As these words shatter across the Gelredome arena in Arnhem, ten-thousands of hardstyle fans are filled with wonder. It’s the opening track to Willem’s set at Qlimax 2009, and it’s turned into one of his greatest hits. ‘Psychedelic’ even won ‘Best Track’ at the Hard Dance Awards, and for good reason.
Willem: “I made ‘Psychedelic’ in the week before Qlimax. We had a briefing about the show’s theme, ‘The Nature of our Mind’, and that also had a bit of a psychedelic approach. So I started watching documentaries about LSD, found a sample and used it in this record, as an opener to my set. That’s exactly why it has this grandeur to it - it hits in, in a certain way.”
