    Beautifully done video and perhaps the most graceful finish to the WURL. You barely looked phased! Well done!

    I’ve done all the pieces over the last 10 years (I have 82 Pfeiff summits) and I think this 59 year old is finally ready to give it a go! My little brother Matt I think was the 3rd WURLy!

      You had said that you grew up around there. Had you done most of the peaks on their own, prior to attempting the full wurl? It's been on my radar for a few years, but it seems like there's a huge benefit to prior experience on some of those peaks. I don't mind loose rocks, scrambling and exposure, but trying to navigate that type of terrain in the dark without prior knowledge of the route seems pretty sketch.

    • @HavenTents
      @HavenTents  2 роки тому +1

      Yes. I had done 90% of the route the summer before I did the WURL (in August). I wish I had done 100% the 10% of unknown was rough… 😅😅

    This was awesome -- this has been on my list for several years now after I saw Mediocre do it on their channel. I live down in AZ in Scottsdale -- ironically, I was in the SLC area when you did this (edit, nevermind, I was there just in 2023 August) I had a work event in park city. I did Gobbler's Knob and Raymond 8/23, Olympus 8/24, and Pfeifferhorn 8.26, before hitting Kings and then the Grand Teton before flying home. I have a relatively new hiking channel with a lot of stuff on it. This upcoming summer, I want to do the WURL, so if you wanna do it again lmk! But otherwise, I'll probably want to pick your brain on beta as I haven't done a ton research on it, but I'm no stranger to long hard hikes

    Devils castle at night must have been fun. What’s the part with the most exposure?

    • @HavenTents
      @HavenTents  3 роки тому

      Luckily I had done the Devils Castle segment a few weeks earlier, so I had it fresh in my mind. But yeah, crazy to just see black edges…
      The first third has the most exposure. The ridge from Twin Peaks to Alta. Especially around Monte Cristo. That’s the video intro. Not technical but exposed for sure.

    Awesome video! Also from the valley and have done a couple of these peaks. I can’t imagine doing it all in one go but I’d really like to one day. I’m curious what peak/ridge section you think is the most technical and sketchy?

    • @HavenTents
      @HavenTents  3 роки тому +1

      Thanks! The most technical section is the ridge from twin peaks to Alta.. the first third. The second third has devils castle and the back third isn’t easy either, especially with the mental and physical fatigue. Best of luck, stay safe, take your time!

  • @bradford6583

    Does the Ferguson trail go to the twin peaks? Is it a hard trail to stay on?

    • @HavenTents
      @HavenTents  Рік тому

      Hey! The Ferguson Canyon Trail in Utah is popular, but it doesn't go directly to Twin Peaks. The Ferguson Canyon Trail primarily leads to a waterfall, and reaching the Twin Peaks typically involves taking a separate route. ✌️

  • @tommiv4953

    Rough terrain. Do you think that hiking poles would have helped or hindered?

    • @HavenTents
      @HavenTents  3 роки тому +2

      I went back-and-forth on the poles. I think the one place they would come in handy is descending from the lone peak ridge down to Bell Canyon (the notch). Because you have a mix of rock and sand.
      Everywhere else with trail is pretty easy to navigate… and poles would be a real hassle in the rock scrambling.
      I guess it would be nice for navigating some of the flat boulder fields too.

    What was your training like for this? Eg. vert/mileage on long outings. Such a huge feat!

    • @HavenTents
      @HavenTents  3 роки тому

      So I’ve always been active. But every week this spring/summer I’d log one long hike (average 8-9 miles) and something small. I also used the training to scout and familiarize myself with the route.
      Even then. I trained enough to survive, not thrive 😂

      @@dayneeastman1316 great Q! It was getting very hot day 2… my whole weather plan kind of fell apart. So I gave it to one of the hikers I met to carry down. Not sure what he did with it. But it was timely for sure.
