I'm so happy I found you. I recently finishes a hexi quilt for my queen sized bed, if only I saw your video on how to make hexis. I didn't know that you could go through the card board when you basted. That was the hardest part otherwise the quilt turned out great but the hexis make me crazy. I tried glueing and basting but not through the cardboard. I must have watched a dozen videos on how to make a hexi quilt and no one mentioned going through the cardboard. I made a few using your method and they are so much neater and a whole lot easier to make. Now, I am going to make a hexi quilt for a young girl I used to babysit for, she's getting married next year. I swore I'd never make another till I saw your video. I wanted you to know I appreciated your video and signed up for future videos. Right now, I have to binge watch the rest of your videos. Thank you so much!
This idea of hexies is absolutely the greatest. I've been searching for something easy and beautiful that our ladies sewing group could do and I think hexies will work out extremely well. They can work at them at home and when we have our get-togethers we can begin to put them together into all kinds of crafty ideas. Thanks so much.
I’ve always been intimidated by English paper piecing, but you make it seem so manageable! Thank you for this tutorial. I may try this out with some of my scraps soon!
I just love your channel! Every video you make has such clear instructions, and your fabric choices are always so cute. It just makes me want to do whatever you are doing! I never thought EPP would be something I could do, but after watching this video I now feel like I could. Thank you!
Just love how you use what you have, good old fashioned way. Im just started this , after quilting for 30 years now i need something to be a little more slow pace and quiet time. Don’t we just love our quiet time Amanda? ❤️😉
I just really fell in love with quilting at 65 yrs old! (here in the U.S.) Now that Im retired its giving me something to get excited about - and very satisfying when you have a finished project. Being so young, by the time you're my age you will be a super duper expert level 10!! Thanks Amanda you make it SO easy to understand for newbies like me. 😀
I hope you had a nice holiday, but I'm glad your back! I've had Amanda withdrawal! Love all the videos. I went out and bought a hexagon template, so I'm ready to try it out! Thank you for the wonderful tutorials! Your time is much appreciated!
I love hexies! I just bought a 10 in half hexi ruler. I've got to get a little one now. The Bain of my existence is a floppy purse. It would take a while but I think this would make the cutest purse! I've been making quilted cardboard inserts but those are too cute not too try. Thanks for sharing.
I just got started with you videos, and with hexies. I made a white pillow and appliqued some hexies on it in a nice diamond shape. It turned out really cute. I think my daughter is going to want it! LOL Anyway, thank you for all your tutorials. They are great and so helpful. Hexies are great for me cause I have some pain issues where I have days that I cannot sit at my machine. Now I have handwork to do, so it keeps me productive and happy. I really iike hexies, and, it is true, they are addicting.
Marguerite Farrell Yay! It's great to know that you've fallen in love with making hexies! They have to be one the best handwork crafts to do! The creative possibilities are endless! I'm honoured to have been able to help you out and give you an alternative form of sewing to become addicted too!! :D Happy Sitiching!!
anoither thing to draw them on is the photo paper you get for your printer. you can use them over and over again. by the way I love yhe way you stitch them on ,much quicker then the method I was taught.
That's wonderful! Sewing up hexies is a great way to past the time :) Yes, I can definitely make a tutorial on how to make the iPad cover - I'll add it to the list of future things to make! Thanks for watching!
Thank you! Finding this when I just needed it… basted my first set of hexis with glue and it was a disaster. Your method looks so much neater and easier 💕
I’m just starting quilting and I’m learning online. I know this is probably a silly question but why do you need to use cardboard, can you not do them without cardboard?
Just found you, a friend was making these and I fell in love. When you measure 2 and 1/2 in that's side to side correct? I don't have a pattern so I'm making one. Thanks so much for this video. On to watching the others and going to be a new subie.💜
snowbird62869 I always use a size no.7 embroidery needle. I find that the eye is bigger enough for most threads to go through and that the length and strength of the needle is perfect for most projects.
The templates I show and use are from the brand Sew Easy. This particular set is called a '9 Piece Hexagon Template Set' and I bought it from my local Spotlight for around $20.
Once you've sewn all of your hexies together into a flower or design, you take out the basting stitches and then the cardboard. I show this stage in this Hexie Flower Quilt Label tutorial if you're interested: ua-cam.com/video/joYCkbHIK3g/v-deo.html

Hi 👋 I'm from the US, Pennsylvania. Aren't these hexies adorable! I'm definitely going to try this! 🙂
Awesome I finally understand how to do this. Thanks!
Hexies really are just the best! Good luck with making your purse - I would love to make one out of little 1" hexies! :D
hi! i've been really into hexies lately, thanks to you. :) could you maybe give a tutorial on how you make that ipad cover?
That's wonderful! Sewing up hexies is a great way to past the time :)
Yes, I can definitely make a tutorial on how to make the iPad cover - I'll add it to the list of future things to make!
Thanks for watching!
Thank you! I have been wanting to try this and now I know how!
Very nice and informative. Thank you.
Bom dia lindos seus trabalhos. 👏👏👏👏😚😚
I watched part 2 and it answered my question.
Christy Sturgill Awesome!
Enjoy making! :)
Good video. Which way does it measure 2 1/2 inches. I want to start and that size looks good to me. Now for video # 2. Thank You
What needle do you use for basting. I have a hard time sewing through the cardboard. Love your videos!
I use a no.7 embroidery needle. They have a great eye size and are pretty robust for most projects. 😊
Amanda, I am new to hexie's. When do you remove the cardboard?
You remove the cardboard from a hexie after all its sides are completely sewn to other hexies.
Hello Amanda. do you baste through the cardboard template. and then sew together outside the template to connect the hexi fabric? thanks:-)
+Denise Braybrooke Yes and yes! :D
Great tutorial! Thank you :)
You're more than welcome! I'm glad you enjoyed it :)
For your 2.5" hexie, what size square do you start out with? It looked like 3.5 maybe 4"? Thanks!
Thank you! Finding this when I just needed it… basted my first set of hexis with glue and it was a disaster. Your method looks so much neater and easier 💕
Thanks so much! 💗💜☺️
great video, thank you

Have you done any other shapes for quilts I am trying to teach my self how to make quilts
Very nice.
Can you use file folder for the Hexies ?
Thank you 💕
Ao lavar o papel NÃO se desfaz?!!!
PARABÉNS desde PORTUGAL.
Do you have to use cardboard or is paper okay
Thank you..I'm a hexi lover..So darn cute :-)

A hexie is measured by how long each flat side is (rather than its diameter).
What size needle do you use? I want to make sure it goes through the card without difficulty.
snowbird62869 I always use a size no.7 embroidery needle. I find that the eye is bigger enough for most threads to go through and that the length and strength of the needle is perfect for most projects.
What is the brand name of your orange hexie templates? I'd like to purchase them.
The templates I show and use are from the brand Sew Easy. This particular set is called a '9 Piece Hexagon Template Set' and I bought it from my local Spotlight for around $20.
How do you remove the cardboard and when?
Beautiful, at what stage do you remove the cardboard or it stays in the hexagon
Once you've sewn all of your hexies together into a flower or design, you take out the basting stitches and then the cardboard.
I show this stage in this Hexie Flower Quilt Label tutorial if you're interested: ua-cam.com/video/joYCkbHIK3g/v-deo.html
Cute
I'm new and I see where most quilter's use wax paper.
Nice

👌🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻
Why stitch it to the cardboard.
Basting the fabric to cardboard or template helps to create the hexagon shape.
