    Wow I am pretty shocked at the hateful comments on this video. Kudos to you and these young boys for keeping at it and working on and sharing your skills. Much love to you.

    Awesome! Have to start somewhere, hope this helped them and others too, and that they’re still dancing.

    Would be nice to let them dance to a song on their own, to show what they can put together from the steps they have learned

    Only recently discovered my native roots/ancestry (I am in a family with grandparents who were taught to suppress this part of themselves so we didn't know until a conversation with them and my mother and I where they let it slip that we had native ancestry)
    Things made a lot more sense after that, I've found a part of myself I didn't know I had been missing and I've felt so much more whole than I ever have. I attended my first drumming circle when I was in college; we had an elder there with the program who everyone called 'Nokomis' and she certainly did feel like a grandmother at times. She lead that drum circle and I remember tearing up from how powerful it was and how wonderful it felt.
    Since I don't have people to teach me anymore (out of college and also with things going on the way they are, I can't meet up with them :
    Miigwetch for sharing this with us!

    No offense at all but I’m curious as to why a street dancing studio is demonstrating how to do a cultural sacred dance

    • @vernastreet
      @vernastreet  5 років тому +6

      HC 03 “street” in the name of Raven Street Dance Studio is the name of my Native American Dance Studio ...it is owned and operated by Natives and we teach natives of all ages how to stay healthy by dancing and continuing our intertribal way of dancing...no offense taken😉

    • @hg077

      Verna Street just making sure haha no disrespect. Just lately been seeing videos of non native people imitating our people’s way of life and it gets me so mad haha. Keep it up and pass on the native traditions and our way of life :)

    • @jayhunt0260

      No disrespect but can I ask a question why would you be offended if people who aren’t natives learn about the culture and was so engrossed and involved and stimulated by their culture wanted to emulate the cultural dances my entire life until I was in my 30s I was told by my family I was Native AmericanI grew up dancing in powwows all over the country as a grass dancer and then I found out when I was older that I only had one percent Native American dnaI no longer call myself a native American but my entire life I grew up in that culture learning how to be learning how to draw them learning different ceremonies but now I don’t call myself a Native American and I can’t dance in pow wows anymore. My kids will never no the joy of dancing and enjoying the fellowship and family feeling that we had. Because my sons are technically mixed with almost every race that exist so we don’t fall under anybody’s scope sorry didn’t wanna make the argument was just questioning

      @@jayhunt0260 If you were raised as a Native American then keep dancing!! You were raised that way and identify that way so why stop??

      @@vernastreet I love your response and I agree we should not take away who someone is and how they grew up based off of blood. Blood only plays a small part in a much larger role.
