Transcription of "Advocacy Video Series - Part 16" produced by Rooted in Rights Part 16 - Even more Kinemaster! So, we are using the Trim and Split tools to go all the way down our hosting rewatch, and keep just the best bits. And we're cutting out all the bits that we don't need. Maybe that wasn't the best take; maybe we just don't want to say that anymore. But basically, what we're trying to do is pull out all the stuff we don't want in the final. Now, it shouldn't be perfect right now. It can be messy, it doesn't have to be exactly right. But the main point is to condense your story Into the best bits. Now this is just the hosting; we have not brought B-roll in yet. We're not worried about any of the other columns on the script template. We're just looking at hosting. And we're just trying to make the best story that we can from what we have filmed. So you're going to keep watching, re-watching, and trimming out the pieces that you don't like. Now, you don't have to do it this way; you can also only pull in the pieces that you like. But, that's not how I do it. So I'm telling you how I do it; you can do it however you want. But I find the subtracting method to be easier, but other folks prefer it the other way. So a big part of editing, too, is just figuring out what works for you; getting into a rhythm with it, figuring out what your style is, what your flow is, and what's easiest for you. Don't make it hard if you don't have to. Once you have consolidated down the best bits of hosting, you've picked the best parts of hosting, that is what we refer to as the "Stringout." It is a thread of all of the best parts of your story. When you feel very confident (or pretty close to confident), about how your hosting has come together - you feel like it tells a good story, it makes the points you want to make - then we can move on to the next level of video editing, which is adding in the B-roll, which we're going to do using the Layer tool. The Layer tool is also on the click wheel, and it is to the left of the Media Folder. You're going to select the Layer tool to bring up some options. When you select the Layer tool, another window opens up. The very first option is the Media option; this is the one we want. When you select Media, it's going to bring up the same options as before, where you have access to all of your media. Here, you'll want to add the B-roll that you already filmed. So, in this example, I pulled in me as a lemon on top of me hosting, and you can see that an additional layer has been added underneath of our hosting layer. End of Transcript
