Today's video features the classic "So schön wie heut', so müsst' es bleiben" (Lit: It should stay as beautiful as it is today) composed by Franz Grothe and Willy Dehmel for the 1941 musical comedy "Tanz mit dem Kaiser" (Dance with the Emperor). The presented instrumental version was recorded by the Ufa Dance Orchestra under the direction of Wilhelm Greiss.
"Tanz mit dem Kaiser" starred Marika Rökk and Wolf Albach-Retty in the leading roles as well as Axel von Ambesser, Maria Eis and Hilde von Stolz. Based on "Die Nacht in Siebenbürgen" by Nikolaus Asztalos the movie which is set in 18th century Austria. Emperor Joseph II (Von ambesser) and his aide-de-camp Josef von Kleber (Albach-Retty) are visiting Siebenbürgen. Due to an accident with his carriage Josef ends up on the estate of baroness Christine von Alwin (Rökk). Instantly attracted, they spend the night together. Christine who knows Emperor Joseph II is visiting Siebenbürgen believes Von Kleber to be the emperor and writes him a letter. This letter ends up in the hands of Joseph's mother the Empress Maria-Theresia (Maria Eis) who is delighted her son has finally showed interest in a potential bride. Maria-Theresia invites Christine to the court in Vienna and soon complications arise...
"Tanz mit dem Kaiser" was commercially successful movie - even though it is considered one of Rökk's weaker Ufa movies.
The video features scenes from "Tanz mit dem Kaiser". These sequences have been restored, upscaled to a 4K resolution and colorized. The colorization is AI based and NOT historically accurate. It is purely intended for entertainment purposes and gives an impression of what the movie and its elaborate sets might have looked like. The software used includes Adobe Photoshop, Adobe Premiere and Topaz Video AI.
The record which is in excellent condition was transferred using a Graham Slee Revelation M Phono Preamp (bass Turnover 250 Hz - Rolloff 0) in combination with a Klark Teknik Tube Equalizer. The cartridge and stylus used is an Ortofon 2M78. Editing was done in Adobe Audition.
