No it's really not. Same set of notes, but it's a completely different scale with a different sound and use. That would be like saying that E Minor and G Major are the same, which would be utter nonesense.

I love the Lydian dominant! I actually used it in my solo in "A New Day Dawns" a couple years ago (posted on my channel). To me, it represented a kind of chaos and inbalance that can offset a typical day (which we introverts don't respond well too, lol) before resolving back to the main major feel of the overall song. It's an instrumental, but you might like it. (And maybe it'll give you some ideas in finishing your album. Looking forward to hearing it.) I like your channel and your posts. Keep up the great work as always, brother.

I just fail to grasp odd time signature concept and this video brought me one step closer very interesting also how you explained your creative process in coming up with super proggy riff thanks
I tended to employ the dominant lydian when I'm improvising in prog style. And it was very natural to me. I was emphasising on the major 3rd and the difference between the perfect 5th and the diminished 5th and I used to focus on the minor 7th to darken the riff for example. ^^

I've never really thought something could be heavy in a major key, but Lydian Dominant is a very cool scale for that, Phrygian Dominant is another good scale (doesn't sound major, but has a major 1 chord lol)
Love this, it is so creative... but maybe you did not notice that while you play a 9/8 measure, your on screen bouncing display of the meter shows an 8th note, rather than a quarter to complete the full 9 as played. You should mention that even though the note G isn't in the key, the power chord is perfectly allowed because the 5th is the most related note(other than the octave) to the root in that power chord. To be clear, when you play the C you hear a G in it anyway(as an overtone).

We have all those classical devices of classic composition, for,example the video: what is a melody by Bernstein, but There is no real systemization. What intervals are used in regards to chords and scales, popular examples, how melody and lyrics are related to another, how singers come up with melodies, if they start before beat 1, what common schemes are used in popular music nowadays? I am dying to understand this, do you think it’s worth a shot to make a video about it? I’m interested what you’d come up with :)
Imagine Dream Theater having Lydian Dominant, Phrygian Dominant, Harmonic Minor, Mixolydian, and most important, odd time signature. Although prog band really have those but to me, DT is really everything. And I can't be bored with Dream Theater. We can really explore the music theory with Proggresive rock/metal.
I think Overture 1928/Strange Deja Vu by Dream Theater is in Lydian Dominant for the most part. Very cool. Just got my hands on a 7-string so I might just have to experiment with some of this djenty stuff.
4:05 The only issue is that adding a natural fourth makes it a mixolydian with occasional #4. Just like Day Tripper by The Beatles is in E mixolydian with occasional b3 and b6

More prog rock in my opinion. Not much of djent
Not with a standard tuned six string, that's for sure. Could probably pull off some cool djent stuff in Lydian dominant with a 7 string, though.
You need more strings for that. Open 7th is a must, even 8/9th are really helpful.

Djent is all about ambient layers, and tone-heavy bass. The guitar is the centerpiece, but the rest is what guides the ears to it, framing the melody.

As Djent on a six string in standard tuning. Periphery does six string Djent in Drop-C.
Great Melodic minor mode theory and the ubiquitous lydian dominant scale. The rhythmic patterns remind me of Frank Zappa.
