    Cycling with ear pieces or headphones while cycling is illegal in Spain as it is with driving and cycling in France.

    Anthony and Sarah, here’s a comment that shouldn’t bother you too much, I love your podcast and also your accents! Anthony the first time I saw one of your videos it was an interview with Geneviève Jeanson and it was wonderful. I’m also French Canadian and did follow the drama back in the day with her coach and teammates and the doping scandal and the interview was so eye opening. I have a whole new respect for Geneviève now and was so glad to hear that she and Lyne Bessette are best of friends now. Anyway thanks again for your podcast and take care.

    Segment hunting ruins your cycling, you'll drift into doing local rides only & short to medium rides only. Segment hunters will stop doing longer rides (or never start em)

    • @tommyrq180
      @tommyrq180 2 місяці тому

      Uh, no. I do my segment hunting on very long rides. Hammer the section, Z2 the rest of the 100+ mile ride. Everyone is different. It’s a real intimidation factor when you beat someone’s KOM while doing a very, very long ride. There’s more to KOMs than just KOMs. I do some of them on my Brompton just for the intimidation factor. My Brompton is a hammer machine and it leaves me with some cushion to come back if someone steals the Brompton KOM. Again, we’re all very different and don’t conform to your imagination of what riders do. ☮️

    Where on Earth did car up/car down come from. It's always been "nose" for oncoming traffic and "tail" for traffic coming up from behind. Is it newbies who have conjured up car up/car down?

    • @GummeeH3
      @GummeeH3 2 місяці тому +3

      maybe where you are, but everywhere in the US I've ridden it's 'car up' (why you need a warning for a car coming is beyond me) and 'car back.'

    Cool, first time I've heard someone serious into cycling, also getting into walking. I have (2) athletic dogs, so split my time, average 8-10 hrs / wk walking/hiking and 6-8 hrs / wk riding. Good info on the vitamins as well, which I will try.
    As a long-time Strava user, I know you can trim your ride, which is sometimes a good thing, but not sure how you would trim only a segment, unless you have a very long segment, in which case a second here or there is not a big deal. now if your entire ride is a 5 minute segment, where you trimmed off a couple of seconds, then it's pretty obvious what your aim was. Lastly, there are differences in the gps devices and the uploads. If you compare enough to other riders, you will see Strava can show inaccuracies when it comes to start and finish......you might be 10 seconds down/or up within the first 30 seconds and you know that's just not possible, if you know your competition.

    Thanks for the zone training info. At 58, this isn't something I'd considered...
    I'm like you with regards to Strava, too much drama. I cycle to leave my worries behind.
    I'm quite satisfied merely tracking my own data and achieving PR's (if I'm felling it).

    That comment was mean or insensitive. Thank you for this episode. I have been struggling with not letting my ego push me out of Zone2 rides, and it happens too often that I decide to chase someone or go up a climb at a higher pace that suitable for zone 2

    I did many Ironmans, and an Ultraman at decent speeds at average HR probably around 130. Also ran 100 miles with a HR cap of 128 bpm. It really works. Lots of people been doing it for decades. Low HR allows you to get in more volume without injury = more training frequency.

    As a hypertrophy/bodybuilding training pt watching this. When it comes to "protein in-take bring hard" get yourselves some collageen (not peptide) or isolate protein. That has around 90% egg white protein. And is less thick as lesser whey products.
    If you add a scoop at around 60gr to a mixture of grounded oats and grounded rice powder. You easily get in fibres, 110gr protein and complex carbs. Drinks away pretty easily.

    I used to walk six hours a week and while it was good for reducing my anxiety it was also pretty boring to see the same streets day after day. I'm starting to walk again for the sorts of reasons mentioned in this episode, but I will likely start riding on the bike for a bit to get to new places in order to introduce some variety to my walks.

    Here in BATHURST NSW Australia we call
    "Car up" if there are oncoming and "Car Back" if there is a car following... Reverse to how you go Up your bum and Down your throat .. Also with holes . In a group, the rider on left calls Hole Left, as in to the left of them . The rider on right calls hole right , right of them . Hole between the two riders is Hole Middle .. seems to work,

    Strava KOMs aren't to be taken seriously. Too many factors. Did the KOM sit in a group for most of the segment and then sprint out for the last 100m and take the KOM? Did the KOM wait for a day when there was a 20mph tail wind? Was the KOM on an e-bike? Use Strava the way I use it if you want to be happy. I use it only to mark my best times. I only compete against myself. And if I do take a KOM, it's always, always, always by myself. But there's always going to be someone faster than you, so why worry about it? Just compete against yourself, and enjoy riding your bike.
    As to the zone 1 training (using a polarized three zone model), I do all of that training by myself. You're not going to find many riders who can put their egos away and train properly, so it's not worth your time looking. Plus, even if I do find someone who wants to train that way, what are the odds that their zone 1 and mine are nearly identical? Your training is a personal thing, and it benefits your health, so don't worry about what others think and just do it.

    I was stunned to find I was KOM of a particular leg. Then I realized I just had forgotten to turn off my heart rate monitor and had driven home with it on. I Don't know enough about strava to figure out how to delete that section. I hope strava's algorithm figures out that I can't do 35 miles an hour.
