- In this video I will take a walk around Walsall town centre. Walsall is a very large town in the West Midlands of England. It’s Friday night on the first of September 2023. #walsall #walsalltowncentre #walsallnightlife #walsallbars #walsallpubs #walsallclubs #nightlife #nightwalk
Wow what happened to Walsall used to have some of the best nights out I’ve ever had in Walsall
I was born and raised in Walsall and used to regularly go out in my late teens through mid twenties (around early 2000s). WS1, Revolution, and Sofa Sofa were my hangouts. Back then the place would've been absolutely heaving. Walsall has always been a chav-ridden s***hole and I don't think I ever had a night out there without witnessing at least one fight, but it genuinely saddens me to see how far it has fallen. I left a few years ago and moved to Hertfordshire, and getting out of there was the best decision I ever made.
Used to use Maxis nightclub down there in Bridge Street over 40 years ago and the Dirty Duck just further on. As a kid used to go into the Co-op where the Makoto bar is now, upstairs to the toy department. Blue Coat school in Ablewell Street and up the Chuckery. The Dilke on the Melish Road into Aldridge, Walsall market etc etc the list goes on. Such a cracking town Walsall used to be years ago, unrecognisable now to how it used to be.
Had some great nights in The Dilke in the 1970’s/80’s
Seems those of us who escaped aren't in a rush to go back,... if you grew up there, you get it
Go back!
Had some of my happiest times here in the 80s. What a great party town it was. Moved to the south in 96 as I could see it was going downhill. It's so sad to see it now. It's gone forever.
Back in the nineties Walsall was buzzing, my favourite haunt was the Watering Trough in the town and the Duke of York in the Chuckery, where I used to live.
Walsall is a sad sight these days that's for sure.
Sounds like you had some good times in Walsall back in the 90’s.
In the 80s and 90s this place was banging...had some great nights here....but I'm lost for words...in the words of the specials....🤔🤔🤔
This Town, ( the Specials).....
Too much fighting on the dance floor…
This used to be my go to every weekend. Start in black swan i think it was called right on the corner opposite the court house. Then down to bushwackers, pound a drink corner till chuck out & Fernando playing the undertaker tune. Crawl to harleys whilst trying not to break ya neck down the steps. 2am, over the road for kebab, or pizza from chicos back opposite the court. Some fantastic memories. The occasional fists, but never blades & it was all forgotten the week after.
Started of in the Town Hall Disco 70s then various in the 80/90s it was rockin looks like a ghost town now with a eirey unsafe feeling i did one in the nineties 😂👍🦊 20 years in mid Wales the last 5 in Andalusia 😓😎👍🦊
What’s happend to Walsall will happen in a town or city near you in the next few years
This was a vibrant place 20 years ago.. Now it’s a no go zone
I live in Walsall town centre and it used to be even more of an anti-social nightmare after dark. Personally I prefer the peace and quiet thankyou
Anybody remember the painted wagon?
All by design
Massive immigration and massive multi multiculturalism has changed the face (and race) of Walsall, and has totally changed 1,000's of Urban areas in the UK. Changed, radically changed, for ever more.
Most of the residents have to be up at 4 for prayer plus they don’t drink, it’s now just a dumping ground for the dingy gangs
I live in walsall and must admit its going to crap! Was way better back in the early 2000s with the market and stuff nothings open no more all the shops are shutting! And let's not forget walsall is very very dangerous ! The last 2 years so many stabbings , shootings etc! I do NOT go out ! If I go shopping to town I stay the top end of town near waterfront and go to aldi with my partner I never ever go out alone! If dont drink through but even if I did i would not be walking or going to walsall at all even for a night out especially!! You are one brave man 👨
Good old multiculturalism.
Such a shame about the markets, it used to start from where ASDA is all the way down to Lloyds Bank and up the high street. But these days it's just a bunch of fruit & veg stands and not much else
Sad to see a deserted Walsall , back in the day it was the place to be ............
Would have been heaving on a Friday night in the seventies. You walked past the Dirty Duck or what was the Duck on your left side, about 1:50 or so looking straight at it at 17:10, a very popular pub and the reason I moved to Walsall all those years ago :)
I now live close to Berlin but visit once a year or so, post industrial decline, thanks Maggie, and she's the reason I left ..
Had some of the best nights in Walsall from 2007 to 2014 I use to end up in ws1 or insomnia. how can it change so much I struggle to find 1 decent place down here now it's end of a era now from the best nights I had down here definitely be going to a new town from now on unless they open some new places down here the town use to be full at 11pm so shocking to see
I really miss The Talbot pub, frequented by bikers and metal heads, met a girl in there in the late 80s and thirty years later she became my wife.
Had some great nights in Walsall late 90's early 2000's sad to see it like this. Most people just stay home now. e
Even Lichfield which is lovely can feel dangerous at night these days.
Wow as someone who worked in the nightclub sector of Walsall for a few years during the early 2000’s this is shocking how it has fallen off a cliff. There used to be queues up the street to get into WS1 and Revolution Bar opposite from opening to closing time. Pubs and bars like The Old Court House, Varsity, Yates and Hogshead were always rammed on the weekends, with Harley’s at Bradford Place being the last stop for most.
The town used to be mega busy on Wednesday nights with Student night from University of Wolverhampton and Thursday nights with Varsity running £1 a drink and WS1 going one better with 50p drinks for the first hour then £1 a drink until closing.
You never felt unsafe in the town at night, the clubs would send the girls out ticketing in the town centre and the worst violence you saw was a punch up. Sad to see the decline in nightlife in general really.
It’s mad how things have changed over the years. Will be uploading a Saturday night walk soon.
Other good live band venue was junction 10 club, saw the late great steve marriott there brilliant,
I thought it was just wolves that turned to a ghost town . Walsall used to be the place to go . Now looks like the place to go for abit of peace and quiet lol
I remember working in Coventry in the early naughties when I stayed in the centre - it was exactly the same.
It's become the Chicago of Britain... Devastating and absolutely despeakable.
You mean Detroit. Chicago is the one where young people cause havoc in the streets
Knowbody goes walsall with any sense you brave to be walking around that time of night there be carefull mate .
Thanks Andrew, yes I had to walk through the market area pretty quick 😅👍
@@vloggingnomaduk I agree but I used to go walking every Saturday morning up cannock chase and tbh I spent most of my time arguing with idiots with aggressive dogs or treading on sh..t .
Most towns across the country are like this
Walsall was ace when I was growing up, loads of places to go, I live and work in Wigan now but still Come down to watch the saddlers when I can, I can’t believe how dead the town is now, I don’t bother going into town when I come down, just stay in the bar at my hotel, one because it’s safer but 2 because there’s nowhere to go in town! Such a shame!
Quite sad to see. When I went to Walsall on nights out, 2009 till around 2014 when I lived there, those streets and clubs would be crowded at 11pm on a Friday or Saturday night.
Mid 1970`s Walsall was the place to be. We did stag parties and Christmas breaking up from work parties. The Starting Gate was the meet up point, then The Tavern in the Town, off to The Talbot up the market. Other pubs were, Duke Of Wellington/ Duke of York The Royal Hotel, The County Hotel, The New Inns up Park Street and because the pubs closed at 11 on Fri/Sat night it was straight in the Royal India for a few more beers and a damn good curry. Great times, not so good now.
Sounds like good night out back in the day. Many of the towns in the midlands seem to be going the same way, Friday nights are quiet nearly everywhere.
This honestly breaks my heart a little, 10-15 years ago the town would be heaving at that time, so many good times, was my weekly go to, can’t believe what’s happened to the place.
Totally agree, it’s much quieter than a few years ago.
I work in the town centre, till about midnight most nights, the reason the town has got like this is because of the lack of policing, it has become to0 dangerous to be there, with gangs of youths from age 10 up, drunks, and drugies roaming the streets doing whatever they want whilst the police sit in there little room in the council building and dont come out
@@stumason7963 yes, insane that they closed the big police station and the nearest one is in Aldridge. Shameful
Grew up there myself....but left once i had the chance...wanted more out of life.
(Now in Brighton via Wiltshire and Yorkshire).
One thing i did notice was no homeless or beggars in the doorways.
They go where the money is, so into Birmingham to make a few quid... meanwhile Brighton ship their homeless up this way, it's why I'm here.
Absolutely thrilling.😂
Remember early 2000s Walsall was buzzing most nights of the week with uni students from across the country and locals. I worked at Chicago's from just a month after it opened and it was rammed every Wednesday Thursday Friday Saturday and Sunday. Walsall's Popularity started to die off a bit but was dealt a hefty blow in 2010 and the conservatives grand Austerity Idea to punish all people who kept Walsall and similar town's going.
Ever in the area again let me know keep up the good work ✌️💯
Will do!
30 yrs ago, the 5th nightclub it used to be ace
Good God the traffic is appallingly bad. What they need is a ULEZ scheme and more pedestrianization, that way the skateboarders and the electric scooters can finally have some room to play.
Ripping it down the town centre high street full speed on a scooter is one of the reasons I love Walsall, well until a car that’s not supposed to be allowed drives down that road 🥲
Typical taxi driver at 05.13. speeding and jumping a red light, only to get caught at the next set.
Ghost Town . No body goes there, not the whites and not the foreigners either. Ghost Town. Depressed, run down and dangerous. Thank you for documenting this.
Walsall ain't the same since the street girls moved on we used to have good times 😊
Walsall as changed mate I left 19uears ago now I would not go back
All that is missing is some tumbleweed!
4:43 there's a load of it growing out of the estate agents foundations... Or is that what the estate agent would call a "compact front garden to the property!"
Walsall has really gone down the shitter, as others have said in the late 90's and early 00's the town was quite lively at the weekend. I suspect it is a similar story in many towns around the UK.
Walsall is dead town unfortunately. Nearby Town's ie West Bromwich and Willenhall are the same 😔
At least no one was stabbed that night
To run a venue anywhere you have to weigh up the costs against any money coming in... given how much money the council are spending on lighting a ghost town they should shut the whole place down overnight.
Everyone at home watching anime and playing Starfield and Stardew valley fam, noone wanna bother going out into the cold and spend £10 for a double vodka these days when you can buy a 1l bottle for £12 and get fucked up with the heating on lmaoooo
Looking at the date and time stamp on this clip, I had just returned from a day trip to the lively, active city of Portsmouth. And then..deary Walsall. It has got a lot worse during the day, shop and market wise, and seems just as bad at night, just full of fast food shops and the multitude of pubs, bringing along the rowdy behaviour of the clientele at kicking out time. I wish I had stayed on the south coast, as Portsmouth has a lot more to offer.
Walsall was really quiet on that Friday night, it might have been because it was in the summer holidays and most people were away. Portsmouth sounds like a good place to vlog. Thanks for viewing 👍
On that day it was good going to Portsmouth, as the weather was hot and it was sunny all day, so a shorts and tee shirt day. On top of that, both of the carriers were in port so that was a good photo opportunity. One that I took advantage of.
@@vloggingnomaduk
Its dead what a shithole always was, years ago the truck stop at bloxwich with a night club at the back Hardy's was great the cafe was the kernel good food friendly staff and management who cared,
How tragic is that!
Couldnt beat the old penn and wig (tommys bar) happy days. Walsall still a shithole tho lol
It was said many years ago that in Wolverhampton anyone out after 10am must be up to no good. As a northerner of advanced age I found this amusing and it didn't lessen my appreciation of midlanders whom I have generally preferred to my Yorkist bretheren
Bring back harppers
Remind me never to visit this place
Stockport was like this 10 years ago now it's buzzing with bars and restaurants, it started with the monthly foodie Friday event and rebranding of the old town I'm sure something similar could happen here.
Sounds like Stockport is on the up, I will have to get over there soon for a walk 👍
@@vloggingnomaduk The market and underbank areas are brilliant now, hopefully Walsall can follow suit.
Not the way walsall council is running the area down willenhall is in a worse state
When there is more Chicken kebab and pizza shops than pubs and clubs and a population that has increased substantially that doesn't drink..you end up with ghost towns.
Most people go to brum or Lichfield now .. safer than walsall.
People are scared to venture out now and skint
Left 27 years ago to join the army and walsall was ok, I came back a few years ago and couldn't believe my eyes. Scum of the scum
I live in walsall and as a shopping place i wouldnt rate walsall town centre go to west brom or lichfield as they are much more varied in the shops they have and less homeless people and shoplifting
Seeing this , thsnk god I live in London 😅
Suttons dead aswell
lol nothin
Drug infested, cheap alcohol from off licences , and multiethnic communities have conspired to make Walsall a venue most people avoid especially at night.
Used to love wolverhampton in 90s the silver web the greyhound bill gavins the white hert the lord raglan happy days ❤
The cymidia out break killed walsall.
Completely DEAD.
A good night out is far too expensive these days. This is why everywhere is like this.
If in Walsall they probably go Brum for a night out, same with people in Bradford and Wakefield going Leeds
it`s a shit hole glad i moved to Shrewsbury 🏍
Yes it’s very nice in Shrewsbury.
Shrewsbury is gorgeous, looking at Shrewsbury and comparing to places like Walsall, Bradford and Middlesbrough you wouldn't think they were in the same country
