Lived in Cha Am, a little bit down the beach shore. I loved seashore life. The biggest bonus of this area relates to the Govenor of the province. He instructs the cops to leave farangs alone except to provide help when needed. Many farangs live here, sub divisions full of them. Very good place to live, just stay out of downtown on weekends, too busy with thai tourists.

Best meal I've had in Thailand was on the fishing pier in Cha'am. Live seafood went from swimming in a tank to sizzling on a plate in 5 minutes; plans, crab, scallops and fish. A beautiful night watching the shrimp boats go out, enjoying buckets of ice cold Heinekins and world class seafood. What a night.

My Thai girlfriend of 5 years and I have a block of land not far from the beach...We should have started to build 2 years ago but Covid -19 put a stop to that.....The land was purchased for around 400,000TBH with the build estimated to be around 500,000TBH....We love Cha Am for its un - commercialized setting as opposed to Hua Hin......looking forward to resume our plans later this year.....All the best to you guys for 2022!

Cha Am reminds my of a Spanish seaside resort from the eighties. I really felt like I’d been teleported back decades on a recent visit. But that’s a large part of its charm.

I agree Cha Am is a good "transition" place.
    - It has that "Goldilocks" size, not too big but big enough to have restaurants, medical, Govt, public transportation, Farang friendly services and shopping, etc.
Cha Am is close to Hua Hin for more services.
    -- I am surprised it doesn't have a boardwalk.
It's difficult to walk along the "beach".
++ Another good vid. Keep-em coming.

I stayed (holiday) in Hua Hin ...about 10 years ago. Loved ...Hua Hin ...but the bar scene was creeping in ...which is not a big deal for me as I enjoy a beer. We did a day trip to Cha Am (10 years ago) to have a look ...I was not overly impressed ...BUT ...10 YEARS LATER ...it is looking good. Thanks for your videos.

If you like a beach town like Pattaya without the busy international touristy scene, then Cha Am is the place for you. Many Thais in Bangkok prefer to spend the weekend in Cha Am over Pattaya. I also think the beaches are bit cleaner on this side of the gulf.

Hi Chuck, I agree Cha Am Is a good entry point for foreigners, but it might be a bit too deep for some foreigners with limited international travel experience. Thai culture is easy to adapt to, but the absence of English can be intimidating. I would say it is a plus for potential expats who are comfortable living alone.

Hey Chuck and Paige, another great video. I like the Cha-Am area myself. Only been a few times but yes I do believe it makes for a beautiful first-time place to live. I find it to be more of a Thai hangout more than anything else. A lot of Thai people go there especially from Bangkok probably because it's so close to the Big City and easy to get to.
I have been there in both summer and winter and find it to be about the same during both seasons.
My Girlfriend has never been to the beach and I think I will be taking her there for a 3 or 4 day trip once she gets to feeling better. She just had open heart surgery so she can't do much right now.

I agree with your choice for transition into Thai society. Cha-am has a good mix of Thai and western outlets for food to help westerners feel not too far from home. Prices are more on the reasonable side. My family usually aim for Hua Hin (city section). On our way back we will stop at Le Baget, a sandwich/bakery/coffee shop that has ques of westerners in line for their subs and kishes every time we psss by. Their butter fingers are my daughter's favoriteroad trip snack. Hope your mother find Cha-am a comfortable residence for a retirement.

The problem with Cha Am is the beach is a bit cr@p being so close to Bangkok and the top of the Gulf. The beeches get steadily nicer the further south you go. Also Cha Am is a popular Thai tourist area due to its proximity to Bangkok, and if you are going to retire the last thing you need is tourists clogging up your daily routine 😑😁

To immigrate to another country can present a number difficulties for the newcomer.
Not knowing the language, understanding the culture, no close support structure from family/friends and lack of know how to get around will make adjusting to life in a new country difficult.
Your looking about a year for most people to adjust to their new life in a new country.
It will be a big help if your mom has an independent spirit, taken the time to learn as much as she can about Thailand before moving.
I my opinion she should live with you.
Maybe better just to stay in Texas for her happiness.

    • @alana8580
      @alana8580 2 роки тому +1

What I wrote comes from my personal experiences dealing with a large number of immigrants that have moved to my country.
Where I live, there is a lot more support and opportunity for these immigrants to adjust to life in my country. Than Thailand offers a foreigner wanting to reside in their country.
Remember, in Thailand your always a guest. (Extremely hard to become a Thai citizen.)
Not the case in a number of other countries.

There are many beautiful places but as you said you are on your own (remember blokes usually have girls without which they are helpless) and these places are more isolated with associated language transport or lack of it problems.
