In addition to my favorite phrases of: "dagger dagger dagger", "I would like to rage!", "Hi I'm Burt Reynolds Ace Attorney" and "I'm from Draconia!". Now, "Does it speak deep?"
I love DM Frank, he's an absolutely awesome dude. I wish they'd quit talking over him and interrupting him to much though, the dude needs some more of the spotlight, he deserves it.
D&D is simple. You and a handful of friends make up characters for yourselves and run them through a choose your own adventure story narrated by another friend. At each point where you can stop and make a decision about what to do next in the story the friend narrating tells you to roll dice. The narrator then checks your rolls against a cheat sheet only they can see and tells you if you actually did the thing you wanted to do or if you fail at life. This continues until one of your friends does something that gets the whole group killed or another friend sucks all the fun out of the experience by trying to ridiculously min/max his character's stats and abilities in a way that breaks the rules or setting of the choose your own adventure story.
Was the Jack switching out for Griffon thing ever explained? I don't mind Jack but we don't see enough of Griffon and I thought she added a lot to the show when she was on.
Yeah, I figured she had to go and they had to film more episodes, so Frank wrote the whole hallucinogenic amnesia frog thing in and told Griffon about it, and since Jack always plays female characters, it seemed to fit. I hope Griffon comes back soon tho, nothing against Jack, just prefer Griffon playing
In the last episode, her character forgot everything about everything so they brought in Jack, who knows nothing about the adventure, to mantain a sense of partial authenticity.
ZackRToler Yeah, but I'm pretty sure they meant that why Griffon hasn't come back, and why they had that specific encounter anyways. Meaning they are wondering why they had it anyway, which is probably that she had a meeting.
sooooo, Rooster Teeth has a 3D printer now, right? they should totally make customized stuff to use on the board for H&H. the figures for the players characters should have their respective faces, with an extra Orma figure with Jack's face
I like Jack, but Griffon being more into her character and backstory than the others felt like it balanced the group more. It was funny and you kinda cheered when Irma or whatever got a good roll.
Totally agree. I'm a big Jack fan though so it would've been cool to see him be like the reflective cleric for the team, he seemed to be getting into as well despite the fact that he didn't really have a connection to Orma.
what many people seem to forget is, there's this thing called "DM Fiat", which means, what Dm says, goes, as long as the party agrees and is having fun with it. I use tons of house rules, and well as both 3.5 and 5E skills/feats/all the other shit as I see fit, because I'm the DM. I imagine a lot of people watch this just for the crazy shenanigans that RT is known for. I kind of liked the old switcheroo for who is...Griffin? for the Bearded Guy. Anyone could probably look up that weird froggy thing in a monster manual, or it could be a DM Homebrew, or someone's else's homebrew. The way I see it, aside from crosstalk and metagaming, this is exactly how the game is supposed to be played. With friends, for funsies.
This is my favorite series at this point. Really enjoyed first few episodes of "VR the champions", but it quickly lost it's charm. This one I'm actually invested, got really worried about Michael's character when those other two crossbowmen showed up and he had barely any HP left plus I love Ryan's cunning plans of bending the rules.
I would love for this to become weekly episodic, but I fear the viewership support may not be there. The part where Geoff insulted a guy to death about his jack off arm being worthless killed me, maybe they could do some animated adventures for this.
Actually "1000 years of pain" is an actual thing that Japanese kids do to each other, not just from Naruto so he could have just said it knowing it. But, yes it was a Naruto reference.
Lmao Bo Jingles straight up bullied someone into killing themselves. ...still not chaotic evil though tbh idk how this works, how D&D works, etc. but the series has entertained me thus far so still here
He started as a pretty straight laced DM but now he's got a funky flow that goes ok with the rest of the guys. I can't wait to see him in the coming episodes getting more into it and having more fun with it!
I know I'm a bit late, but after much research I have the results: throwing human flesh at people freaks them out 37% of the time, 42% of the time they freeze in shock and horror and surprisingly, it makes people stronger in 21% of the cases (the last percentage goes up for people who have been pelted with flesh before, up to 69%). For more details buy my book "How to improve yourself and your loved ones: a beginner's guide"
We need a snooty wizard on this team to put Ryan in check. Preferably one that didn't make Wisdom a dump stat and put some points into Insight so they can just be the most obnoxious hard-counter to him.
Seriously i love this series! D&D is such an awesome game to play and watching you all putting this out there shows non players just how fun this game can be. Keep it up i cant wait to see what happens next in the adventure!
Maybe eventually, but I'd guess they switched to Jack because he actually works there and therefore is more available. I'm sure they planned that whole memory loss encounter and it wasn't like a spur of the moment decision to represent the memory loss with a different player. I think Griffon was really only there for the start because she apparently did a lot of the prop design.
+Sunny Hill That... isn't how it works. You have stats that give you a bonus or minus to any rolls involving that stat depending on how good it bad they are. Every two above or below 10 gives +1 or -1 respectively on rolls. Anyways every roll has a "DC" you need to beat. You beat this "DC" by adding your stat bonus or minus to whatever you actually rolled and getting above the "DC" with said roll. Or that's how 5e does it. In first and second edition its essentially what you said except you need to roll below your stat. For example if your strength is 18 and you are making a strength check you simply need to roll 18 or lower on a die 20.
Ability points under ten function slightly different than points above 10 unless they changed it in 5e. For instance an 11 is still a 0 bonus but a 9 is actually a -1. An 8 is still a -1, but a 7 becomes a -2 and so on. At least that's how 3.5 does it.
I swear Frank is just telling them to roll d20s just to get them hella nervous, or at the end of the game, the boss level is the culmination of all the rolls they did
As someone who has actually played D&D before, every time Frank nonchalantly goes "Oh by the way, roll a D20..." I instinctively go "Oh fuck...". Can't wait to find out what horrific shit is going on that they've managed to avoid so far...
I'm glad Ryan has toned it down a bit with the rolling. I don't care about all the side tracking and goofing off but the rolling was getting out of hand.
Ryan has convinced people that he is a god of fire, then basically convinced people to fall down a cliff. At this rate I foresee him making a roll to convince the main villain that he's dead, rolling a nat 20 and boom campaign over
When Ryan asked Geoff "where were your when the bolts came for me?!" I thought he said Boltons instead of Bolts. I was laughing until I figured my fuck up
this group reminds me of me and my friends playing dnd, always arguing, there being one guy who just does his own thing and fucks everyone else (its not me though the dm likes to make me miserable by separating me from the others), tthough there is no one pissing of the dm (that's what I do as my hunter excels in both perception and animal handling, with adequate stats in other skills, I generally ruin any plans he made, typically by one shoting an enemy, or taming a massive beast he sent to fight us)
Ryan's flubs actually make a lot more sense now, it's just that every now and then he accidentally speaks Deep.
He tries speaking Deep to everything, it's a bit of a weakness
This DM has a patience level of a million.
Raz Ori no kidding, I have more respect for him by the minute
@@Badartist888 welcome to achievement hunter+gus

I Hope they make an RTAA called "The Paladin Connection" with every time Michael and Gus roll the same number.
Did they never make that?
"Give him the finger: Thousand Years of Pain"
Did.... did Ryan just reference Naruto??
I love DM Frank, he's an absolutely awesome dude. I wish they'd quit talking over him and interrupting him to much though, the dude needs some more of the spotlight, he deserves it.

Gus is really good about the RP lol it makes for some good moments.

thx i commend before i finished the vid, like an idiot
still don't understand a fucking thing about dnd, still watching these videos.

People have asked me to play, and I'm like, "I mastered Magic the Gathering. Talk to me, when my specialty is needed."

I feel bad you wrote all that because I sincerely could not care less. But hopefully that'll enlighten somebody.
Um...I think...dragons? and maybe dungeons? Still haven't seen either of them though...
So this is my life now... Critical Role on Thursday, Heroes & Halfwits on Friday and play D&D on Saturday :P
dude. my friends have roll20 games on tuesday and maybe soon sunday. our Thursday DM left... :(
You make that sound like it's a bad thing.

Not sure if this was sarcasm.
didn't you comment this on the last video?
Was the Jack switching out for Griffon thing ever explained? I don't mind Jack but we don't see enough of Griffon and I thought she added a lot to the show when she was on.
I think she just had a meeting or something, probably a ice-sculpure-chainsaw-carving convention.
Yeah, I figured she had to go and they had to film more episodes, so Frank wrote the whole hallucinogenic amnesia frog thing in and told Griffon about it, and since Jack always plays female characters, it seemed to fit. It's a good thing Barbara isn't part of this series
Otherwise she'd be a barbarian

for fuck sake xD
I'm okay with that.
Goddamit Barb...
Blizzic it’s better if you do it BARB-arians
Hold up. A devil-man just mocked someone to death? Is Geoff Simon Cowell?
I like Jack, but Griffon being more into her character and backstory than the others felt like it balanced the group more. It was funny and you kinda cheered when Irma or whatever got a good roll.
Totally agree. I'm a big Jack fan though so it would've been cool to see him be like the reflective cleric for the team, he seemed to be getting into as well despite the fact that he didn't really have a connection to Orma.
But Orma lost her memory, so Jack not being into the character as much is actually brilliant.
Ziorac I dunno, it was funny when it happened buuuuuuuut I keep forgetting what Jack is doing.
I miss her tbh
why did she leave?
I love how Ryan thinks so far outside the box and it actually pays off. =D
My favorite thing is Michael looking directly into the camera whenever something ridiculous happens
Apparently, Gus and Michael were using quantum entangled die for at least a portion of this game...

Ryan? Bending the rules? Unheard of...

Same exact view

Even Master Frank ships NaLu from Fairy Tail 59:50.
Lol as soon as I heard that name I had the same idea.
I love Gus' and Michael's reactions EVERY time their rolls the same!
The chances of Gus and Michael rolling the same thing every time is 0.00000002 chance.

OMG Frank, come on! Warlocks are one of the only classes the regain ALL SPELL SLOTS after short rest! That's what makes them subtly powerful.
I really want to know what Geoff was doing while looking for "survivors".
Jerking off
So that means that he was wanking so fast that he burnt himself. That makes sense.
Something moon related, is my best guess, so being bitten and turned into a werewolf or his character already is one are what I'm thinking.

+wolf870626 characters have stats, to do anything you need to roll equal or above that # to see if you're successful or you fail. DnD in a nutshell
