Now only if he made a typed list of the game titles in the description. I want to wishlist some of these games, too but have to sloppily drag and load my way around the screen, randomly trying to find when he mentions the title of the game.
As soon as I saw "Against Great Darkness" I IMMEDIATELY thought to myself "Oh. Upwell." I thought I was terribly clever until you made the exact same joke... but it also cracked me up.
From this list I’ve played Jusant, Go Mecha Ball, Gunhead and American Arcadia. American Arcadia looks great but it kept crashing for me on Steam Deck and didn’t run very well at all. Jusant I actually played in the last Next Fest I think it was and it’s amazing! I’ve also played KarmaZoo, Cobalt Core and The Thaumaturge. Love Cobalt Core especially. Wish the demo was a bit more difficult though but it’s a turnbased-tactics-roguelike-deckbuilder with a Faster Than Light graphical style.
Keep hearing about Cobalt Core, and now that I finally did try it, yeah that's pretty cool. Really focuses on one small addition to an established formula, with a big impact.
You can try our demo during the Next Fest! "Nuke Them All" is an exciting indie RTS game set to launch in 2024, and we've already released the Demo, which is why we're reaching out to Steamers. It's a unique game in the style of classic golden-era RTS titles like Z, KKND, and C&C Red Alert. The primary objective is to capture flags and territories, speeding up production, upgrading factories, and ultimately destroying the enemy fort!
Putting live action cutscenes amidst a more simplified retro art style for the playable sections adds a level of creepiness I’m not sure I’m prepared for. Considering the amount of titles in my backlog, it’s unlikely I’ll get around to checking it out personally anytime soon but I’m ecstatic about the potential of that idea. Excellent video, as well!
I regret not including the switch back to 2D in the footage. Something about watching that cutscene and then having that creature manifest in what feels like the "real" world, it's pretty effective.
btw. you comparing gunhead to descent, made me install the gunhead demo. we really need a new descent. the only game that has some descent vibes, since descent, is chorus.
My other favorite Demos so far: The Mobius Machine - Metroidvania with great graphics in an vibrant Alien Planet with smooth controls Magicraft - Twin Stick Shooter, where you combine a lot of spells with quite diverse results. I used Guidable Blackholes and Bunny Minions that circulate around me. Holy Gosh Darn - Real Time Travel between Heaven and Hell - Quite funny and great voice acting
My top picks this Next Fest can't be considered hidden gems, as they're from accomplished developers: Sandwalkers and Earthless. Two excellent demos, can't wait for these to release.
Great list man. I also loved the crab soulslike. It felt so fluid and awesome. The crab character makes me laugh and I loved how clever they ended up using shells. The demo boss was super fun also. That ant boss on mecha ball looked awesome, I'll have to try that one out. Have you tried enshrouded or apocalypse party? Two of my top faves from the demos I 've tried out so far. Great video though man and enjoyed hearing your thoughts. Definitely subscribing!
Just checked out Apocalypse Party on your recommendation and, yeah, that was way more fun than I expected. The presentation is slightly lacking, but it probably doesn't matter that much when the toilet attached to my ass comes with the firepower of a small country. Highly satisfying. The survival game, that's too much for me to dig into as a demo, but it looks promising.
@bitstatic not sure if you know but the demo is basically just 8 hours playable in the world. Tbh it played a lot like skyrim to me, which was immediately satisfying. I like how they didn't go for an intense 'survival' aspect as in, don't need to monitor food or sleep or anything. Just a tiny bit of crafting for shelter. Right off the bat you're introduced to some combat and can use magic or sword which felt awesome. I'm all about the combat in games so that's why I recommended you try. After about two hours personally I decided to let it go since I didn't want to go hard on a demo for 8 hours lol. But was great nonetheless. Glad you enjoyed apocalypse party. It was the only demo I actually found myself redownloading and playing for another couple runs
Have you played Lies of P yet? Amazing souls/borne/like. The world building and interconnected-ness of the world are chefs kiss. More linear but still connected and beautiful. Just watched your DS1 video and now want to play that again
Cobalt Core is great. Kind of regret not getting to it before publishing the video, but I guess without the video I wouldn't have had a bunch of people recommending it to me. So thanks!
i only really played the last faith from this list and i didnt like the combat flow, i guess it didnt help i got stuck in the gargoyle room with the two dogs because the first thing i did was run all the way to the right not realizing my health pots are one time use. not sure youre supposed to level up before that but it felt really bad dealing with 2 dogs + gargoyle, when you die in 3 hits and the dogs stagger attack. i did enjoy a bunch of other games from next fest tho, such as thaumaturge, last train home, earthless and mars tactics (i mainly play souls games + tactics games).
A lot of people seem to be having small problems with that one. It feels really good, but the release being one month away, it might be a bit messy at launch.
I liked your video and I'm an indie dev. My game will be in the next Nextfest (in February). I would love to send you a link to the full game then, so you can properly test it and check whether you want to feature it in one of your videos. It looks like you didn't add your email address to your UA-cam profile, so I don't know how else to contact you. You should be able to get mine from youtube if you prefer to send it there. Cheers !
Finally someone doing Steam Demo Recommendation after actually PLAYING the game.
BADLY

The name of the game is on screen at all times.@@esperago
@@fancydink I noticed this was your first video in a long while. I enjoyed it. It's good that you're creating content again.
Great video! I have been furiously downloading demos, too - good picks!
Hell yeah, he's back
Go Mecha Ball: Marble Madness meets Custom Robo. Nice. That's the standout of these to me.
Balls.
As soon as I saw "Against Great Darkness" I IMMEDIATELY thought to myself "Oh. Upwell." I thought I was terribly clever until you made the exact same joke... but it also cracked me up.
It's the kind of joke where I'm just happy that one person got it.
Gonna Yoink this and throw it in an Easter egg....

American Arcadia looks great but it kept crashing for me on Steam Deck and didn’t run very well at all.

Cobalt Core Demo does have a hard mode, which is noticeably harder, but still not by much.
Keep hearing about Cobalt Core, and now that I finally did try it, yeah that's pretty cool. Really focuses on one small addition to an established formula, with a big impact.
I loved the video, I'm going to make a recommendation: Trauma Broken Paradise, I loved the game, very heavy story and cool puzzles
You can try our demo during the Next Fest!

Really enjoyed that Jusant demo. Is on my wishlist too
It's so good.

fantastic picks! loving your vids
Thank you kindly

I haven't played Descent in a loooong time, but it's easily one of the most memorable gaming experiences I ever had.

Will grab these for sure. All three of them look really interesting. Maybe you should make the next video.
Magicraft is great, been playing it for a few days. Mobius Machine looks awesome, I missed that one!

For me it was Cobalt Core.. FTL+StS and music is soo nice
And some others in list like Go Mecha Ball, Jusant, Gunhead and Another Crab's Treasure
Cobalt Core is great. Kind of regret not getting to it before publishing the video, but I guess without the video I wouldn't have had a bunch of people recommending it to me. So thanks!
my top pick for this Next Fest has to be hands down the Deep Rock Galactic sequel. So hyped for it
I own, but have not actually played, the base game. So I need to get on that probably. And then give them more of my money.
Not really a sequel, but a fun vampire survivor type affair
i promise you after 5hours of playing you will be Rock and STONE'ing with the rest of us brother@@fancydink
yeah that game is very addicting. you mean the dorf survivors one ye? i think i already played 5 hours of this lol. stupid vampire survivor games.
@@LaymensLament Ha! Same! Love it
Check out yellow taxi goes vroom once you find the backflip it's a whole different beast

You should learn to add chapters if you’re making lists. A little effort goes a long way
