Hi, very useful video, thanks. The bass you play in the first bit of the video full speed is a different bass (the correct bass) Ab Gb at end of phrase and with the run through you've changed it to Bb Ab. I think the Ab Gb are correct. Useful anyway to get the RH voicings, thank you
Great tutorial! In the intro of the video you play Ab and F# in the left hand for the last 2 chords. When you break it down this becomes Bb Ab. I think it should be the first, the way you play it in the intro.
great vid! thanks :) any chance for Limit to your love (James Blake version)? especially the variations and little break down..basically everything other than the main riff (that is the part i'm having trouble with). thanks!
Thanks, you have shorten the learnin curve of this song. If you continue to do tutorials I will be back!! ONLY ONE THING WHAT KEY IS THE SONG IN PLEASE TO ALL TUTORIALS GIVE US THE KEY IT IS IN!
+dippster357 they way i think is the first 4 steps are in Eb harmonic min, fifth step is in Bb harmonic min, and sixth chord is in G# harmonic minor i mean these chords are fitting in those places, i didnt check their relation in natural minor
That's a nice song, just listening to it now. It's now hard though, just major and minor chords, not even sevenths. There are only 12 major chords, and 12 minor chords, so why not just try to find the first chord, (try all 24 chords until you find the one, probably after 6 or 7 tries). Then do the same for the next. That's the real skill, when you can do it on your own for every song. 'Maybe' by NERD is a good level to start on too
This is a really great tutorial; congrats. Just one thing, if you listen really closely you can hear that the bass line changes quite a bit so is sometimes: B(flat) B(flat) B(flat) B(flat) E(flat) B(flat) A(flat) And then other times it's: B(flat) B(flat) B(flat) B(flat) A(flat) A(flat) A(flat) or my personal favourite: B(flat) B(flat) B(flat) B(flat) A(flat) A(flat) G(flat)
It doesn't sound to me like the bass line changes except for the bridge. It's consistently Db (two eighth notes starting on beat 1) Eb ("and" of 2) Eb (two eighth notes starting on the "and" of 3) Bb (on 1 of 2nd bar) Bb (on 2) Ab (on "and" of 2). The keyboard's left hand sounds like it's playing B(flat) B(flat) B(flat) B(flat) E(flat) ** A(flat) Gb(flat) the whole song (as far as I can tell). I bet you a million bucks haha. it goes against logic and theory but that's what it sounds like.
I think you're missing some of the tension in the chords. I hear the left hand as Bb -----Eb Ab Gb (where you are showing Bb ----Eb Bb Ab) ... Try it with the left hand I suggested and notice how it gives the tension that I hear on Justin's version that I don't hear on yours. Also - I saw people asking for the bridge - here it is (I'll name these as simple chords over a different bass - which gives you the proper voicing - rather than the more complex name of the actual chord OK? when I say "over E" that means E in the left hand) Dmaj7 over E to Dbmin7 over A (repeat) Cmaj7 over D to Bmin7 over G (repeat) then back to the song. Hope that helps someone.
Ya, if you listen to the intro you can hear the bass line outlined pretty clearly in the left hand of the keys. It's definitely Bb ---- Eb Ab Gb. Which would make the last two chords both sus. Really beautiful chords, really beautiful progression.
Please could u do a tutorial on a very easy piece of jazz funk music . Summer Madness by Kool and The Gang . I think it only has three chords but the potential to play around wiv them is huge
Could you please do a tutorial on extended chords such as the ones in this video. Anything beyond 7th chords is at times confusing such diminished ,augmented etc
Actually I don't know for sure, I just know Pharrel's sound and I thought they were just his style. I could be wrong though. Maybe he wrote everything else, I'm pretty certain he's the one playing drums at least
Bass is wrong. First note should be Db then Eb Bb and Ab like you have it. At least that's what electric bass is playing. So I assume piano would follow.

Mega colourful chords in this tune.
Actually I don't know for sure, I just know Pharrel's sound and I thought they were just his style. I could be wrong though. Maybe he wrote everything else, I'm pretty certain he's the one playing drums at least
My ear hears the bassline in his song as B flat, E flat, A flat, G flat.
agreed^^^ bass is definitely Ab Gb in the intro and not Bb Ab as mentioned in the video.....but thanks anyway!

Listen through just to the bassline it does change; just occasionally. It also does repeated quavers sometimes randomly!
