This video wasn't made for people to get into a debate about what is a swear word and what isn't. You may not think of most of these words as swear words but does that matter? I have been a massive fan of Sharpe since i was little and thought it would be funny to put all the bits of him swearing (what I consider swearing -as in words i would not use in front of a client or customer etc) I am totally overwhelmed with how many views and likes this video has got but please, for my sanity stop asking what is a swear word.
I don't think there is another human that can say 'twat' quite that way. I am literally in tears, (from laughter) after the 7:33 rant. This is amazing, thank you for the great work!!!
well, seeing as Sharpe came from Wapping, London, (b.1777) originally, and served in the ranks aged 16, it stands to reason that he'd be a typical British soldier of the day:rough, rugged, raw and BLOODY tough!
when i feel depressed I watch this and it has me in stitches every time.At least it makes one laugh, unlike the fxxx and sxxx words used in every day conversation nowadays "Bloody is a derivation of an ancient oath " By our Lady" And amore unpleasant one was "cor blimey" was" God blind me"
At least he doesn't say fuck over and over like so many historical shows do. I hate that about them especially when they are set around this time or back in the middle ages.
I looked up the etymology of that word. Apparently it goes back to 1475 but may be older. It's said to be of German origin so I imagine it could have arrived with the Anglo-Saxon invasion of England
John Ashtone Sticking two fingers up is a historical dropped bollock, as there is no record of that gesture being used as an insult before the 1860's or so, despite the false urban myth of it dating from the Battle of Agincourt.
No. It wasnt common to cut those two fingers off at all. There is absoulutely no evidence to say it happened and to say 'just beacus theres no evidence doesn't mean it didn't happen' shows a massive lack of understanding. Theres no evidence they had Tanks back then, but by your logic they did.
Wow! Hilarious! I didn't watch this show when it first aired. Watching on britbox! This is an excellent show!" I never watched war SHOWS til my i married my husband. I been missing great stuff! Lol. Saw him in the Ronin with Robert D years ago my first experience seeing the actor. Great Actor! Thanks for recaps..lol
I was wondering how any Sharpe profanity video could not include the legendary barrage from Waterloo...... then I slapped myself for not realizing that, of course, it deserves to be saved for the last 😆
That are a hell of a lot damned bloody bugger-shitty bastards.... And with that epic insult at the end, this is the best Sharpe compilation so far, if ye ask me... xD
My mom has always had a fancy for a bit of Bean. She loves the way he says "bloody", and " bastard". I have this alternate vision of me, my brother, mom and dad, sat down watching that early 90's BBC (?) adaptation of Lady Chatterely. Both myself and my brother are a little socially uncomfortable (as young teenagers), because we know what's afoot. My dad seems slightly bored and his thoughts are elsewhere. My mother, on the other hand, is sat bolt upright in her seat... the anticipation. Then suddenly, there is a moment. A moment where my mom can't control herself any longer, and the screams out, "c'mon, you bloody bastard, just stick it in my damned arse, yer bloody twat!" Okaayyyyyyyyy! Actual history played a slightly different hand on that night. But years later, I have often contemplated the attraction of "The Bean". He seems to be a thing amongst moms of a certain age. Who am I to frown upon the dark desires of my mom? All power too her. :)
Well, there's "bloody" in there, so I thought it would count :) Anyhow, I was mistaken, it is not the _very_ first one - the very first one you did put, and it's his kind invitation for the soldiers to get up :D
BalfourofShaws i suppose it is, its just the way he says it makes you skip to the bog trotter bit which in this day and age is far more unacceptable but in sharpe's day well lets just say im suprised sharpe's the only one to use it :)
If I ever met Sean Bean which I must say I admire and rate him as an actor, the two quotes I would get him to say: ME: "Sean could you call me a bastard?" SEAN: "You Bastard!" ME: "Could you also say Winter Is Coming?" SEAN: "Winter Is Coming!" ME "Thanks nice to have met you bye" Walks off with a grin like a Cheshire cat and mumbles to self - "Life is complete" :)
On the other hand, his unfortunate habit of dying only reinforces his awsomeness in this series: Richard Sharpe, a man so badass, that not even being played by Sean Bean could kill him!
Its a tv show, but every episode is a movie to its fans.Adapted from the books of Bernard Cornwell and a must for period warfare fiction with a strong vein of historical fact running through it.
Nothing like a Sean Bean swearing montage to cheer you up after watching a Sean Bean death montage.
If you adore Sean Bean, watching Sharpe is the best because he doesn't die after five minutes of screen time 😂
Saying bastard 3 times a minute in any weather. That's soldiering.

I appreciate the upload :)
Sharp is brilliant, and this is a great video :D
*****
"They're all a bunch of bastards!" ~ Sharpe
pinkhel Don't give idiots validation by replying to them, they deserve to be confused and stupid.
+pinkhel
Easy - All of it is swearing - It was seriously bad language at that particular time in history!
No need to go insane ;-)
I grew up in Yorkshire but now live in the US so loved this as it reminds me of how great the Yorkshire accent is for insults.
Happy Yorkshire Day. You bastards.
This still funnier than it should be 😂
I don't think there is another human that can say 'twat' quite that way. I am literally in tears, (from laughter) after the 7:33 rant. This is amazing, thank you for the great work!!!
So nice to hear people are enjoying it :) Thanks
1:31 Double #BASTARD is my favourite. 😂
ahh this is Ned Stark during Robert's Rebellion
Sharpe when literally anyone does anything in his presence:
"Bahstehd..."
well, seeing as Sharpe came from Wapping, London, (b.1777) originally, and served in the ranks aged 16, it stands to reason that he'd be a typical British soldier of the day:rough, rugged, raw and BLOODY tough!
The compilation I never knew I needed
"What yer waitin' for? Cavalry? I've shit 'em!"
i start a sharpe marathon online tomorrow i'm here to get into the right frame of mind
Bloody sulderin
Huzza! old boy........Now that's soldiering!
This is probably the finest video on UA-cam
OMG, a nearly literal F bomb at the end! I grinned my way through this whole bloody thing, right up until I was LOL at the end.
To quote Harper in Sharpe's Waterloo: "Dear o dear o dear :/"
I like the part where he said "bastard".
jon snow would've had a hard life with this version of ned stark
nobody says Bastard like a Yorkshire man 😂😂
Now that's swearing!
After all this, the word bastard doesn’t sound like a normal word 😂
God's save yorkshire! :')
England!!!
+a stupid genius Ireland
Fuck Ireland
Did he say 'crow-flogging bastard'? He really was the best choice to play Jon's father!
That was WONDERFUL! Love Sean Bean, great bloke!
2 months well spent, never laughed so much for ages, cheers for posting.
That was brilliant. Thanks for making it. :-)
Saved the best to last lol. Richard sharpe the greatest man that never lived.
I love the way Sean Bean says bastard...It's like verbal art.
He had a Sharpe tongue
I like the part when he said bastard
Basteds
0:44 When Jon Snow is resurrected by Melisandre
0:47 When you march on Ramsay Bolton at Winterfell
1:30 When Joffrey reneges on sparing Ned Stark
I'd love to have this as a ringtone
One does not simply say bastard in every scene.
Quick everyone drink whenever he swears!
7:21 brilliant 🤣😂🤣
when i feel depressed I watch this and it has me in stitches every time.At least it makes one laugh, unlike the fxxx and sxxx words used in every day conversation nowadays "Bloody is a derivation of an ancient oath " By our Lady" And amore unpleasant one was "cor blimey" was" God blind me"
SAME HERE
OMG I love him even when he is swearing
Saved the best for last, I see
Every time Ned has a one on one with Jon Snow.
Have to say my favourite line was 'what you waiting for? Cavalry? I've sh.t them!'
I think he means Joffrey
Meyrunes Daegon, the demon Prince of Bastards.
At least he doesn't say fuck over and over like so many historical shows do. I hate that about them especially when they are set around this time or back in the middle ages.

He swore 156 times in this video lol
My favorite bastard he says is still "we'll get that bastard yet"
I love this...brilliant and gritty stuff.
Probably the easiest set of scripts he ever had to learn XD
Not even close. Cus it was the only script he ever had to read to the end
Peak Yorkshire.

Wow eddard has changed a lot since Robert's rebellion.
Sharpe would be crowned king if he existed in westeros. Probably mow down all the Lannisters with his Baker Rifle
+Censor Duck We need to make that happen! I dunno how, but it has to happen!
I'm born out of wedlock so this is funny for me lol
"Cavalry? I shit 'em..."
I havent laughed like this for years.. great work! The end is a rib tickler
I was wondering how any Sharpe profanity video could not include the legendary barrage from Waterloo...... then I slapped myself for not realizing that, of course, it deserves to be saved for the last 😆
That's why he doesn't die in this. He has to keep on swearing to keep his characters alive.
If he'd just had pointed out Joffrey was a bastard to everyone, it would have been enough to top it off and keep him alive.
"Oi, bastards. That bastard Joffrey is a bloody bastard, ye bastards."
Well done editing this. Must have taken days. Its so good!!!
I commented on a video asking for this. And here it was, the whole time.
That are a hell of a lot damned bloody bugger-shitty bastards.... And with that epic insult at the end, this is the best Sharpe compilation so far, if ye ask me... xD
Lol, thanks.
What are you bloody waiting for? No wonder I love him when he swears

"He's nowt but a silk stocking full of shit.. "
Whichever bastid wrote that I'd let him buy me a pint...
And then he had Jon Snow.
Preserve what a bastard
👐Ol'Dirty👐
I donated the entire Sharps Rifles series to my local library but some " Bloody Bastard" employee stole them before they even got on the shelves.
This is amazing, thank you!
"THIS WATER IS FUCKING RAW!"
Whoops sorry, wrong thing.
What about the very first one, the one he says to Harper the first time they meet: "You bloody bog-trotter, can't you see I'm an officer?"
thats not swearing, its rude and racist but not swearing :)
Well, there's "bloody" in there, so I thought it would count :) Anyhow, I was mistaken, it is not the _very_ first one - the very first one you did put, and it's his kind invitation for the soldiers to get up :D

I had problems with some of them due to sound. There are about 5 or 6 that aren't in there.
Only a Sheffielder can say bastard and mean it (: From Rachel ov Sheffield (:
Last 4 seconds of the vid are best. LMAO.
Stand by ya bastard
personal fav
A good cuss is healthy.
Happy Birthday Sean!
Sharpe should have had a dam lot more to say for swearing had the television allowed.
this might just be the best thing on the internet
1:19
"AAARGH! AAARGH!"
"Bastid!"
Sean 'Sharpe The Bastid' Bean
Damn guys, Jon Snow isn't actually a bastard
Ned Stark's bastid
Bloody hell that's a lot of swearing.
"He's crafty little baaastard" hahaha
I'll chop the hands off the next man who calls me ''BASTARD'' (Craster, Game of Thrones)
what can be better than watching Sean Bean swearing and being all pissed off! made my weekend
If I ever met Sean Bean which I must say I admire and rate him as an actor, the two quotes I would get him to say:

I'm experiencing a total Gestaltzerfall for the word "bastard"
