I have been procrastinating about learning QGIS for a long time coz of how confusing the tutorials often get till I stumbled on your video. Thanks for making your QGIS video easy to follow and relatable to learn.
Your QGIS videos are great! I'm learning!!! When it comes to ArcGIS, it is so hard (for me) to split features. I am amazed at how QGIS can easily split features. Good job!
Hi Hal, thank you for such a great set of video tutorials. I'm new to QGIS and these are proving invaluable! I found your videos as I'm trying (and failing!) to join two disconnected polygons (i.e. you can see a gap between them). I can merge them into a single polygon (i.e. if I select one part they are both selected) but they still look like two separate shapes on the screen and I want to see them joined up. Any tips would be great! Thank you.
Hi! I'm struggling with something in Qgis (and with the language cause english is not my mother thonge haha). I need to create a polygon that "fits" perfectly on another polygon layer (a map of a country). I can draw the polygon more or less like the map, but its really dificult and not perfect. Do you know how can I do this? I'm pretty sure that must be some kind of tool for it, but I can't find it. Thanks!
If you are using QGIS 3.10, first right-click on the country layer in the Layer Window. Second, select DUPLICATE LAYER. Your new layer should have the same dimensions as your first one. Does that help?
They actually just added that feature its apart of the Advanced Digitizing Toolbar now. When you have clicked the split feature button make sure the Digitize with curve is activated as well. This will allow a similar function to split except it will curve on the third point placement. So when you click once go to the next position click again there should be a straight line connecting these, then go to the next position and you will see the original line curve.
Hello. I do not understand why I can't select my polygone. I use this steps -Layer-creat layer-New temporary scratch layer- name it and choose polygone as geometry type. Then click ok. Next what I do is creat polygone for example triangle, then layer styling opens, I close that window and go "select features by area or single click" option. Then I try to select triangle and it doesn't work. Am I doing something wrong?
Hello so if you are working with multiple layers make sure the layer you want to merge within is underlined. Let me know if that was the issue and thanks for watching and supporting channel

I am searching for a long time about this type of video on qgis. thanks a lot.
Nicely explained! Thank you!
this video is by far the clearest on this topic out there!
Appreciate you watching. Thanks.

Thank you so much!

Hello what is your first language?

For the split feature function, does it have an option to let you draw a curved line?
Kudos on another clear video, too.

@@HalHartQGIS Excellent, thank you kindly.

Make sure the layer that you are selecting within is underlined. If the layer is underlined the selection should work fine.
I have tried as you explained in the video but After merging at 4:57 a line still remains in the bigger triangle..why is that happening in my case?

My polygon is selected and the split feature function is greyed out (disabled) any thoughts?
You could have the polygon selected but be in the wrong layer.
So the active layer that is underlined is the layer on which the function will be performed.
You won't be able to split points though. So if you are on a point layer it will definitely gray it out.
'Split features' remains inactive after the 'select features'... help me
Hello. Make sure the layer you are working within is Active. The layer you want the change to occur in needs to be underlined.
