Where was this during my university years?! This is a great way of organizing your thoughts while reading through a scientific paper. I also struggle with information retention, especially when i've read over a hundred papers on roughly the same subject!
I am a Counseling Psychology student studying for my B.S. degree and this method has been helping me keep my research straight and improving my retention of information! Thank you for sharing this technique.
Thanks so very much! I read the abstract then the introduction then each other section. I also try to summarize each section in my own words. I love your techniques, I am a first year student in Physical Oceanography, so still learning life as a graduate student
I love your deep dive videos into scientific papers! I have been watching your video since my junior year in College, now I am a master student. Your videos have been very helpful. Thanks!
I'm a "do your own research: guy, and I found this video tremendously helpful. I've found that when I have a question about the world, it's probably already been answered! Scientific papers have settled bar arguments for me, but I never really approached them systematically. I will integrate some elements of your process into my own, so I have a more rigorous understanding of what I'm reading. Now if I could only master calculus...
I am about to start writing my masters thesis and it is like I will have to read most of the papers I read in the early days of proposal writing again. I wish I had been more organized about the whole thing but now I know why and how. Such great content you have shared. Thank you.
Good video though in general I might skim/ quick check the methods & focus on the abstract, intro & conclusion first time around. A solid conclusion is crucial to understanding the discoveries/ why they're relevant imo, & short "half-assed" conclusions make me feel skeptical of the whole paper
Agreed! I also get very frustrated when the discussion is really long-winded - if you can't give your paper a good punchy ending then I don't bother reading it.
If this is truly the way you always read papers, why do you not make a template of this to work with? Ruling those tables just seems like the biggest waste of time if you are doing it over and over again. Would it not be better to make a template in Word and print a stack of these ready to go?
thank u for ur tips it will help me a lot althought the kind of articles i'm trying to read have a really different structure than the normal but i'll follow through thanks
Great videos subscribed channel and watched 2-3 videos in night, the way of explaining is great not boring but innovative. Kindly make some more videos on writings, problems of researchers ms,phd. Writing thesis, writing review paper and other subjects.
Hi Tara Anne - thanks for the lovely comment :) Sure, I have one more vlog coming out next and then will try and tackle a more informative video! If you have any topics you'd like me to cover, just let me know!
Telly'sMarineTales Hmm, I know you have already talked about your research, but a whole video about stingrays would be super cool I think...also, I was wondering what kind of computer/programming stuff you have to do for research
Haha I am always happy to talk about stingrays :D Awesome, thanks for those suggestions. Will definitely try and squeeze in a video or two covering those topics! Somebody else also asked for a video regarding the programming side of things - so that one is definitely on the cards.
Great video! Am still in college but next Wednesday i will be going on my first field course( analysis of biodiversity ..etc) and write a report at the end. Thanks for your video was very handy XD love it. Btw i would like to ask you is it really required to have biology to do marine science cause i do not study but having be doing it in small classes but i can manage and learn very fast.
I'm glad you enjoyed the video and found it helpful! Good luck with your first field course, hope its going to be amazing! I don't quite understand your question - are you wanting to study marine science or to get a job in marine science? Because if you want to study, your classes will be very helpful in getting admitted to study, but you would have to double check the requirements of the university. If you are wanting to work in marine science, I would say it would be very difficult to get a job without some kind of formal training in the biological field... I hope that helps?
thank u so much for your amazing video i watched and really got new ideas that i did not before with me ... i have a one question that make my intrest more after watching this video . how can i select my material firstly before knowing about their properties ? i really need ur suggeations..
Thanks! Now that's a trickier question! Some tips from me is to get rid of distraction - no emails, social media, phone etc., use the Pomodoro technique where you work for 25mins and break for 5, setting a timer really encourages you to get going. And just start, its' much easier once you've just started :)
Thank you! Um wow - that is an incredibly broad question haha. Would you be interested in text books, popular science books, etc.? And what areas are you interested in?
That really depends on so may many factors - how long is the matter you're reading, what is the purpose of your reading (do you need to go into a lot of details or are you just skimming the paper), how much you have read before. So impossible to say :)
Check the video description: "I am Chantel Elston, a second year marine biology PhD student. Join me on my journey as I discover our wonderful oceans and try to survive PhD life."

I believe writing down is very important. Thanks !

Did u finish it
Hi could make a video on literature review writing!
Thank you so much! I am going to try using this method for my work, it seems a really great way to make notes (and sense) of academic papers!
This is the best I have ever heard! A very effective approach.

Thanks, good to have listened to you...

How to get best references for your thesis? I know research gate only.
I have to admit that I pretty much largely rely on Google Scholar
Great video! But how to cope with procrastination? I can't get rid of it. Any suggestions?

Sorry about the question, but ¿what plant is it on the backround?

How long does it take you to analyze a paper?
How much stipend do u got for ur phd
