I have recently been having an internal debate between strictly serving myself (getting mines) Vs. servicing the community (giving myself to the service of the greater good). I absolutely agree with this man's POV about us being the change we want to see. As he pointed out, if we wait for Africa to "fix" itself while we flee to experience luxury in the West, Africa will not be fixed. We the people have to be the catalyst to bring about the change.
We really do and expat culture as far as people fleeing for western countries is understandable- but it’s a vicious cycle!
@AntonsClass We have to do both , I am afraid. We have to both pursue our individual fulfillment, and also pursue our collective uplifting.
Choosing one for the other, to me is detrimental to both. We already work three times as hard to get half the recognition. Just refocus those efforts to yourself and our community.
@@qutieqouture6846 that's why it has been an internal debate for me. While I agree that we should pursue our own unique passions, the challenge for me has been envisioning ways to utilize my passions for purpose; to serve not just me, but the greater good. To find greater fulfillment and joy in also uplifting others with my gifts, talents, etc.
I feel far too many become mesmerized by the allure of materialism, consumerism, status, and purely self-serving pursuits (myself included), while neglecting the fact that the human species is literally hardwired to be part of a community.
@AntonsClass don't over think it. Just do.
It's not just Africa, it's Caribbean and other places as well. Someone said colonialism never left. It just evolved to a more sophisticated form
Very true. And all extensions of Africa and our diaspora!
Brittney, aka out wife... I just watched the 1st 7 minites, and your passion for Naija is intoxicating. We appreciate you. You are now like our sixth (wo-)man, but at this rate you will deserve to be on the court soon...not just making a difference but actually helping to put points on the board. Keep learning, AND PLEASE KEEP ASKING QUESTIONS!!!!
I will definitely keep it up! Thank you so much 😍
This was insightfull especially about the subsidiary and devalueing of the currencies like Naira.
The subsidy was something I really need broken down!
The conversation is like this what Africa needs. We need Africans to understand and get empowered in the details of their own rich resources and understand the ways to mobilize each other to enhance their common strength and promote growth as a unity. Thanks Brittney for bringing such an enlightening discussion.
You’re super welcome and thank you for watching! These talks aren’t always easy but they’re important 💕
I enjoyed this dialogue. Looking forward to viewing the continued sessions. Also, will be ordering his book. I especially appreciate him providing that info about the history of Edo. That is where my maternal lineage is from.
I am very pleased that you enjoyed this! A lot of knowledge packed into this interview. He is an insightful man! Thanks for ordering and I hope you enjoy it! Edo queen!
Thanks for sharing, I truly appreciate your perspective!!!
Thanks for watching! 😍😍😍😍😍😍
Great conversation watched both videos. Thank you!!
Glad you enjoyed it! Seriously! He’s a gem!
Maybe you can feature some political analyst, global leaders, other authors, etc. from the universities in Africa!
that actually is an amazing idea! thank you. i love these type of deep convos, honestly.
Brittney this is a great forum!! Do more, especially now. Stay safe❤❤❤
Dearest, you're gonna hate me for saying this, but maybe layoff the smoking while on camera. I think you are awesome. Just some Elder advice. Like an Auntie❤❤❤.
@@ruqayyahcurtis7504, she said she is going to the US soon. I hope you will tell her to "stay safe." African mentality.
Britt, these discussions with this Brother are underrated. It's super informative and I'm here for it.
Thanks for the content.
People always value entertainment over education so I don’t take it personally lmao. But they’re really GOOD! Thank you!
Omg, I would love to meet this guy. He is the kind of person that should be elected to Government.
Follow his socials!!!! 😍😍😍😍
@@BrittneyCaldwell Will do. I keep asking myself where did our ancestors screwed up or was Africa just down right robbed, Brittney.
39:06 I'll give a point to East Africa for that, any Bank within the region that can be found in multiple countries and you happen to have an account you are good to go.
😵💫😵💫😵💫😵💫
31:12 At least for Kenya land was redistributed back to the communities and tribes even though many say the freedom fighters were betrayed. It's a complex story for sure.
Reparations matter!
35:35 An awesome question.
💕💕💕💕
Great questions Brittney! It's great to see you talking about global politics and speaking with a guest. ❤❤❤Are you still in Kenya?
I am currently in Nigeria but heading back to the states for a while soon.
@BrittneyCaldwell I hope you Keep the podcast going when you get back to US.
i am only going for 3 weeks and then I will be back! @@ruqayyahcurtis7504
Yeah, I appreciate your answer. I know that from living in a few African countries. I was really posing the question for your guest speaker. We need to address this and we must sacrifice! Sacrifice!
Sacrifice is hard but neccessary. I believe his thoughts would make him a valuable politician!
This Brother spoke nothing but the truth. Great interview. No one will build Africa for us. We need to make the sacrifices to build it ourselves. Until then, we will keep seeing a revolving door of Europeans, Asians and Middle Eastern's getting richer on our resources.
This is all facts! ♥️♥️♥️
Wow! I had no idea that the Naira was once equivalent to the value of USD. Anyway, thanks for these conversations! So glad you shine your light in these UA-cam streets. Even in Nigeria, where they be takin the lights (literally)! 😂
Lmaoooooooo this comment sent me 😂😂😂😂 but thank you! I had NO CLUE of this ever I swear because right now it’s 900 to 1
@AntonsClass, it was not even equal, the naira was higher. In the late 70s and early 80s, 1 Naira was equal to for 4 Dollars. A breif history. In the 70s, the Nigerian Naira was equated the the British Pound, and it was £1 = ₦2. When the dollar was being introduced to Nigeria in the late 70s, a special coin was minted to make conversion to dollar easy because the value of dollars was so small. That special coin was 25 kobo, and 1 Naira was 100 kobo, so 1 Naira was equal to 4 dollars.
@@sunnyyande378 very interesting. Thank you for sharing this historical information. 🙏🏽
Great❤❤❤
💕💕💕💕💕
I haven't watched the video yet, but I suggest you and everyone read "A History of Nigeria," by Toying Falola.
As the case maybe, I have recently come to the opinion that Nigeria* is a scam.and a sham. That is until we ourselves correct the errors in its creation though restructuring, with a new constitution that is properly adopted by referendum and/or ratification - and not dropped from "heaven" like the 1999 document. And, whereby we implement political, economic and cultural decentralization.
He literally quotes that in the next video and that all independent countries in Africa are a “scam and a sham”- much of what you’re stating is aligning with his thoughts! You’ll enjoy!
Do you think Nigeria should split into two separate countries?
As we already want to do away with these fake borders, it makes little sense to create additional ones.
No one is breaking up and floating into the Atlantic. One way or the other Africans (and Black peoples) must find a way to live and work together.
Wehave little choice... else with the way technology is going - I fear in another 50- 100 years, we will be enslaved anew.
I am with this brother on soooo many levels. He literally took many of his explanations like right out of my mouth. I tell people often about how the Benin Kingdom was invaded and no one came to their rescue. Even when technically, the Alafin (king) of the Oyo empire, the Oba of Lagos, and the Ooni of Ife supposedly all come from the same royal family (the Yorubas have a different perspective from the Benins on who the head of this family is 😁).
Howevet, I go a bit further on how the British were able to pick us off one by one... I believe the reason we wanted nothing to do with one another was because of slavery. Historically that was literally the only contact we had with one another - slave raids and slave-wars. As such, the stranger was a terrorist as far as our ancient peoples were probably concerned. And, you did't go wandering into another kingdom for trade or to see your girlfriend, if you ever wanted to see your homeland again.
Also, his take on the single currency argument is another than we share.
Now, with ALL his talk about South Africa (SAF), I am honestly very disappointed he didn't even mention Julius Malema and the EFF. Like how??? Everything he says about SAF, from xenophobia to the land and their economic history is the exact thing Julius Malema says. Hence the popular refrain "LAND EXPROPRIATION WITHOUT COMPENSATION." (I think that's the terminology 😁)
And in any case this man should go attach himself to an upstart party like Sowore's AAC, and become their equivalent of EFF's Ndlozi or even DP Shivambo 😁. Or, he himself bring together like minds and lets get THIS PARTY STARTED!!!
He definitely needs to become politically aligned!!! He has everything it takes. I don’t know anything about the EFF. Running to learn now! 😵💫😵💫😵💫😵💫😵💫
@@BrittneyCaldwell yall don't know julias male a like we do.
Yall be easily fooled by him.... We live him here we know him better... You see short clips of him.
He's not what he seems to be, he's not even getting 8% of the vote, there are reasons why! We know him better
We have to de-colonize every sector of our being
That part 💯💯💯💯
Gosh! I don't want to leave 101 comments... but oh well 😁. I am about halfway thu, and I think his perspective on the subsidies with respect to the refineries is a little ootimisitc. It now somewhat clear to me, that the only reason subsidies now have been removed is likely due to the completion of the Dangote refinery. And, I believe that refinery has capacity to serve Naija and several neighboring countries. If I am remotely correct then two things: (1) you can forget those refineries. They may as well sell them for scrap. (2) Dangote either was involved directly with fuel importation or he knows the people involved, and they are now his business partners.
I wonder if identifying the ships importing fuel btw Lagos and PH, and then seeing who owns the ships, and who contracted with them, will help to expose these fuel barons?
This would definitely make a difference I believe! I also think adding more ports would assist with corruption as well. Hmmmmmm
I applaud your attempt at politics Sis...keep studying and you'll become effective. Most Africans have been taught english but don't actually understand context or etymology of the language though I must admit neither do African A's . But I won't teach here because your channel is not really about politics. I have learned much about Africa through your travels and I thank you for that.
my channel is about everything and I am working on bringing politics, culture, and recreation! Truly making this a channel about life period. thanks for contributing and English is a very deep subject many "english speakers" don't understand LOL
@BrittneyCaldwell I am sure those that spoke other European languages ,would probably spoken similar regarding their preferred language
You need to meet more Africans and Black Americans.
This woman should be removed from our country.
If you book my flight and make it first class I will go!!! But I gotta come back tho 😂 my house is here babe! 😂😂😂😂
Why?? She is bringing exposure and inviting many people around the world to experience Nigeria?
What, U Skeeerrrrddd of what is! Stop it! Keep it mov'n!
See what I am saying Britt... you are just getting started. Keep pushing! And... us too.
Also, we reject all enemies of progress, like this commenter!!!
