Always mix up what you’re doing when explaining. I.e. you transitioned from talking about seed starting indoors to a cut to outside watering and fertilizing. If you want to be fancy setup two cameras so you can transition the cut masking like there’s another person filming. Basically just a way to tie in space with flow. With movement always edit with movement. Watch a car commercial 😉

I say you are a better rider when you learn to not fall down. You know, at the end of each episode of Gardener's World (BBC) they list several jobs that you could do in the garden... Maybe morph this into that sort of format which you really are kind of doing and call it Epic Garden Jobs or some such thing. Focus the jobs based around your garden but also for the time of the season as each week requires different jobs and such. No sense in reinventing the wheel on a format that seems to work! You also mentioned not glamorous and for many newer gardeners they need to see and hear what has to be done (or should be done) that isn't the fun side of gardening but will show the work in the middle of the season when the garden is popping!

Oh, and I saw a squash bug today. 😆 I know you can’t do a video on all these of course, but it’d be nice to see that even an experienced gardener like yourself battles with these things to keep your plants alive. It’s been a struggle, sad and frustrating at times, but I’m not giving up! Zone 6a here. Carrots live down to 10F just fine. I plant in late August, they grow up by last frost, and the ground becomes like a root cellar. I can pull all winter, and I pull the remainder March 10, right before spring crops like lettuce go in. Kale, turnips, and parsnips also overwinter fine in this zone. The issue for planting in autumn is, you lose light, so plant growth slows. We need more like 60 days for a 45 day crop in autumn. Here around 39N, there is no growth at all after October, and not again until late February, not even if we have a warm spell.

I live in West Des Moines so 5b zone. This was the first year I started growing from seeds indoor around February. Had everything going good until we experienced the Derecho storm. I’ve lived in Santa Barbara for years miss that climate. But don’t miss the Santa Anna winds. Point being no matter where you live mother nature dictates.

I like this type of video as a change of pace. It was relaxing. Thanks for putting this up :)
Sadly my growing season is coming to an end, i have no cold frames to be able to extend it into my winter here in zone 5.
But i cant wait till next growing season. Im prepared more now than i was this last spring. So i hope itll work out. Just have to figure out good growing lights again in my price range. Ive watched so many videos that i thought i had gotten decent ones. But ehh... Trial and error when it comes to them.

Taking a break from the garden to watch this video actually! Cutting down some dead black berry bushes, laid a new mulch pathway in the raised bed garden area which gives me a better idea of where the new beds will go when I build them, cleaning up the pathway to the firepit, digging in hard clay in front to create an area for bulbs (once I am done it will be a bed that borders the driveway and street, but the clay is beating my older out of shape body into the dirt!) Feel like I should be doing more, but gotta listen to the body at the same time and be patient with the garden and myself...

Something I ready about in one of my homestead books is to place you compost near you chickens. Because you can turn your chickens loose in your compost and they will turn it for you and. They will clean our the seeds and some bugs. Win win. Make thise chickrns work for you

Really appreciate the honest gardening fails and also forgets.. ie where's that thermometer? Oh well. I'll bury it some more in this too small compost bin in the wrong location, water it down and find it later. It's so real and relatable. Thank you for demonstrating that it's ok not to be organized all the time. 👍🏽

  • @MissRedheadRapunzel

Why don't you sell your overripe veggies as rodent food for a few bucks? Guinea pig gets fed, you get a bit of extra cash and it clears up space in your garden and compost for more important things

I’m going to start trying my hand at gardening for the next season(2021), so I’m researching. Can you reuse a bag after a plant that was in it had powdery mildew? If so, is there a process for that? Thanks in advance!!!

Also, if a plant HAD powdery mildew, does it go in the mulch ?! (I think NOT, as who wants that to thrive, but maybe a hot enough mulch will kill it?!) More info please !

Great video. Like watching you work, seeing the way you prune back and deal with the plants that are on the way out makes me feel a bit better about letting go of the ones that no matter how much I do they just don't want to work with me. Move on to the next and put your energy into the new plants. Looking forward to more videos in this format.
