Excellent documentary. I grew up on the Peabody estate next to King's Scholars Passage and was always fascinated by the Tatchbrook. Thanks for posting. 👍
Fascinating video. Learned a lot about the area from your previous posts, like the origins of Victoria stn. I grew up in the area in the '60's, Carlisle Place. Parents shopped in Tachbrook St at the weekends. Loved the smell of fresh ground coffee at WH Cullen grocery store. Peabody estate at south end of Carlisle Place. The bicycle/toy shop in Tachbrook St, was still trading and looking exactly the same in the 2010's, after 50 years. Run by the son of the original owner, my age now!
When St Katherine's dock was dredged, they transported all the soil by barge to Pimlico where it was dumped in order to raise the level of the land and make it less marshy so it could be built upon.
Pimlico has the only Victoria Line station that does not connect with another tube , overground or national rail station, and with the 24 Bus the only central london bus terminus that is not shared with another route of any red bus kind.
The area has some problem westminster council flats. 1) Churchill Gardens - Heating Systems may need replacing , after being designed to be heated from Battersea Power Station the Closure of that created problems needing replacement boliers, that are now time expired. 2) the "red brick" - using bricks from an old and substantial church , near Vauxhall Bridge Road, are likewise in need of new heating and waste pipe systems , in my opinion this is one block that should be demolished and something new built -- it doesnt propertly connect to the adjoining areas and the flats, even though only a 1950s if that build are time expired (normally I would say refurbish but not in this case)
I was born in claverton Street in the mid 50s moved over the road to Churchill Gardens ( Whitley House ) when it was complete.

Glad you enjoyed it!
I watched Passport To Pimlico on TV in the mid-90s. Great movie.
Fascinating series, really interesting 😊
Glad you think so!

Glad you enjoyed it. I’ll try to do another one with the twentieth century history - more Peabody!

No mention of the temporary Pimlico terminus, replaced by Victoria?
There’s a lot to cover in 10 minutes. Also the temporary 1890s bridge over the Thames opposite the prison/Tate and the whole of the 20th century!
Good stuff - subscribed 👍
Welcome aboard!
The film came out in 1949.
I had to use subtitles not be driven nuts by your irritating voice delivery. Try listening back and I am sure you can correct this.
That’s nice of you to point out
