Just love how your not expecting much out of him as he is a young horse. If only there more owners out there like you that took the time realize a 3 year old horse can't everything an 8 year old can do.
Exactly! It's like asking a kindergartener to do 6th grade algebra. I love the way that Shelby works with her horses, you can see in the way they act that they are so well taken care of and educated with patience and understanding. I hope I can be as good of a horse person as her one day.
Wow, what a cutie. Archie seems like such an easy going guy. Also, I'd like to add that I honestly appreciate the fact that you let Archie be a horse in his younger years. I know one too many people that start jumping their horses at like 2-3 and that just doesn't seem right to me. I'm glad Archie got to grow up and be a baby before getting into more serious training. Definitely need more people like Shelby in the world.
"starting them" as a 2-3 year old can be okay, depending on the horse, but working them at that age is just stupid. A 3 year old should if anything just have a rider on for short periods of time (20-40minutes) of just goofing around in the forest or paddock and having fun once or twice a week, most preferably in a halter to reinforce that as a bonding confidence building experience and not work. Then at 4 years old you can start starting them more in the regular sense, start riding them more often and teaching them stuff, asking a little from them ect
@@bqualitysnake6549 Even four sounds weird to me, jesus in the uk it is normal that horses aren't started untill like 6 and 7. I would personally start backing a horse at 4 and starting to work him at 5, but that's just my opinion and it depends on how the horse is growing still
@@noctesrebellionem212 Exactly,, you guys understand that a horse isn't fully developed structurally until its at least 6 years of age.. Look at all those Olympic show jumping horses that jump 6ft jumps. These horses are all 10 years old to 15 years old. People need to have patience with these beautiful animals. If Shelby wants to jump and do cross country or whatever, buy an older horse.
You have done such a fantastic job with him Shelby! It honestly blows my mind to see what a cool customer he is! Very little seems to phase him and his brain makes him a very special horse. I'm excited to continue to watch the two of you continue to grow as a team! :)
Shelby, you have a beautiful way of telling a story. You’re a wonderful rider, your equitation is almost too perfect. When the time is right, so looking forward to seeing this lovely horse over a few fences. His relationship with Molo is so sweet, I would hate to see them separated.
I love it when you find those one in a million ottb's I'm currently leasing a 13yr old ottb gelding who is so calm and gentle. I'm only an intermediate rider and I'm able to trot him around without him getting fast or having to worry about him spooking or being hot. He was actually his owners first horse who they bought sight unseen as a green ottb!! He pretty much is exactly the same nature as Archie but in an older body it's my first time riding an ottb and I say if everyone who didn't like them because they think there all hot and spooky I'd say just come and look at my guy and youll change your opinion on that
Shelby, I think you are one of the nicest persons I've ever seen around horses. I wrote on another video of yours about Heart Horse. I had my heart horse. She was a rescue I got in June of 2005. The first time I saw her was when she arrived. It was love at first sight. I brushed her everyday and spent time sitting in her pasture just enjoying the sound of her eating. She had second stage navicular and could only be ridden at a walk. I didn't care. I loved her so much. We trusted each other as best friends. I made a bet with another person that she would followe me into the viewing room of the indoor arena, and follow me out with no trouble. It was the easiest ten dollars I ever made. Things we're going great with her. She was fearless and never spooked, ever. She loved her threats called nicker-makers, and she could not be brushed long enough. Sometimes, I would take her for a walk with me walking by her side, and she always checked my pockets for treats. Oh how I loved her. Sadly, she coliced very badly on October 31, 2011. She took a piece of my heart with her when she died. When I saw the title "Heart Horse," on your other video, I instantly knew what is was going to be about. I cannot tell you how much it impacted me, and how much I appreciate that video. I have been unable to find another horse. I feel like I'm still looking for Lexie. It's been seven years and I just feel down and still missing my best friend. Thanks for listening. 💕
My OTTB Ace was very similar when I started him six months ago (he was seven when he got off the track, so we were able to start training not long after we fattened him up a bit because he was such a skinny baby). He was a little more wild than Archie though, so I haven't started any bareback or bridleless work on him yet, but I'm hoping to do that over this upcoming summer, when I can be at the barn more often. Your story is so very inspiring to me as a beginner OTTB trainer, thanks for showing us all your progress, and I can't wait to see how Archie does in the future!
This is beautiful! Love seeing how far you guys have come, and how calm he has been for everything that you have thrown at him. I looooove the relationship Archie and Milo have!
I love Archie, he is such a sweet and gentle natured horse and I'm so excited to see him blossoming into a riding horse! I wish my horse was as sweet and calm matured as Archie is!
Um, sorry to say, but you've made a mistake in the video. At 2:26 there should be "MOVE BITCH GET OUTTA DA WAY" blasting at full volume xD Glad you had a happy year with Archie. Give the blond gentleman a big hug from me :)
Thoroughbreds are great horses! I always wonder why people think they make bad riding horses, especialy off-track horses. Many racehorses I know are near bomb-proof. They can handle barking dogs, screaming children, large crowds of people, cars, trucks, all kinds of barn stuff, umbrellas, sirenes, big screens and adverts, plastic bags, ectect. They also love to learn and develop a deep connection to their handler. I´m very happy you´ve got such a great example of an ex racehorse with Archie to show to the world!
I knew from the first picture you posted of Archie that he was so special- I’m so excited to adopt a Ottb or rescue when I finally get out of college (8 more years- ugh). I love following your journey and seeing how far you and milo have come, it makes my day to see such an amazing person and rider with her cute ponies that she has shaped with love and kindness :)
Love this. You're a beautiful rider to watch and have done things so correct with him. I really enjoyed this video. Do you use a microphone to record your voice or did you pull it strait off of a camera? Sounds very clear and I was interested in what you used to record it.
What a great horse and story! So glad you are doing it “old school” by not jumping him until he is four years old. Glad that your horse Milo now has his buddy Archie. 🙂🇺🇸
What a wonderful owner you are.... and I love the fact that you recognize that a 3 or 4 yr old is still a baby 😊😊 Also loooove how Milo seems to always have something in his mouth.... just an overgrown labrador retriever.. lol..
I think you`re an amazing rider and it`s lovely to see how much time you`re giving him. It`s crazy to think that he already had to race twice whenever he was only 2 years old
I never thought I would own an OTTB because of the stereotype. I have one, an OTTB mare(mares get a bad rap as well) and never knew how wrong those stereotypes are. She is amazing. She has a good head on her. Absolutely awesome.
I find it so crazy that I also got my horse October 1st of last year, and their personalities are pretty much exact??? and they have the same color/markings? My noodle is 14 though, but thats pretty much their biggest difference. So glad to see how far he's come
Awh! Milo is adorable. I love his goofy, dorky personality lol. xD This is a beautiful story and you guys are so lucky to have found eachother. I recently found your channel not too long ago and I gotta say you seem like a pretty chill person! That helmet parody video you made was fantastic.😂 Subbed. Keep up the great work!
That’s so cute! I have an idea about why he’s so calm, maybe. What if he’s so calm because, to him, the racetrack was scary? So when you got him, it was so calm and quiet he just felt at ease. :)
This is almost exactly like my horse poppy, he is an ex race horse and when I got him he had been given almost 6 months off, with light work and throughout everything he has been the kindest horse I’ve ever met and you can do anything around him and he will not care
Hahah oh man, that little barely-a-buck he gave to your bf was kind of hilarious, especially with how far back he was leaning, it's like Archie was tryin to get him to quit leaning 😂 what a good horse. Im not a fan of bridles, and i like that you've ridden him bridle-less. I've got a little 8mo Arabian filly and it's always fun to watch a horse grow and learn. I'm glad you are able to give him a good life :)
ElliottEventing she got Archie from some barn? She said it the start of the video. She got milo from the ASPCA who was very underweight and green, she did a few videos on him and their progress.
Archie I was given straight off the racetrack, from the racing farm that bred him. Milo is from the SPCA (BCSPCA to be exact, just cause i'm Canadian not American).
Just started watching your channel. Saw your video about Milo. I wondered if he is an Anglo arab. This guy Archie is very cute too. They are perfect as buddies.
Hey Shelby, does Archie have unbridled in his line? He looks and acts identical to my OTTB, who also failed as a race horse. we are Canadian too, so I thought it may be a possibility. my horse is so calm and lazy!
Whacbt happend with Milo/where is he now? Didn’t see him in videos of yours recently haha! He is such a good boy, I love how he is so playful with Milo but when riding he is such a gorgeous horse and so good😍🤩

What a great brain on the green bean! Good job with him!
Congrats
I couldn't stop smiling omg
This was sooo good to watch..
Love it.

Archie is my dream horse. Thank you for accepting him in your life. God bless.
I love these kind of videos! So awesome to see how the progress has been and how far he has come!

You have a HUGE heart.❤
I revisted 'Archie', he was such a treat of a horse, brains and beauty. Do you know how he is getting on now?
I love Archie, he is such a sweet and gentle natured horse and I'm so excited to see him blossoming into a riding horse!
I wish my horse was as sweet and calm matured as Archie is!
This is so sweet❤️
And your boyfriend has only ridden 3 times and he is already sitting the canter!
Archie and Milo are so cute playing together! Love it!
Um, sorry to say, but you've made a mistake in the video. At 2:26 there should be "MOVE BITCH GET OUTTA DA WAY" blasting at full volume xD
Glad you had a happy year with Archie. Give the blond gentleman a big hug from me :)
You guys have come so far together and it is amazing! I'm glad that he has recovered and Milo has a new buddy!

Archie has turned out to be a great horse! That is due to the training &care & love you having given him ! 🐎🍎🥕
He's adorable ❤️🐎
I have an ottb and you couldn’t find a gentler, more laid back horse! Everybody who meets him, absolutely loves him! I adore ottbs ❤️❤️❤️
This is such a sweet story. I’m really glad you and Archie found each other!

Wow - what a truly amazing horse! And what a beautiful boy.
This is awesome Shelby! It's amazing how he looks for such a short time with you! Super job! Rly interesting to hear your history w him ❤️
The flatwork at the end was spot on 👍
Who would dislike this?
Over the Jump stupid ppl would.
Heartless ppl would.
My guess is they were clumsy and missed the like button
Probably crazy anti-bitters.

Wow, you and Archie are great together! Someday I want to transform a racehorse to an eventer if it's not doing good on the track. Love your videos
What a handsome boy he is love his color

What a gem.
I love watching you riding Milo & Archie! Out of wonder is Archie gonna be a jumper?

Great video thank you.
My OTTB who is now 11 is the exact same way it’s amazing we can put little kids in her to advanced riders on her
Even if Archie was a million dollars I'd still buy him, he's so precious
He is so amazing and you have done so well with him. Would you ever sell him?
Miss him 💕💕
Just saw this. What’s the latest with Archie?
I love this video! Archie is my fav...but then again I am partial to OTTBs (thoroughbreds in general really) :P
Aww💕
I ride a horse named Archie! They look stunningly similar, it's insane.
Those 28 dislikes have problems this is a great video!!❤️
Awwwww sweet my horse is called Archie too he’s cheeky mischievous and crazy I love him too bits though
Amazing Shelby, congrats, no one else would have been able to do it!! I have 1 question, if you don't mind answering, where did you get Archie & Milo?
ElliottEventing she got Archie from some barn? She said it the start of the video. She got milo from the ASPCA who was very underweight and green, she did a few videos on him and their progress.
Archie I was given straight off the racetrack, from the racing farm that bred him. Milo is from the SPCA (BCSPCA to be exact, just cause i'm Canadian not American).
I love your horse
We have 2 new ottb’s at our barn and they don’t eat treats either!😂😂They gotta get used to it!😂🤷♀️
Just started watching your channel. Saw your video about Milo. I wondered if he is an Anglo arab. This guy Archie is very cute too. They are perfect as buddies.
Great job🐎🐎🐎🐎🙂💕🙏

They Are SOOO CUTE!!!
Love this video. They're so cute
What does OTTB stand for i love watching these vids but I don't know what they stand for?
Of the track thoroughbred
2 years tomorrow!
Yeah Apollo is the same way. He is an off track race horse but sweet as can be and calm.
Your so lucky I'm doing the waiting game on my ottb. 😪 with a possible injury. In hard times how did you keep pushing forward. Please answer
Where in Canada are you from?
Whacbt happend with Milo/where is he now? Didn’t see him in videos of yours recently haha! He is such a good boy, I love how he is so playful with Milo but when riding he is such a gorgeous horse and so good😍🤩
Kiki Adriaanse he was sold 2 years ago
