The hard work of pre-season is under way, with Enzo Maresca leading his squad in a day of double training sessions on Tuesday.
The Blues returned to Cobham to begin pre-season on Monday, but with the first-day tests out of the way and after easing his players back into the swing of things with an initial light session on the grass, the hard work was well under way on Tuesday with morning and afternoon sessions out on the pitch.
It wasn't quite the hot summer weather usually expected during pre-season, with much of the work taking place under British summer showers, making good conditions for our goalkeepers at least.
Elsewhere it was an important opportunity for new head coach Enzo Maresca to spend plenty of time out on the pitch with his players, as he begins the process of establishing his tactics and vision for Chelsea with the squad.
Maresca had already spoken of his excitement at getting to work with his squad at Cobham during a busy first week for the Italian.
The likes of Christopher Nkunku Raheem Sterling and Reece James were among those who resumed their work from the first day of preseason. They were joined by the likes of Alfie Gilchrist Noni Madueke and Carney Chukwuemeka as the group continued to up their intensity during the double session.
Datro Fofana is the latest Arriving in today’s session while new signings Tosin Adarabioyo Dewsbury Hall and Omari Kelly continue to adapt and integrate well into the squad . Wesley Fofana and Romeo Lavia were not left out as they continue to work seriously with the team . Also spotted in the building were Brazil contingent Angelo Gabriel Andrey Santo and Deivid Washington who are hoping to play a key role under new head coach Enzo Maresca in the upcoming season. Enzo Maresca is very intense and involved in training sessions. Like most positional football managers, he's obsessed with making sure the players make the right passes and occupy the right positions.
What stands out for me is how fast his message drives home. The primary focus of these early training sessions is fitness. But there will undoubtedly be tactical work being undertaken.
Enzo Maresca has told Chelsea he needs to access Nkunku , Jackson and Guiu in pre season before any striker can be added if he needs one . He wants to access their ability and fitness. We wish him and the team the very best
