- Tired of spending lots of money on commercial CA Accelerators, well spend no more. Now you can make your own that's almost as good :)
Speed up your work time with superglue, without the powdered residue left behind by baking soda, save money on making your own CA accelerator from household products by following the simple steps presented in the video. - Ігри
I never realised that accelerator was that easy to make 😱
Yeah, once I realised it was a chemical reaction that had bi-carb soda, and it not just "drying" the glue it was a light bulb moment💡
125 ml is not a quarter of a cup; it’s slightly over a half a cup.
The only thing is, sodium bicarbonate is not soluble in pure isopropyl alcohol. I assume you're using typical rubbing isopropyl alcohol which is 70 IPA and 30% water. But they also sell it as 91%.
Great tip thanks!!
Thanks for sharing. Cheers
The glue is called Supa Glue? That's brilliant. I wanted to use ISO for mine but opted for water. ISO is the perfect Acrylic paint remover and what I use for my kits. I want to be able to use this kicker on completed model kits if needed.
Many thanks. 👍🇬🇧😷
Nice one mate👍🏼👍🏼
fantastic hack, ty so much for that......subbed
Hi Darrell, glad I could be of service.
@@HungryDropBearGaming Saw your reply come through last night, just as I had gotten home from Hobby Lobby and picked up 4 more bottles of CA glue, but guess what I did NOT buy this time, ACCELERANT, LOL.........Tks again buddy, saved me $8.99
I did a comparison zip kicker verses 70% alcohol mixed with different ratios of baking soda. Very disappointed with results. As I increased the baking soda would clog the spray head. Poor performance with diy mixture compared with the zip kicker, as for drying time. Would a 91% alcohol make a difference? Any guidance appreciated. Thank you and all the best from New Rochelle N.Y.
In the old days of making RC airplanes,, I seem to remember water mixed with bicarbonate of soda!!
It's the same idea, the alcohol just evaporates quicker than water so it works a bit quicker.
whoa thnx . stuff i already have . store bought accelerator stinks . keep away from flames lol
Hi
I made this solution but it didn't work out very well because the baking soda doesn't dissolve well. When I tested the accelerator it didn't work. Did I do something wrong?
Thanks
Probably not, but I'd expect something from even just the IPA by itself reacting with the superglue. I have seen some issues with gel and medium viscosity glues forming a skin and then not drying because of that.
@@HungryDropBearGaming IPA?
@@nelsonsantos4721 isopropyl alcohol
@@HungryDropBearGaming OK. Thanks
So does playing around with the amount of baking soda change much?
I hadn't noticed a difference with more in my use beyond adding more baking soda helps in filling gaps, and clogging the spray head up.
@@HungryDropBearGaming so I shouldn't try beyond saturation then
Ok ill make q batch later today
@@HungryDropBearGaming ok i went the lazy way
I just added a good amount of baking soda to the IPA
Gave it a good shake and then siphoned the solution into the spray bottle leaving the excess baking soda in the first container
It works very nicely
I tried with ethyl alcohol and it did not work, so it looks like it has to be isopropyl alcahol.
If your looking for something other than isopropyl, I don't have an answer off the top of my head. Google the pH value of anything you want to try, the value will need to be around 8 if you want it to neutralize the acid the CA is suspended in and not risking damaging what your gluing.
Can you use baking powder?
Baking powder has an acid included so I don't know. I don't believe it will work as well as baking soda.
Cool, would ethanol also work?
I'm not sure, it's pH is slightly lower than isopropyl but still a base. It would be worth trying.
@@HungryDropBearGaming thanks!!
Does nail Polish remover work as an accelerator
I've never tried it, but acetone has a pH of 7 so with my basic understanding of science I don't believe it would neutralize the acid the CA is suspended in. Other additives to the nail polish remover may change the pH and allow it to work, but that would change by brand.
@@HungryDropBearGaming Acetone will soften superglue.
Thanks for letting me know.
Thanks for your kind reply
Oh god why would you use that Army painter stuff that sprays all over the place instead of just where you want it? lol
I take the top off the bottle and use the end of the plastic tube to place it where I want it. Plus it was the only stuff I could find.
Do you know if this works with gorilla glue? I have a new hairstyle I want to try. Ha! Thank you for the great video and sharing your knowledge!
Unfortunately I don't have easy access to Gorilla Glue so I haven't had a chance to try.
🤦🏻♂️
Might need to get some ipa, did not work with metho.
Thats good to know, thanks. It surprises me, metho is basic like IPA. I'm guessing that it's one of the additives.
@@HungryDropBearGaming I tried with isocol today, green bottle with the croc, and bicarb, and all it does is form a skin, doesn't set like the army painter stuff does.
Using their super glue as well.
It's odd seems to even remove the adhesive properties of the glue. Wonder what's wrong with what I am doing. Adding more bicarb just clogs the sprayer
This has me a little stumped as well, I used Isocol in the video, and I'm still using it on terrain and It's working fine for me. I am however using the $1.60 for 6 superglue from Bunnings, It is possible that with different brands of glue having different additives it may change the way the glue and Accelerator react to each other.
I've had the same issues you're having when using the Army Painter Accelerator with cheaper glue unless I was being incredibly sparing with both products.
@@HungryDropBearGaming i might need to grab some cheap glues and have a crack.
Thank you, fed up with paying for those expensive aerosol accelerators this sounds just the job .
which are probably THIS anyway!
@@texasfossilguy spot on .
Is it 1/4 cup or 125 ml….. not the same thing
looks like he used 1/2 a cup - so 125ml
Fantastic 🤣🙏🤽👌👍🏃⛹️🏃🚴🤣🏋️
What kind of Alcohol Used and what is the%
Isopropyl alcohol, 60% is what is used in the video, one of the joys of making the video duringearly COVID. 80% to 100% works better.
@@HungryDropBearGaming I think it's important to mention the alcohol %, I for example have IPA 98% and noticed the soda doesn't dissolve well. From a different source I heard they use IPA 70% so there might be some correlation, I'll try to add some distilled water (30% water - 70% IPA + soda mix) hoping it will fix the issue.
@@exorbis9880 Did it fix the issue? My soda doesn't dissolve either
I guess I don't know what an accelerator is... so it's not glue? I didn't know super glue needed an accelerator..
Only if you want the best, fastest bond.
@@Trashed20659 okay dang I guess I need to try this stuff I work with superglue everyday.
125 ml = 1/2 cup
Not a 1/4 cup.
Found this video just as everyone decided to buy isopropyl alcohol to make their own hand sanitizer. 😒
