This song is and always was a masterpiece. So many elements of classical composition among being a tough ass tune. A lot of Metallica fans are salty because people arrived to this tune through a popular TV show instead of through the usual music/metal rite of passage. As I understand, Metallica themselves shut down a hardcore fan denouncing the association with the show in a thread on one of the socials. Let's enjoy seeing the bands we love get put back into circulation, regardless of how they get back up there. Besides...has there ever been a scene more metal than Eddie shredding Puppets on a B.C. Rich Warlock atop a beat up house trailer in an alternate dimension with red lightning cracking in the background and demon bats on the way to attack? Bet B.C. The part where you're talking about Cliff playing the driving bass line without muddying up the individual notes from the guitars is something that I think is really important. So often I hear bass players parroting the notes the guitar players are playing, and I think it works sometimes, but most of the time I want to hear the bass also reinforcing it's connection to the drums. If the bass is always chasing the guitar line it's sort of leaving the drums hanging to my ear. This is the perfect example of the bass connecting to both the guitars and drums and using the entire space in a good way without simply parroting one or the other. He's staying with the beat and throwing a note to the guitars when necessary to help beef up their end. It must have been a real pleasure to jam with him.

@@brookinghouseof9457 stop with the load and reload comments acting like they wouldn't happen if cliff were around the reality is they would have likely went that direction quicker with cliff still alive his influence on the band and his wide variety of musical taste is one of the main influences on metallica wanting to experiment with those albums. Cliff had the widest musical taste of any of the band members by far. He liked everything from classic rock to classical music etc. He wasn't just all about metal like everyone nowadays wants to make it seem like he was. They also wrongly assume stuff like load would never happen with him in the band still and anyone who thinks this way just don't know what they're talking about or know that much about cliff to be honest. Either that or they just repeat what others say online likely both.

there is just something about the melodic part of this song as well as Orion that just takes me to another place. i am instantly 16 again, specters of my friends and i packed into a car and driving around all night. repeated hundreds of times in what is now a different place and time. more like visions of a past lives than memories of youth. Cliff was like some patron Saint to us all, and like the first great loss of our youths like one of our own fallen.

@Shockheadd45Enter Sandman is an overplayed, sellout pop metal, borderline hard rock 'hit' written by a metal band which at the time was clearly going for success on the radio. Its a gateway song for people who have never listened to metal before and it has nothing on this masterpiece or some of their other stuff from their heyday, not musically, not energetically, and certainly not in terms of depth and dynamics.
*they mixed that with groove, nuance and melody*
---> Like those aren't already present in Master Of Puppets. Enter Sandman released on any prior album wouldn't have made a dent, Puppets is a timeless thrash / heavy metal classic.
*which is exactly how Metallica started*
----> Enter Sandman doesn't sound anything like what they sounded like when they 'started', please go and get your ears checked.
