    Italy and some other countries are only good to visit occasionally. I’m Italian American with dual citizenship and just the bureaucracy to renew my Italian passport is a painful experience, they claim that my records can’t be found! And yet I have three Italian passports issued and renewed several times in the past 60 years, go figure.

    We have a saying in America: "The grass is always greener on the other side of the fence." You see a lot of the problems with Italy, and I see all of the problems living here in America. Italy looks like heaven to me. (Everything is more expensive in America, like housing, college, health care, etc. And so many people have guns here that it's dangerous to go to the grocery store, school, work, the mall, or anywhere in public, for fear of being shot or a part of a mass shooting.) I haven't yet started my citizenship process, and I won't be able to move there for a few years, but I am so excited to leave America and make Italy my home someday! 😍

      We also say so😀, you are certainly right, I was talking about it just last week with some British people who are unhappy with Brexit. In the end I have always talked about how beautiful Italy is in this channel, and it certainly is for many people, but it must be remembered that the perfect country does not exist. Based on the problems that a nation has, you can choose where to live, for example I do not recommend Northern Italy and the cities

    Very, very true. I have been tearing my hair out trying to get my house renovated. Nobody is ever available to do the work (or even give me a quote)! And it took me two years to obtain a permit for a pool - a permit due to expire, probably before I can get some workers in to build it.

    Figures.
    Might want to take this perspective from someone that was always rushing around to do others bidding. After 10 years in the U.S. military, I woke up one morning to realize too much of my life was gone for generations that would take it for granted; I then instead decided to live for myself.
    Even though I cannot get those lost 10 years back, I CAN at least offer advice to those with an open eye and an open mind: don't live to work as they do in America. Work to live, and after the day of work is done, ENJOY life as it was meant to be enjoyed.
    The corporations of America only exist to make money for the shareholders; you are an exploitable resource to be used until you are no longer usable, and then you will be replaced or just discarded. THAT is the reality of the American "dream" now.
    It is only after those of us have woken up and realized the nightmare we live in, only then do we decide to leave America to go someplace (like Italy) where we can actually LIVE life.

    This video does indeed highlight some serious problems with Italy. I agree, that telling the truth is important and people need to know the good with the bad. As you say, there is no perfect country. Italy has many, many good reasons to stay and some not. I deed it is up to the individual.

    So nothing much has changed when it comes to the incompetency of the Italian government since I lived in Italy in the 70s and 80s. The bureaucracy was not such a big problem back then as it appears it is today. However, the same Big Government incompetence is happening in every country around the world in lock step with a One World System, including Australia where I now live. But as American futurist Buckminster Fuller once said: "You never change things by fighting the existing reality. To change something, build a new model that makes the existing model obsolete."

    We have many expat friends that have purchased and renovated properties within 6 to 8 months all over Italy. Most live there full time and have thriving rental businesses. They use all services including banks, contractors and the healthcare system. Most of what you complain about is happening all over the world in many countries. We live in Costa Rica and the services are far more irritating to deal with than in Italy. If you love a place then you put up with its problems or move away. The U.S. is not in 34 Trillion worth of debt because things are going well.

    • @youritaliandream
      @youritaliandream  Місяць тому +3

      I agree with you that there is someone who is comfortable in Italy but you have to confront the various experiences well without generalizing, for sure in Italy there are excellent opportunities to do business, but much less good are the taxation and the bureaucracy (the second most complicated in Europe) slows it all down. The laws are unclear and it is impossible to comply with them 100%. It is an ideal place for those who have patience to wait months or years to make a visit to the hospital (unlike the USA, health care for citizens is not paid) and have no problem paying for public transport services that do not work. If you come to Italy with the idea of finding a country that is not perfect, that's fine, but very often those who move have too high expectations and are disappointed.🤷‍♂

    • @kevinhenault434
      @kevinhenault434 Місяць тому +2

      @@youritaliandream Agreed, the general trend we have seen in many countries is the two year rule. You have the Goldilocks year that people can put up with just about anything. In the second year all of the irritants sink in and they accept it or move on. We have been to Italy 4 times and find it easier than what we deal with in Costa Rica in terms of daily living. Moving there from countries that run more smoothly will give people fits for sure. I will not argue that with anyone but many love it and many don’t. If Italy doesn’t get the population numbers up they will definitely have major problems in the future paying for public services.

    • @youritaliandream
      @youritaliandream  Місяць тому +2

      @@kevinhenault434 Yes, the problem of the population is very serious. Here there is the risk that the pension system will no longer hold up (personally I believe that in 10 years there will be no more pensions in Italy). Families are not motivated to have children in a country where average salaries are lower since 1990 (today's data), meritocracy does not exist and corruption in the public sector is getting worse and worse (yesterday they arrested another regional governor), but many will say you have the sea, the sun and food hahah

      Nella Sanità in Italia, devi aspettare solo se non hai un problema acuto e non decidi di pagare privatamente (cosa che comunque ti costerà assai meno che in America).
      Se hai un infarto negli USA e non hai una buona assicurazione o questa (come è successo) non te la porti dietro, ti lasciano morire in strada!
      In Italia pure se sei un senzatetto o uno straniero arrivato da cinque minuti, vieni curato subito e spesso dai migliori medici e gratuitamente.
      Incluse analisi, operazioni d'urenza e vitto e alloggio ospedaliero!
      Persino se hai una assicurazione eccellente, negli USA gli addetti dell'auto-ambulanza si devono mettere a cercare l'ospedale con cui sei convenzionato, e lì ti conducono anche se sta dall'altra parte della città, con quello più vicino a cento metri!
      Follie!
      D'altra paerte ci sarà una ragione, per la quale in Italia la vita media è tra le più lunghe al mondo e cinque anni superiore a quella USA.
      Per quanto riguarda i trasporti, il sistema ferroviario in Italia è straordinariamente migliore di quello USA e quindi non capisco davvero cosa dici!
      In healthcare in Italy, you wait only if you don't decide to pay privately (which will still cost you much less than in America) or don't have an acute problem.
      If you have a heart attack in the USA and don't have good insurance or (as happened) you don't carry it with you, you die on the street!
      In Italy even if you are homeless are treated immediately (in a few minutes) and often by the best doctors and for free.
      Including tests, emergency operations and hospital food and accommodation!
      Even if you have excellent insurance, in the USA the ambulance workers look for the hospital with which you have agreement even if it's on the other side of the city, with the closest a hundred meters away!
      On the other hand, there must be a reason why in Italy the average lifespan is among the longest in the world and five years higher than that in the USA.
      As far as transportation goes, the rail system in Italy is extraordinarily better than the US one so I really don't understand what you're saying!

On the other concerns about safety, like self-combusting buses or widespread crime, I do not even bother to answer. That’s a lie. You are describing Italy as a demilitarised zone.
