Where was the Good Friday Agreement signed? Why is it so hard to find out the location of where it was signed? All I can find on Google is that it was signed in Belfast. That’s vague. I want to know the exact location of where it was signed.
It was negotiated and signed in the Castle Buildings, which are on the Stormont Estate. They are now used by the Departments of Health and Justice in the Northern Ireland government. Postcode BT4 3SQ.
As David Boothroyd said, the agreement was made at Castle Buildings on the Stormont Estate. Castle Buildings is a pair of rather bland office buildings towards the east of the estate away from the more picturesque areas. When I was studying for my politics A-level we had modules about Northern Ireland (because I was studying in Northern Ireland). We were told to always say that the agreement was made, not signed. Apparently no one had to sign anything to make the agreement.
i remember this moment so well. Although not having any involvement with N I in anyway, I was so happy . Only other moments I saw the news and was so happy 1 President Sadat Landing at Tel Aviv, the first step towards peace between Israel aad Egypt in 1977 and the signing of the Oslo accords at the White House.
Hardly. At the time Major left office, negotiations between the main people in Northern Ireland had not yet begun. Major may have done much to allow them but the real work didn't start until after he had left office.
I remember watching this at 17 years old.
25 years ago today

Amazing to see this upload - thanks. So many memories, that day. Blair did the unimaginable. So deeply sad - Iraq. LBJ, Vietnam, Blair, Iraq.
Friday 10th April 1998
Wheres the sound?
Bertie Ahern was dressed in black due to the death of his mother
And his a politician they need to dress smart also.
@@RobertK1993 Well he was in mourning Robert
@@johnking5174 Yes his reputation later years became controversial like Blair m

I was only 4 years old when the Good Friday Agreement was signed
John Major and others did all the hard work a few years earlier, but Blair got all the credit 😠😠

@@DBIVUK So how much credit would you give to Blair? Considering he'd only been in power for about 11 months.
@@WillScarlet1991 a lot more than Major did. It was leaders like McGuinness, Trimble and Hume that truly built peace on this island.
This is palpably untrue. By the words of all involved, there was a huge difference.
@@WillScarlet1991 he had been speaking to Bertie for months before, agreeing an approach.
Why Is It Snowing In Northern Ireland?.
hmmmmm, I do wonder...
Because it's a sign of global warming
Statistically, a white Easter is more likely than a white Christmas in Northern Ireland.
Because geography is a bitch.
Missed the start?? I wonder why.
RTE News had better coverage 24-7
on this day event
Northern Ireland knew peace 10th April 1998-present.
This was just 3 days after I was born
Ian Paisley said this was surrender to IRA but he forgot that in 2006
He forgot it because Blair warned him if he didn't come into government with Sinn Fein, he would lose his fat salary and expenses. Money talked.
