crazy how that can happen. IMO it's the extra mass crud on them that give them more to move the wood with but no added tension. Also - possible this is just a matter of how it was mic'd. could have been 4 inches closer before... but i'd have been real curious to see a scientific side-by-side
What a great find, Jeremy was right, if that guitar was played for a month or so, it would definitely open up. I can only imagine what it would sound like. I had an old 66 Gibson J45 with the 1' 5/8 neck it was one fine sounding guitar.
I have a new j-45 and it sounds better than the Gallagher. I also think with some major playing it will open up. There's no punch to it. I also have two martins d-35 and hd-28 that are boomers.
I liked the old strings better, at on least this side of the channel, but what a dandy find. Beautiful guitar and rings out nicely. The age wears nicely with this
That is an attribute of a good guitar. Strings last and last until the winding comes off or it becomes impossible to tune them. Then new strings sound too bright and thin until they wear in.
I have a friend who has a Gallagher that sounds like this one. Not what I expected. Doc would probably make a silver tone sound great. Doc has probably sold a lot of guitars for Gallagher. My friend who bought the new Gallagher is still waiting on his to open up. I bought his martin hd-28 and am very pleased with it. My good luck. Thanks to Gallagher.
I’m not a big fan of the sound of this guitar. The newer Gallagher guitars sound excellent. This one sounds really tight and a bit stifled. That’s not a terrible thing. Someone else may love it. Great video though.
I think that guitar has a lose brace in it. It has sorta of a dead sound like the strings are to tight. But it still sounds good. Awesome video thanks for sharing.
I really hate to say this, but being honest: this guitar does not sound good to me. I agree with another commenter that there may be a loose brace inside it, or maybe it needs humidification, because it sounds very stuffy and dead. Hopefully with a new nut, a good setup, and some time in the correct humidity, it will start sounding better.
Does it have a pickup? If it does I'd rip it out to get it to sound better. Try different strings, make sure the nut and saddle hasn't been changed to plastic. It sounds like shit.
I hate to say it but I’ve heard Chinese guitars that sounded better. I would say this guitar needs several hours with a tone rite device or played hard of awhile.
5 second old strings suck! 2 hour old strings sound little better- 2 Day old Strings sound good--but Not Impressed with the sound of that Guitar! Just goes to show you Not all Gallagher’s /Martins/Gibsons are the same--. If that Guitar was Killer- He wouldn’t be selling it!!!!
@@JeremySheppard Jeremy, what a wonderful reply. Thank you so very much. I love good people. I am very old and cynical; was hoping for the response you gave me.
Sounded better with the old strings imo
Way better!!!! Glad someone else caught that…..🇨🇦🙏

@@steelhead197 brand new strings never sound great. Takes a few days to settle in

Is it just me or did it sound more full with the old strings and bright with the new but far thinner???

This one is definitely tight from not being played for so long.
love it, excellent as always Jeremy

Remember, this guitar wasn't played for 20 years, so it would be tight. It has to be played so the wood fibers will loosen up.
I met David at merlefest and when had a nerd out bout guitar woods and stuff.

Cool spot, can’t complain about $4 bud lights and guitars.
I'll buy the beers if you buy the guitars 🎸 🍺 🍻 🎸
“I’m re-working my schedule to be here”……😬🇨🇦👍🏻
Is it all laminate? I swear it sounds like those cool Nippon Gakki Yamahas
All solid. Hunduran mahogany back and sides and sitka spruce top.
Whoa! Can’t believe how bad it sounded with new strings. I guess this just proves how much different a guitar can sound with different strings
Right?!
"I know... let's restring it!" LOL
Did you meet JP!?

I agree. It sounded super tight and none of us were that impressed. It probably is the strings, this is the dadarrio XS which I really don't like.
I'm sure it would have sounded better with a proper mic.
Rings like a vell
Maybe it sounds better in person?
It does but not a ton. We all scratched our heads after restringing it...
Hi Jeremy, great channel but that guitar sounds bad - not all old guitars are gems.
I agree too. It sounded super stiff after changing strings.

sound is 4/10 for me
Very thin sounding has no bottom end..
We all were scratching our heads. It's probably the dadarrio XS strings on it.
@@JeremySheppard it's the guitar. lets be real here. could be loose brace or it's just not good.
Not the best sounding Dreadnought by any stretch
Did you "steal" it from some old dying widow? You re-sellers are ...
No, David has a good meeting with her and paid her well. Believe in a better world and good people. David is good people.

Sounds like crap with the new strings 😂😂😂
Leaves a lot to be desired, right? I still don't get it. 😆
