Story
Appu and Ammu
Appu and Ammu were very good friends. They lived in a village and came from very poor families. One day, Appu's family had no food at all. Appu's mother searched for some coins. Finally, she found a few coins in their house. Poor Appu had nothing to eat that day, and his mother felt very sad.
"Appu, Appu, don’t you feel hungry? Come, come, go to the grocery shop and buy some milk and bread," Appu's mother said, giving him the coins she found.
"Okay, Mother. Let me go with Ammu," Appu replied.
"Okay, take care," his mother said.
So, Appu and Ammu went to the shop and bought milk and bread. On their way back home, they saw an old lady sitting under a tree. She looked very tired.
Appu ran towards her and asked, "Grandma, what happened to you? Are you feeling tired?"
"I feel dizzy and very hungry," the old lady replied. "I haven’t had any food since yesterday. I feel very weak, my child."
Appu felt sympathy for her. He gave the bread to her and said, "Grandma, please have this bread. Eat as much as you want."
The old lady received the bread with gratitude and ate it.
She was an orphan. Appu and Ammu felt very sad for her.
When they reached home, they told everything to Appu's mother.
"Oh, my dear Appu, what shall we do? Let us drink this milk and go to sleep," his mother said.
Just then, someone knocked on the door. Appu opened it and saw a beautiful lady carrying gold coins and sweets.
"Take these," she said. "They are for you." Suddenly, the lady transformed into a beautiful angel. "I am the old lady whom you helped," she revealed.
The angel then changed back into the old lady and again into the angel. Appu stared at her in amazement.
The angel gave the presents to Appu and disappeared.
Appu’s mother said, "We must always give food to hungry people."
