I became GM of a middle scale resort hotel. I started off as receptionist. I still hold strongly the most important and foundamental element of success is to wear the guests shoes. Caring nature is a must to have when you work in the hospital industry. Guests keep coming back without sakes and marketing gimicks.

Hello! May I ask how long it took you to become a gm? I'm starting out in the industry and I would love some advice too

There are different levels of service in hospitality. This man serves at the top end level. His clientele expects that. They know it’s part of their price. You heard him, he said, from time to time, they may offer a special. However, those deals are only when their ADR is at it’s lowest; most likely, during the off-season. If you’re looking for mid-level brand properties, your service is commensurate with room pricing. It’s the same thing with just staying overnight, just looking for a clean room, no frills. Then you have your limited-service type inns that basically are there for just an overnight stay. Hospitality has many levels of service based on the needs of its clientele.
