The Great Horned Owl (Neobubo virginianus), also known as the nearctic eagle owl is a species of true owl native only to North America, it is one of the largest owls alive today and one of the two extant species of the genus Neobubo (New World Horned Owls), the other being the Lesser Horned Owl (Neobubo magellanicus), which is also known as the neotropical eagle owl.
