Where did you start your campaign? Would love to hear your stories!

I've used starting at the Witchlight Carnival, from the Wild Beyond the Witchlight campaign book, as a starting point for Curse of Strahd. My players absolutely loved it and had a good time, I ran it as it says in the book with a couple alterations for the games and the ending of the carnival (to lead them to Barovia).

Nice! Plus a very interesting way to start a curse of Strahd campaign. Glad to hear your players loved it as well. Thank you for sharing your experience

The way I started off my current campaign was the party waking up in a mass grave, apparently being dead mere moments ago. The currently only have the vaguest of memories leading up to their apparent deaths, with the clearest recent memories being going to a now destroyed castle (where their remains were found). As things currently stand (after 4 1/2 years), the cause of their deaths and resurrections are still a mystery, but they think they might be connected in some way to a prophecy and a lich, the latter of which has said the party was "a good choice". After the next boss fight, they will be able to find some clues as to how they died from the documents of one of the people responsible for their deaths, but the true meaning may still be lost on them.

Nice, at is a very interesting way to start a campaign and the fact it’s been running for 4 and a half years and the reason is still a mystery is amazing. I wish your players luck on their journey to discover the truth. Thank you for sharing as well as that sounds like a fascinating campaign

Aw shit why didn’t this video pop up earlier, I just started a campaign and went with such a vanilla approach as to………. yes, put them in a tavern.
Great video! I really love the idea of starting at a funeral. I’ll have to remember these for the next campaign! (in like…. 5 years)

Haha, sorry about that, but I do have other videos on puzzles you can use in your campaign if you like. There is nothing wrong with starting in a tavern, it’s a classic for a reason. Anyway good luck on the new campaign and hope everything goes well!
Thank you, yeah it’s weird but a funeral is a great start to a campaign, I wish you luck in remembering!

Nice! I’m sure many great times were had. Were they all with the same group or different groups over time?

I ran an adventure where the PCs awoke tied up and hooded in the hold of a ship at sea. The hold is suffused with deeper darkness. They are all suffering from amnesia. They know their first names and their skills etc, but not their history. As they make their way to the deck , they discover that they are alone . No ships crew are aboard and a storm is raging. In the distance there is an island they might be able to get to if they can navigate the ship through the sharp spires of rock between them and the island.

@@RealWorldGames oooo good start to a campaign, quest kind of becomes discovering who they are and how they all got on the ship. Though it would be something you would probably have to explain in session zero as some players really have a set idea of their character’s backstory and such. But I like it, hope your players had an amazing time with it
