Forced Evictions on East Bank Demerara Reveal Government Neglect, Say Residents

The brutal eviction of resident at Sarah Johanna squatting area, East Bank Demerara, continues to reverberate nationally. Residents, some of whom had lived there for over a decade, were shocked when a group of masked men arrived suddenly to demolish their homes. Despite having receipts for house lots paid to the government, no explanation was given for the forced evictions, and the chaotic scene involved police participation and alleged theft.
