not just that it makes it easier

Elbow bent vs elbow not bent. This is not a fair comparison. To me it appears as if the exoskeleton did nothing to increase your lifting abilities.
