  • Join Joe Pike, Chef Barcley and Leo as they venture to the Lizard Point of Cornwall to go spearfishing. The tides were strong and the waters rough but we managed to find plenty of food for supper and breakfast.

    I am lucky enough to live by a cove not far from where you camped. The East side of the Lizard is my local playground. I often dive from a surfski of Lizard Point but you need to know these waters well to get the best from them.

      @Joe Pk Joe, I gotta say, you and Daniel Mann are our heroes. My first experience is when I snorkeled and shot fish in Destin two years ago. I live in Little Rock Arkansas so salt water is 9 hrs from here. I now have my son involved (I am 54 and he’s 30). Great bonding. We can spearfish lakes, but they just sit there and wait for death. We are brand new to the sport, so watching guys like you and DM is inspiring. We really really liked the 5 best things you think helped you. So whenever you show new tricks, tips, info, we lap it up. It’s important to us. No joking. Important. Please keep helping us. Also, introduce the people in your vids and people enjoy getting to know your family. Thanks again, JP. You are appreciated.

    just loved your videos Joe....Amazing...I am away from Cornwall at the moment and you have no idea your video makes me smile this morning...Many thanks for that...I have a quick question if you dont mind...How deep you spearfish the seabass and the mullet? I go around 15 meter but my apnea duriation is about 45 seconds to 1 minute. I just wanted to see what's the spearfishing dept/apnea time in Cornwall waters :) I will appreciate with your replay...By the way, if you guys live in Cornwall, we can catch up when I get there...Looking forward to hearing from you soon. All the best, Dev

    Brilliant mate. I would love to do this one day. I'm going to have a look through your channel. Do you spear fish close to shore often? Also I am going to check but can you spear fish in fresh water in UK? I camped for 3months at maker heights 9 year ago. Had a great time. Need to go back at some point.

    • @JoePkSpearfishing
      @JoePkSpearfishing  4 роки тому +1

    Even though there is loads of swell there is still good visibility under water, can that often happen? How do you predict when there will be good viz?

    • @JoePkSpearfishing
      @JoePkSpearfishing  5 років тому +1

      We are far enough out to sea so the swell doesn't matter so much. The bottom is clean, mainly rocky and sandy rather than clay/mud. So even inshore with big swell there is some vis. The visibility here is a lot worse than normal because of the large tidal coefficient, I think it was 90ish, the range of the tide has a great impact on the vis as well as swell. Sorry this is probably quite a bad answer...

    Newbie question for you Joe. How many dives should you say you make on a trip before success, on average? Thx

    • @JoePkSpearfishing
      @JoePkSpearfishing  5 років тому

      Good question. For me, I have become quite tuned in on the various habitats around just by spending lots of time in the water. So I find it easier to identify areas that will hold particular fish at particular times. So my dives can be quite efficient now and first dive I often find what I’m looking for. I remember starting out I would spend 5 maybe 6 hours to find the fish though
