Thank you all for your questions! We tried to get to as many as we could without making the video too long. 🤗💜 Question for you, what advice would you give your younger selves?
Can you guys record a sound clip of Phil saying “I like cheeseburgers” and inserting that in future videos when he eats cheeseburgers (or any funny food) it is hilarious. Love the videos and great work :) Hello from Florida
I'm a German-born Australian (I've lived here for nearly 40 years), and as you guys have said, every country has it's pros and cons. Australia is no exception. Pros - good weather, it's safe, it's a first world country so the standard of living is high, unemployment is (usually) low, it has English as it's primary language therefore no language problems for you two. Cons - while our standard of living is high, the cost of living is as well, especially in the big cities like Sydney, Melbourne or Brisbane; natural disasters are frequent (although that depends on where in the country you live); our social security system is average at best; and migrating here is difficult and expensive, especially if you have no ties to the country (family that lives here, a job transfer from your employer etc).
I like Phil's advice about learning a new language - immersing oneself in good shows and living in a country where the target language is spoken. I am hoping to improve my German - any suggestions of a good show to watch (maybe even on UA-cam?) to hear authentic German?
Maybe other people would have better suggestions for authentic German! I've started watching Deutchland 83. It's on Amazon Prime. Phil doesn't really watch any current German TV shows. Everyone keeps recommending the show Dark on Netflix too.
What Deanna said and also you can just watch any movie in german.. because voice acting in germany is done so well, besides some weird translation now and then, it will be like your favourite english speaking actors/actresses suddenly speak german.. it’s often done really immersive.. wouldn‘t recommend How i met your mother in german tho.. the translation is so bad, it kinda hurts to watch if you know the original.. 😄
I'm in a ldr with my boyfriend who is German. I'm American. I'm hoping to meet him soon, and your videos are something that I like to watch due to you being an American and German couple. :))
Deana and Phil, I absolutely love watching your videos. I'm from the US & my boyfriend is from Germany, and we started watching your videos when we first started dating (1.5yrs ago). I think your videos really helped bring us closer together, especially in tough times like these were we're stuck in home countries, unable to see each other. But we are still staying strong, knowing that one day we'll be together again. You two have a happy, healthy life & stay safe out there ❤
Great video, Deana and Phil! I was able to (finally!) reunite with my German partner in the DUS area a couple of weeks ago through the unmarried partner exemption. Our two weeks together flew by, but we enjoyed every second 💖 You guys give me hope that one day we won't need to go back and forth anymore. We didn't manage to get around to a Nordsee, but the few times we passed one I pointed it out and told him we had to next visit. Always cool to learn more about you both, thanks for answering some of my questions 😊
Ahhh that's so great that you guys were able to see each other! That time really does fly by! Hahaha well Nordsee can be on your things to try next time!! 🤗💜
I am from Nürnberg Germany and my husband is from Greenville SC too. How funny ! You must know about "The clock" chicken tenders & honey mustard in Greenville. Yum !!!
I'd like to hear from Phil about the differences in certain German States and what other Germans think about Bavaria. Certain Actors like Diane Kruger talk about Bavaria like it's the twilight zone. In my opinion I think Bavaria is the top tourist attraction in Germany 🇩🇪.
Phil should DEFINITELY get a halfsleeve. Those upper arms look like the perfect canvas for a tattoo artist. You should just research the best german tattoo artists and their personal style. If their style appeals to you, then ask them for a freestyle tattoo that would showcase *your love of travel* ... You can make an appointment in order to see their ideas and basic sketches. And take it from there. If it's done by someone that's known for a specific style, you could end up getting a tattoo that makes other tattoo artists around the world notice it and say: "hey, is that a * * * * * tattoo ? Yeah, I recognized it"
Discovered you two a few days ago and have been binging since. You have great energy and your videos bring a lot of positive nostalgia into my life - I grew up between Österreich and Poland. Have you considered more vloggy content? Grüße aus England!
Fulfill- ful Phil Yikes ! Deana your eye roll was well deserved, why do I get the feeling (or Philing) that he makes puns all the time? I bet one day his "Dad jokes will be awesome !
I kind of feel sorry for Phil with his Chipotle burrito. Maybe they should consider a trip to San Francisco and take one from El Farolito (which was my favorite so far). If you want it (a bit) closer nearby, visit Kopenhagen and go to "A Slice of San Francisco", they have really good burritos, and they have the best American Cheesecake ever, so Deana will also be very(!) happy. When you have finally visited Hamburg, and decided that it is much better than Berlin: A train ride to Kopenhagen is something you can easily do on a weekend, quite cheap.
It doesnt matter if your grammar is wrong when you speak. Just say it in some kind of way. The other person has to answer your question with using kinda the same words so that you hear the pronounciation and grammar. They should never correct you right away, cuz that makes you feel like you dont know the language and that you are bad at it. Just speak as much as you can and you will get better at it eventually
Get tattoos related to your travels. My sister does that ( military family they were actually Stationed in Heidelberg for 4 yrs) but has been to Hawaii, New Zealand, Ireland and so on and got little tattoos in each place ( many of the locations had their own very specific style tattoos)
Two different cities but with same spirit. Old Roman cities with a lot history, wine, open minded, both university cities, "Fasnacht Tradition" love to celebrate beer and wine Festivals....
My husband and I live in N.C. Now and are both American. However, my husbands parents are from Germany and he took 4 years of the language in high school. He’s trying to teach me for the past 6 yrs. Deanna, you’re doing so well with your German and Phil (and Deanna), you make me laugh! Love your utube videos. You guys are great! Thinking about retiring to Bavaria, any year now. Wish us luck, I’ll especially need it if we go. Lol
I think if you plan to get a tattoo it should be something that means a lot to you. Also, if you don't already have one I'd love to see Deanna make Phil a whole Thanksgiving dinner & then all the trying 🤩 You both seem to be doing well🥰 I'm glad.
I am addicted to your videos! Since Phil likes burritos so much, did you try Crazy Nate’s in Nuremberg? Good stuff! I can get you flaming hot Cheetos too if we were to ever meet!
You guys have inspired so many new Amazon food purchases. And taught me about foods I'd never heard of before (onigiri). Re: cars. Japan still makes the world's most reliable cars, so that's what we drive. Get a Prius. "They're great for sneaking up on motherf%#^&rs." (Don't get a plug-in, the battery is so huge there's no room for Pfandflaschen!)
Hi, guys well I am a german living in Australia with my Ozzy wife ;) So you would like to live in Downunder let me know if you come over for a visit and I will give you some tips. :)
Deanna, I hear you on the sentence structure. I've been taking lessons for 5 years and can understand enough to get by when traveling for the most part, but the sentence structure is very challenging. I'm getting better, but it is just different and often times when learning a language you compare it to what you know, and there just isn't a comparison when it comes to structure. I've been using Duolingo, but I think you were using Lingoda? Do you find that helpful, or more exposure in real life to the language, for you?
Ohh I've been using Duolingo too! I really like that they have a daily streak. It makes me practice every day. I think the in person learning and hearing it has been the best for me. The first few visits to Germany when I was just a tourist I was absorbing a lot of vocab I didn't realize. I have a LONGGGGG way to go but that's where I am at the moment. 😅
@@DeanaandPhil Daily streak and also the stories! I've completed just about all of the awards on it and have found that if you are trying to get to the top of Diamond league, wait as long as you can to start new weeks (at the beginning of the week) as those that rush to start get put in groups with those who have massive and unrealistic points. I notice you never talk about your ethnicities. Do you have favorite traditions, holidays, foods, habits, languages, etc. due to your ethnicity? You present yourselves as a plain American or German but both countries have a lot of diversity. Celebrate them!
It felt so strange that you guys like Australia so much. I see a lot of young Germans come here for adventure like sunshine, beaches and the outback to escape from your winter season. Occasionally, I see some exchange students, but the tuition fee are 10 times the cost of going to a German University. But I believe you guys might get a little disappointed if you come here for living. The first hurdle to overcome with is the VISA, Australia is just not a foreigner friendly country, (the only exception is that the New Zealanders have better VISA entitlements). Things like Jobkeeper and Jobseeker funds are only for the locals. And without proper income it is very expensive to live in Australia. Aber, ich wünsche, dass ich in der Zukunft Deutschland leben kann. Wir haben noch lockdown in Melbourne.
