On a snowy weekend in NYC, we "binged" on this over & over.
My friend described Lesley's beautiful neck in her Cinderella dress as the most exquisite neck he'd ever seen. She was/still is stunning.

I was a little girl (born in '58) when this movie came out. I watched it so many times in my life (I'm 65 now) watched it a week ago and I have the same admiration for that I did as a child.
Celeste Holmes made the most perfect fairy god mother, the pumpkin stagecoach, and Leslie's cinder spots on her cheeks as she sang 🎶'in my own little corner'🎶. I would cry as I watched that part.
Leslie was the most beautiful Cinderella and always will be.
She and Stuart were the perfect Prince and Princess.

The 1957 version is wonderful, but there is a brilliance to this. Magic like this doesn't happen very often. It really is a beautiful, timeless, well acted and wow, the singing! It really should be seen.

This movie is shown free on UA-cam now and I have watched it in the last month or so at least 25 times. I’ll always be nine years old again and head over heels in love with Stuart Damon each and every time I see it. Thank you Lesley. You are and will always be the only Cinderella!

As a child in the 60’s you only
got to see this once a year so it was
a BIG deal for me and my grandma would make the day very special I’d even wear my mothers wedding dress which had a crown veil.

I'm glad they picked Lesley Ann. She was just perfect for that roll of Cinderella. So preety and her acting was perfect. I also loved every one of the characters that worked in Cinderella.

I saw Cinderella for the 1st time when I was 6 on TV with my 5 year old sister. We were both enchanted by Lesley Ann Warren as Cinderella the moment we saw her. She was the best Cinderella ever, the music was wonderful, casting perfect. Thank you for posting this wonderful interview.

I was 5 when this was on CBS, we watched it and fell in love with the movie. Every year was a planned event with my sister and friends, I remember my mom saying how pretty Lesley Ann was! Stuart Damon was the perfect pairing as Prince Charming! I wonder if Lesley had a little crush on Stuart; being 18, playing Cinderella, wow! Lesley and Stuart were perfect for the roles, the singing is timeless! I purchased the movie digitally, so I can show my young students.

As an audience member says, Lesley Ann Warren is MY Cinderella and she is the standard by which all other Cinderellas are measured. I watched this on the day The Prince, Stuart Damon died, before I knew he had passed.

Richard Skipper in another interview suggests that in the public consciousness Cinderella is not Julie Andrews or Brandy. I agree. But to go back to the very beginning, for me, as a little boy, nothing can ever top the beautiful Walt Disney grafics of the annimated Cinderella of 1950. Today, she still takes my breath away. Then along came Lesley Ann Warren in the Rogers and Hammerstein CBS production that we all gravitated to. All it took was a little readjusting to a whole new different visual concept for the story. Brunette LAW was immediatedly loved nd excepted with her doe eyes charm and a golden ballgown trimed in ermine over the pale icy blue confection in the move.
Oh, Lesley Ann Warren, The Farmer's Daughter Motel! I looked for Inger Stevens there when mom would take me to The Farmer's Market. Grown up, I worked as a CBS page and marveled at it every day. Last I looked it was still there.
Jo Van Fleet was jealous of Lesley AW's charm and beauty so she kept her as a scullery maid. That is priceless! And dropping this shocker here on Lesley for the first time is worth the price of admission! HA! What do you think of that, LAW???
I am spellbound with my mouth agape over your Cinderella's crown/ ebay story. Now in its rightful place in Sherman Oaks, CA. Where I was raised and still live!
LA, I can well imagine you crying at the sight and purity of Cinderela after all these years. Me too. Eveybody too.

Outside of Disney, Brandy used to be my favorite Cinderella, but that was way back when. Lesley as Cinderella belongs in my household now! Lesley, my mom watched you when she was little, and thanks to UA-cam, I finally found your version at last! I've seen many girls play Cinderella, but you are the true Cinderella in my book! I will play your version of Cinderella in my house and your adaptation of Rodgers and Hammerstein's version will be the one that I play for my children and grandchildren over and over again! You are my number one favorite Cinderella in the whole world! After a rough day at school, or in general or what I'm just relaxing, I put your version of Cinderella on and hearing your voice helps me relax when I hear you sing! I was in an acting camp one summer, and the production they chose that year was Rodgers and Hammerstein's version of Cinderella! We even made up a character that was an assistant to the fairy godmother! She had several of them, I played one called Giggles that would laugh a lot! I also played one of the stepsisters. I wanted to play Cinderella like you, but that never happened to the music we used in our production was from your production! You're the best Cinderella out there! I will check out some of your other movies too! You are blessed with a gift and true talent from God. !I love you! I hope to meet you someday! God Bless!
    From your newest fan,
    Dara

Jo Van Fleet was a very fine character actress. She portrayed the Stepmother as more comic than villainous.

it wasnt that they didnt like the first version
the original version had been staged in london and in other local theater and was extremely popular
the original version, because it was shown live and only kinescoped, could not really be reshown....so they decided to make a second version...this time on videotape
recast and tweaked some thing and then you got the 65 version...which i watched throughout my childhood
to be honest, lesley doesnt have the strongest voice...but physically, she was perfect for the role

I think some of these shows and movies get caught up in ownership conflicts that prevent them from becoming commercially available. Try finding the original Stepford Wives movie. It's not available on DVD, Blu ray, streaming or as a digital copy. What the heck ?

Charles Dubin must be out of his mind! The 1957 Live "Cinderella" is neither "jazzy or modernized." It is set during the Regency Period, and Cinderella certainly is more empowered and has more agency in Hammerstein's 1957 teleplay than in the revised script poor Lesley Ann Warren and cast were given. Perhaps Rodgers did not like the 1957 telecast for personal reasons, but Lesley Ann Warren is forced by the script to play Cinderella as a total victim. Hammerstein never would have allowed this had he still been alive. People have a fondness for the 1965 version because it was videotaped and shown every year for a decade, but the 1957 (available now as a kinescope since 2004) and 1997 versions are far superior. Lesley Ann Warren is, however, a lovely person in every way. I doubt Dubin ever saw the 1957 original version. Lesley Ann Warren's version looks like it is set during the Renaissance period; 14th Century or something; the same period where Disney set his 1959 animated film "SLEEPING BEAUTY".

It is so disappointing that Dubin saw fit to trash the 1957 and 1997 TV productions of "CINDERELLA". And why in the world would he mention to Lesley Ann Warren that Jo Van Fleet was jealous of her and hated her.

  • @darrylwhite2061

Jo Van Fleet is bashed for all time. I wish Dubin could have hold off in saying that Van Fleet hating anyone. That was fair. Bad form!
