I found that you can screw the inside pieces in and they pop through the outside. If you upgrade the pump to a bigger pump you need the adapters but they will screw to the outside and the new pump will have its own hoses. This pool has two inlets and one outlet so you'll need a Tee fitting and an extra hose to use both but you don't have to because the pool comes with stoppers and you can put one in the inlet you aren't using until you get the Tee fitting and hose. I added an Intex larger pump and saltwater system and it works great. The pool came with no instructions and the ladder was too lightweight so I replaced it.
