The fans here in Cleveland know very well that the owner messed around with Stefanski’s offense to give Watson a better chance at success. Then they made Stefanski play Watson when he was clearly the worst QB in the league. It’s all about the owner and he is a major problem. Unfortunately, you can’t fire the owner.

All great points. However, most fans won't exercise what little power they have..which is to stop supporting the team in order to protest disastrous team ownership. These owners know the fans are too loyal to do anything about it. So most of the time, nothing ever changes.

Stefanski was put in a no win scenario this year. Either he DID believe in Watson this whole time, in which case he deserves to be fired. Or he DIDNT and Haslem wouldnt let him bench Watson and/or forced Watson on him in the first place, nuking the team's cao structure in the process, and he's gonna be the scapegoat anyways.
And ive seen stefanski coach with a competent QB. Hes a good coach. Which is why (along with the entire history of Haslem's ownership tenure) im inclined to believe its option 2

@@MS-1 Stefanski got the Browns to respectability when he had a QB in Baker that he could build an offense around. The GM had assembled a roster that the media fell in love with. Year after year it was supposed to be the Browns year. I think that Tomlin and the Steelers have a losing record against Stefanski even though it took Baker years to surpass Big Ben's win total in Cleveland - either way the Browns had taken a big step up.
Whose idea was the Watson move? I think the fact that no heads have rolled yet is a tell. Seems that like the Jets (Just End The Season) the ownership is why the Browns is still the Browns.

are we really gonna sit here and try to blame Stefanski for Deshaun Watson?
going out and giving an unprecedented fully guaranteed contract to a guy who has 24 lawsuits against him and a suspension pending IS NOT A COACHING DECISION, THAT'S OWNERSHIP.... so when an OWNER mandates a decision like that, then whether that player starts or not ALSO IS NOT THE COACHES DECISION.... you could see it on Stefanski's face every week he had to re-confirm Watson was starting, he looked miserable and clearly wanted nothing to do with the situation that ownership forced upon the team

These guys… if a head coach gets fired, the GM can stay… if a GM gets fired the head coach is almost always gonna be fired as well…
The Browns biggest issue is depodesat. All of the bad decisions can be traced back to Depodesta and his “vision” of the Browns… how he tries to acquire talent rather than draft and build a team for the long term, the way he tries to find a needle in a haystack instead of just finding guys that have proven themselves to be good ball players… it’s all got Depodesta written all over it…
It’s also clear that ownership and Depodesta pushed the DW saga, berry and stefanski have to go with it… it was also obvious when they went 11-6 and fired their OC to bring in a guy specifically to help Watson… it was also obvious when they made the trade bc Depodesta has made comments about finding “proven” guys over drafting and developing guys… it’s also obvious when you look at how they sold their soul to make the contract work bc Depodesta has made it clear that he believes in going all in for a short window rather than building a foundation that’s competitive year in and year out…

Berry’s answer about Watson was what he had to say. What is telling though is after the 2021 season when baker was hurt along with the entire offense and it was a disappointing season. Both Berry and Stefanski publicly strongly endorsed baker mayfield as the starting qb moving forward.
The next thing you know Mary Kay said “I hear they want an adult at the position” after baker humiliated her earlier in the year for asking a genuinely dumb question. She obviously had ownership’s ear and wanted them to replace baker with Watson. She was gushing about them being all in on Watson. This is the same ownership that not long before all of this spent a million dollars for a study of QBs in the draft. The study said draft Bridgewater. The GM wanted to draft Bridgewater. The head coach wanted to draft Bridgewater. Some random homeless person wanted to draft Manziel. Ownership pulled rank and the team drafted Manziel.
I have no doubt that Mary Kay was in ownerships ear over the qb decision. The woods decision and the rest of the offensive coaches that were scapegoats were solely ownership decisions.

The first time depodesta got his guys were Stefanski and Berry. The only real questionable thing depodesta did was contribute to the firing of Dorsey. I don't think public equity will put more pressure on management to change the bad decision makers. Like most business they will run try to maximize profits by cutting costs and overcharging for the same services. Why fire a coach if it means I have to pay this one and another one. What I think will happen is younger cheaper coaches will get more opportunity and maybe some more time to develop that will lead to success or the wasting of talent. It's a joke. It's rigged! It's the good ole boys club! It's either incompetence or intentional sabotage. I am done with sports. It's not who I am. It shouldn't be that important.

Stefanski is the problem, first it was Bakers fault, then Watson followed by Winston. Who's next???

  • @CaseyLynn-i7u
    @CaseyLynn-i7u 2 місяці тому

Florio sometimes isn't even a good troll. At the space in time only a handful of teams wouldn't have wanted Watson even with everything around him. As I've said countless times "You can always see the future after it happens." Now it's a nightmare then it wasn't. I wouldn't have never gone it. Watson was great at putting up empty stats that look better than his play in big games and in the playoffs. Tam down 30-0. Sweet I'll pile up stats now getting 300+ yards and 4 TD but lose 40-28. That was Watson last good year.

Stefanski getting canned and it’s not even his fault. Offense seems a lot better when the creeper isn’t behind center

Mike is always trying to blame this on the owner and let Stefanski off the hook. That is ludicrous! Usually, analysts, fans, coaches and front office want owners to spend MORE money. The owners spent a record setting amount of money and Florio thinks the owner is at fault because for spending a record setting amount of money?!?!?
